#LisaHemeon is a Toronto-based artist known for her abstracted #waterscapes that feature glorious movement and unexpected colour. Hemeon’s work is marked by the rich layering of mediums which culminate in gestural waves punctuated by spontaneous drips and pops of colour. A theme of ‘undulation’ runs through each painting, as Hemeon works to represent the ebb and flow of our subconscious energy. The artist achieves this through applying multiple layers of emulsions, glazes and mediums. Hemeon feels that using this complex and laborious technique grants her the freedom to express herself, and in the process, she accesses deep memories and feelings. Viewers of the work tend to feel the same quiet energy radiating from each painting. Growing up in coastal British Columbia deeply connected Hemeon to the atmosphere of rippling waves and tides, of which she now draws energy to create paintings in her Toronto studio. Hemeon has exhibited her work in Toronto since 2002 and has been included in many private collections.

Don't get me wrong, these are sacrifices that any die-hard golf fan would gladly endure if it came with a guaranteed glimpse of Amen Corner.

Behind The Scenes Of Christie's $500 Million Rockefeller Art Auction

On May 8, 9 and 10, Christie’s auction house will hold what they are calling “the most anticipated art world event of the spring season,” a three-day auction of the collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller. Including original works from Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keefe, Diego Rivera and more, the auction, benefiting 15 philanthropic organizations supported  by the Rockefeller family, is expected to bring in over $500 million. The Picasso, Fillette a la corbeille fleurie, is expected to fetch $90 to 120 million by itself, Christie’s Chairman of the Americas, Marc Porter, told Monica Molinaro and I during a private tour of the Beverly Hills exhibit currently open to the public until April 12.

Kyro Distillery As Featured In Our April Issue Of London Lux

Isokyrö is a mystical place. A tiny municipality tucked away in the Ostrobothnia region of western Finland with an eventful and bloody history. Archaeologists discovered over a hundred ancient skeletons dating back to the iron age in the local Leväluhta well, where the water still runs red every spring, and the memorial of the famous 1714 battle of Napue can be found just along the Kyrö river. Isokyrö is a place where both people and spirits come with character. The story of the Kyrö distillery began quite some time after the iron age, in 2012, when five friends decided to go to the sauna, taking with them, a healthy amount of rye whiskey. As both ideas and drinks continued to flow, they ended up wondering why nobody was making rye whisky in Finland. After all, Finns consume six times more rye than the world average and rye bread was even named as the official national dish! So from that fateful sauna session came the idea to build an all-rye distillery in the most peculiar of locations: in the most famous cheese factory in Finland. After being closed down for five years, it was ready to be refurbished, and in 2014, the distillery finally roared to life. Since then, the Kyrö Distillery family has grown exponentially and their unique rye spirits are now enjoyed across the globe, from Tokyo to Berlin to London. Rye is a truly Finnish ingredient, being integral to much of their cooking and brewing processes. As soon as the idea of founding a distillery began to form, it was clear to everyone involved that they would only be using rye. Rye is the most demanding grain to distill, especially in the world’s northernmost gin and whisky distillery. Kyrö makes sure to only use Finnish wholegrain rye, as it grows up north with a lot of sunlight and mild temperatures, giving it a distinctly intense edge. The Finnish summer only lasts from June to August, but in this time there is nearly a full day of light (In Lapland, from June to July, the sun never sets.), meaning that the grain is smaller but bursting with flavour. As well as using the incredible flavours from the rye, Kyrö adds in local wild botanicals like wildflowers, sea buckthorn, cranberries and birch leaves – all of them hand-picked from the old Napue battleground.

A New Luxury Hotel Is Opening...In Space

Guests will get to experience zero gravity for nearly two weeks. When a new luxury hotel opens, there might be some “oohs” and “ahhhs” around details like the roof deck infinity pool or bath butler. A few months later, the excitement dies. But there was one high-end hotel announcement made today that is sure to keep people buzzing. Yes, it has things you’d expect from accommodations like the Four Seasons: comfortable bedding, incredible views, onsite excursions, and a garden. So, what makes it unique? Well, the property is located in space. Developed by the Orion Span company, Aurora Station was introduced today marking the debut of the first fully modular space station and luxury space hotel. Six people can stay at a time, including two crew members, for a 12-day journey where they will live like real astronauts.

Hundreds line Cambridge streets to honor Stephen Hawking

The life of renowned physicist and author Stephen Hawking was celebrated Saturday in English city of Cambridge, with hundreds of well-wishers lining the streets for a glimpse of the hearse carrying his remains to a private funeral. There was a spontaneous burst of applause outside St. Mary the Great church when the hearse arrived. The bells of the church tolled 76 times, one for each year of Hawking's remarkable life. Hawking was remembered as a brave man who triumphed over motor neurone disease by continuing his research into space and time even after paralysis set in and his muscles faded. Stephen Hawking dies at age 76 June 6, 1988: Stephen Hawking on 'A Brief History of Time' Some 500 invited guests attended the funeral for Hawking, who died on March 14.
