Man Ray

Her artistic point of view saw an effort on simplifying the dress and reducing it to a few essential principles, as the modern woman is always in a hurry and does not need to pay attention to complex fastenings.

“I always wanted to put myself at the service of women. I wanted to accompany them in the great movement for liberation that occurred last century," Ives Saint Laurent

"Nothing is more beautiful than a naked body," Saint Laurent once said. Instrumental in creating the nude look, he made the female chest visible with the innovative use of see-through material called cigaline. One standout example was a fully transparent chiffon dress with a belt made of ostrich feathers that he created in 1968. In this picture, the dress features shimmering zigzag patterns.
"I have been to every country in my dreams," Saint Laurent once said. "All I have to do to blend into a place or a landscape is to read a book, or look at a picture, and then use my imagination."

Fashion through an artist’s lens
Each decade of humanity answers to the most important question of them all, what does it mean to be alive? to be human? fashion answers this question through textiles, colors, dimensions, lenght, through the desire of belonging, empowerment, the uniqueness of a garment. The answer is always in the detail. We, woman, wear short skirts in the 21th century because we are part of the legacy of the love and freedom revolution that fighted against the war of the mid 20th century. Fashion is born in the experiences, the politics, the social rules, never by the pleats of a skirt or its lenght, never by the meaningless copy of another garment. MN

A museum is a place for participation, not
for evasion or isolation or separation, that
liberates its visitors by engaging with them.
We should endeavour as far as posible to have
the museum play a role in every cultural
activity in the areas in which it operates, not
solely as a place for contemplation
