Bringing to Court
The Brown family brought their case to the lower courts believing that the denying of their child's ability to attend a summer school based on race alone was a violation of their rights.
The State court concluded that because the schools were in compliance with Plessy V Ferguson (I.e having equal but separate respect for things such as transportation and buildings) they could not claim that it was in violation.
Thus, the family brought the case to the Supreme Court and asked them to review their case in hopes that they would be heard. The Supreme Court agreed and built upon the Browns case with several other trials that commenced in difference states.
These cases included: Plessy V Ferguson (1896) and Sweatt v Painter (1950).

What Is Brown V Board
Tumblr media
Brown V Board of education is a landmark Supreme Court case that took place in 1950s during the Civil Rights movement. The case originally started out as a little girl and her sister in Topeka, Kansas, attempted to go to a school with a less dangerous route as they used to have to go through railroad tracks to get to their previous school. However the two sisters ran into a problem as the school closest to the girls was considered an All-White school. From this sparked what we know as the case Brown V Board.
