It's actually crazy talking to friends and relatives about what's going on because very few of them know that this is a retaliatory attack. I keep seeing people online call the attack unprovoked too.

So those who don't know, on April 1st Israeli warplanes bombed Iran's consulate in Damascus. The attack killed 7 of Iran’s military advisers including 3 senior commanders.

Reuters reporters at the site in the Mezzeh district of Damascus saw emergency workers clambering atop rubble of a destroyed building inside the diplomatic compound, adjacent to the main Iranian embassy building. Emergency vehicles were parked outside. An Iranian flag hung from a pole by the debris.

Iran's ambassador to Syria said the strike hit a consular building in the embassy compound and that his residence was on the top two floors. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement that seven Iranian military advisers died in the strike including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in its Quds Force, which is an elite foreign espionage and paramilitary arm.

This attack on the embassy is against international law. Embassies are protected sites. But instead of condemning the attack and putting pressure on Israel, the US has spent the past week and a half calling West Asian countries to put pressure on Iran, with Biden going as far as to warn Iran not to attack Israel and saying that his support for Israel is 'iron clad'.

The West, the UN, and UN Security Council have largely failed to condemn the attack which means Iran has no choice but to retaliate with force in order to prevent future attacks. Otherwise, the country will look vulnerable and weak, especially to the Israeli occupation government which has spent months bombing neighbouring countries like Syria and Lebanon

For those who don't know, Rafah Crossing is closed. Meaning Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are technically not allowed to go into Egypt through Rafah Crossing (with exceptions, like holding a foreign passport) so in order to evacuate, Palestinians need to bribe Egyptian border security officials. The standard price used to be about $5000 - 7000 per person but some Palestinians have been told to pay $10,000 per person just to cross the border, forget other expenses like food and boarding.

For a group of people who are enduring genocide and the complete destruction of their homes that money is impossible to raise without the help of fundraising. That and the collapse of the UNRWA is the reason you're seeing so many Gofundmes nowadays. The entire aid system is gone with the exception of local aid organisations that have limited reach.

So if you see a credible fundraiser, please at the very least share it so it can reach more people. This list by @el-shab-hussein is a good place to start.

SxF is very explicit about the horrors that come with growing up during a war. Loid/Twilight’s main motivation for anything is to create a world where children don’t have to cry. At the time I’m writing this, Israel has killed 33K+ Palestinians in the Gaza Strip (over 13,000 of them children and leaving 25K+ children orphaned) since 10/7/2023. Israel is also deliberately starving 1.5 million Palestinians (800K+ of them children) by intentionally blocking and delaying humanitarian convoys from delivering adequate aid, and all residents of the Gaza Strip, adults and children alike, are experiencing irreversible trauma that will last the rest of their lives.

Even after the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel is plausibly committing genocide and the United Nations called for a ceasefire, Israel has shown no signs of stopping. There is an urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

If you, in good faith, feel like you don’t know enough to make a strong statement in support of Palestine, I’m happy to engage with you here and provide you with more information.

If you would like to help efforts for a ceasefire, I urge you to write or call your representatives or donate to families and organizations directly helping Palestinians in Gaza.

I have a nebulous idea for a sxf teacher au and I’m not sure if I’ll actually get around to writing it where Loid is a math teacher (not particularly good either) solely bc he didn’t have any direction in college and math always made him cry so he doesn’t want to make any other kids cry bc of math to mixed results and his roommate (Franky) switched from engineering to education bc he got burnt out (that’s his official excuse the real reason is that there weren’t enough girls in engineering)

Yor is a gym teacher in this verse, franky is the shop teacher and they run a cat appreciation club together.

Henderson is the school librarian that substitutes for everyone (this is supposed to be his retirement but he loves the school so much that he can’t stay away), handler is the principle, Fiona is admin assistant etc

Franky and Loid did bang once in college bc franky was whining abt graduating a virgin and Loid was like ok fine if this will get you to shut up. When Yor finds out abt it she’s super weird but not in a homophobic way more of a I didn’t realize you were still in love way, comical misunderstandings ensue

I think less trauma Loid would definitely be the type that treats everyone with polite niceness but holds ppl at a distance and I think it could be a fun character study
