Egalitarianism is for people who think the past has no bearing on the present, who can’t fathom why social justice movements might be more focused on one subset of people than another, and who get their feelings hurt at the implication that they might have some kind of privilege. It’s for people who think we live in a socio-cultural vacuum.
To put differently, it’s the perfect word for anti-woman, homophobic, transphobic racists to latch onto while pretending to be progressive.

For readers interested in learning more about how not to be labeled as registered sex offenders, a good first step is not to rape unconscious women, no matter how good your grades are. Regardless of the strength of your GPA (weighted or unweighted), if you commit rape, there is a possibility you may someday be convicted of a sex crime. This is because of your decision to commit a sex crime instead of going for a walk, or reading a book by Cormac McCarthy. Your ability to perform calculus or play football is generally not taken into consideration in a court of law. Should you prefer to be known as ‘Good student and excellent football player Trent Mays’ rather than ‘Convicted sex offender Trent Mays,’ try stressing the studying and tackling and giving the sex crimes a miss altogether… Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richardson are not the “stars” of the Steubenville rape trial. They aren’t the only characters in a drama playing out in eastern Ohio. And yet a CNN viewer learning about the Steubenville rape verdict is presented with dynamic, sympathetic, complicated male figures, and a nonentity of an anonymous victim, the ‘lasting effects’ of whose graphic, public sexual assault are ignored. Small wonder, then, that anyone would find themselves on the side of these men—these poor young men, who were very good at taking tests and playing sports when they were not raping their classmates.
Mallory Ortberg of Gawker, critiquing CNN’s disgusting response to the Stuebenville rape trial verdicts.
Her commentary is spot on.

In a colorblind society, White people, who are unlikely to experience disadvantages due to race, can effectively ignore racism in American life, justify the current social order, and feel more comfortable with their relatively privileged standing in society (Fryberg, 2010). Most minorities, however, who regularly encounter difficulties due to race, experience colorblind ideologies quite differently. Colorblindness creates a society that denies their negative racial experiences, rejects their cultural heritage, and invalidates their unique perspectives.

I love you.
k dude so legit
i get this whole fucking “straight people aren’t queer” shit because it’s really fucking shitty when they like waltz into queer spaces and are like “I DEMAND SPACE OVER OTHER HUMANS AND FUCK ALL OF YOU F*GS”
but like
can we stop fucking erasing MSM or WSW who identify as straight as not queer if they identify that way?
or hey could we stop fucking erasing asexual straight people?
or hey what about people like my fucking girlfriend who identifies as straight despite the fact that we’re together in an asexual relationship that is just as fucking real as any other “queer” one?

I can respect what you're saying, and even understand the logic. But you're denying apart of my identity and that is not okay. I am not queer because it's cool or because my friends are queer. I am queer because this is who I am. Yes, I am cis and identify as hetero but it doesn't make me necessarily hetero. In fact, I am still trying to determine if this is how I identify. I am not demanding space in a queer space necessarily. What I am asking for is understanding and respect. I don't want my identity to be invalidated because of my cis/het privilege. I recognize it is a barrier to understanding completely certain people's experiences but it should not be a barrier to my own identity.  I have a question about how you interpret my relationship with Jacq ... how do you interpret it?
I suppose I may sound like an uber bitch on days like today where I stand on my tiny tumblr soap box and rant about excluding people from certain ways of life, vernacular, identifiers and communities, but I fucking stand by it.
If you are straight, the queer community is not. for. you. I don’t care how much you like social justice. I don’t care how many queer friends you have. I don’t care if you’re ‘straight but not narrow’. I don’t care how many gay clubs you’ve been to. I don’t even care if you were at the National Equality March. I really don’t. Like, thanks for your assistance in equality or whatever….but you’re still not “basically almost queer lol”. You do not get to use words used in specifically queer contexts to make yourself feel all special and alternative. Queer histories and experiences are not here for you to earn some more radi-kewl points with. Gtfo.

I like when Jacq supports me/loves me/eats food with me/goes on hikes with me (never actually happens)/skypes with me/laughs with me. The list could go on and on.
Thank you for your words.  I am a cis female who has two partners. My primary partner is a cis male, and my other (not secondary partner) identifies as bigender and lesbian. I think that's pretty queer, no? I don't invalidate your experiences, so I hope you all can respect (and understand) mine.
