I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

I have one floating about somewhere, but here's an up-to-date one! :)

Vethna Mevnrael (they/them) Appearance: 5’9, skin the color of bronze with long wavy hair that’s only a few shades darker than their skin. Their eyes are a greyed-out blue-green and glow in the darkness due to magic. They wear a deep v-neck black gown with golden embroidery, an outrageous amount of rings and jewelry, and their signature wine-red lipstick. Background: Vethna hails from Vygrand-- otherwise known as the sworn rival land of your home country. Where you have been raised to resent most, if not all magic, they have been raised to thrive on it. You don't know much about them-- just that they're on the run from someone, something, powerful, and you're the only one who can protect them. That, and they have a whole lot of gold... almost as much as they have secrets.

Nikke Ivante (he/him) Appearance: 6’0, pale green skin and covered in iridescent scales. Purple bags sit under his pale green eyes, which, like all mythosi, glow in the darkness. Wears smudged black kohl across his eyes. His hair is long, half shaved, and braided, mostly black with streaks of white. His tongue is forked and his sharp fangs often protrude from out past his lips. His arms are covered in tattoos of snakes winding downwards, and on his neck sit geometric tattoos. Background: Nikke has been sent to kill you or kidnap you-- you're not entirely sure which it is, and you don't intend to find out. He's crude and sarcastic and overall a brute. He doesn't seem to take his own life seriously, nonetheless yours, and you have no doubt he's going to capture you or die trying. Hell-- maybe he'll just kill you both while he's at it... you know, for fun.

Jost Ivante (she/her) (Not romanceable in demo yet) Appearance: 6’0 with pale green skin and iridescent scales. Her features are sharp and she has multiple piercings, the most notable being her bridge piercing and snake-bites. She has tattoos down her arms and on her neck in geometric patterns. Her hair is waist-length and slicked back and filled with braids and tokens, and just like her brother, is streaked with white. While she wears dark paint over her eyes, it’s done in a manner much neater than Nikke’s. Background: Jost is Nikke's identical twin sister-- and, if possible, she's twice as mean and just as rude. She's more ruthless than her brother, but she doesn't quite have the fighting power to back up her venom-laced threats and taunts. Nonetheless, she fights dirty, and if you want to beat her, you're going to have to be smart.

Amilia Von Clamile (she/her) Appearance: 5’3 with snow white skin and blood red hair that’s poorly cut and uneven, coming to her chin on one shoulder and sitting well past her collarbone on the other. Her eyes are green and her face is covered in freckles. A deep scar juts into her lip on the right side of her face and runs down her jaw and neck. Background: Amilia's a fae-- the very kind of mythosi you've been raised to fear and have spent most of your life killing. She's all smiles and nerves, but you see something else in her eyes, sometimes. Something cold. Something calculative. Everyone seems keen to turn a blind eye to her, but you know a liar when you see one... don't you?

Syfyn Javall (she/her) Appearance: 5’11 with warm toned skin that’s often burnt red, leaving splotchy tans along her body. Her eyes are a steely grey, hair blonde and cut to barely brush against her shoulders. She tries to often wear it up despite this, resulting in most of the hair falling out messily. She's covered in scars with feathers in her hair, and her pupils are slits. Her teeth are all mostly sharp. Background: Syfyn Javall, The Brazen Griffin, Second-in-Command to the Plaithian Army. She used to work beneath you once-- used to fight beside you and honor you both as a comrade and friend. You grew up together within the military. When you had nobody, you had each other. But then you betrayed her-- or maybe she betrayed you. You don't know who started what, but you do know that the blood is on both of your hands now.

Sabir Du Vaelas (he/him) Appearance: 6’1 with dark, cool toned skin, black eyes, and long black hair kept in locs. He wears expensive robes that are a deep teal and is covered head to toe in expensive silver jewelry, most of which is covered in snake symbolism. Sabir's ears are pierced in several areas, and he tends to wear silver eyeliner and highlight. Background: Sabir, otherwise known as The Silven Viper, Eye of Plaithus, used to be your charge. He's a politician-- one of the better ones, if such a thing exists. Your past together was volatile-- perhaps you were lovers, or friends, or enemies. Either way, he saved your life when you otherwise would've been put to death by the state, and you owe him thanks for that much.

Freedom (gender selectable) Appearance: 6′0 with pallid, paper-white skin and bronze eyes that appear to almost be filled with a shimmering liquid. Their hair is waist-length and black with an iridescent sheen to it, long black claws bordering on talons on their hands. They wear long, tight fitting black robes. Background: You hear its voice sometimes, when it's quiet and you're alone. You try to tune it out. You try to ignore it. It forces you to remember things. To feel things. It's within you, wiggling and writhing, waiting for the right moment to attack. At times it feels predatory. At others, its presence is comforting-- protective and doting. It'll become whatever you want it to be. It'll become whatever you need it to be.

Hello everyone who is a fan of @exilethegame. I have collected most of the blog’s asks and organized them into a list. I posted this in the game’s discord server for a while, and I want to post it here so more people can use it if they want to. Hopefully this can help with finding posts in the blog. I’ll keep the index up-to-date as best as I can.

What's your favorite thing to write about the characters?

Hmm... honestly, everything. I love character building, and a have a whole lil backpack of OCs that I plan to use for future projects and things.

I think the thing I like most about the entire process of writing/creating them is making a full on human being-- like sure, they're fictional, but I do my best to make them feel like realistic people. They have motives, and they have reasons for having those motives, and I always try to make them have as much depth as possible, from their outfits to the things they carry to the way they speak and their nervous habits.

Like when writing Marcelle, I view her as one puzzle piece in a much bigger picture-- where she grew up contributed to her mannerisms, how her parents raised her contributed to her opinions, the friends she had growing up influenced how she trusts, and the events that have happened from when she was born to now in-game have affected her judgement.

Something else I like is just being realistic about perceptions of people. For example, MC is an unreliable narrator. Sometimes, the affinity MC has with a person dictates how I write simple, small sentences-- for example, an MC who's close to Vethna can easily tell when they're being sarcastic/poking fun while an MC who dislikes Vethna will automatically interpret what they say as being personal. Nikke comes off as being annoying and loud and generally as a bad person, but MCs who spend time with him will find out he's anything but-- that he's deathly protective of those he loves and that he would do anything to save his home.

Also also, I love dichotomy and narrative foils (in case you couldn't tell). Vethna + MC have gone through similar experiences while being from completely different places. Jost + Nikke have completely different feelings towards the place they were born-- Nikke holds it close to his heart and feels some sort of obligation to his village while Jost is resentful of the people who live there. Amilia has an internal battle going on that will become more and more apparent the deeper into the book we go, and so does Syfyn. I think the best personal narratives are the ones that have no right answer-- the stories that are about people just doing their best to do what's right, or what feels right, at the very least.

Just the idea of making something from nothing is absolutely fascinating to me, so I do my best to put the utmost care into everyone that I write. I think A.) It makes the general experience of the book more rewarding and B.) It can lead to some personal revelations as a reader and as the author. Characters give room for reflection, and I think that's always a good thing :)

Plus, there comes a point where the characters become their own people in a sense, and from there they dictate where the story goes and what gets said. I don't have to sit and think about who says what, or how the dialogue will go, because the character just... say it. So just from a narrative standpoint, that's very helpful/handy.

heey just curious, what are your favourite lines or interactions in the published demo this far? Just stumbled across the remark Freedom makes in chapter 4 when Vethna teases aggressive commander for flirting with Sabir. it was so unexpected i died laughing

also every like second line from sarcastic mc is a blessing (mad da2 vibes in the best way possible<3<3)

I am incredibly honored that the sarcastic Commander reminds you of da2 considering purple Hawke is what inspired like 80% of their personality lmfao

Favorite Interactions/Scenes

Ch. 4: I absolutely loved writing the scene where Nikke protects Amilia from The Commander if the Commander takes her journal. It wasn't planned, but I realized as I was writing Nikke would absolutely intervene, which has led to an interesting relationship dynamic between Nikke + Amilia

Ch. 4: If you ask Nikke if he's aware that he's outnumbered and have higher affinity with him, he begins to count down the people in the room on his hand until he's left with one-- The Commander-- which he conveniently counts on his middle finger.

Ch. 3: If you go with Amilia and don't tell her about the wykna, you'll have a conversation about the future/what you'll do once you get out of Plaithus. It was just a cute scene that I liked since it's the only time the Commander can think about something domestic.

Ch. 3: If you go with Vethna and are a werewolf, the Commander accidentally breaks the door... which as a scene in general is pretty funny, but the sarcastic route is the best hands down.

Ch. 4: The entire scene with Freedom + Marcelle if you decided to make the deal. It was just... v satisfying, and the intimacy of Freedom asking MC what their desires were was fun to write.

Ch. 3: I loved the entire part where Syfyn + MC meet for the first time in years. T'was a parade of angst. (Get it?)

Ch. 4: If you had feelings for Sabir in the past and were trying to hide them, he confronts you about why you never confessed to him. It's a painful scene, and I remember it tugged my heartstrings a lot since it's one of the few times someone calls MC out on denying themself happiness.

Favorite Lines

A: What are you, twelve? | V: I was going to say three, but alright. (in regards to MC)

MC: Gods fucking-- | F: Gods fucking? Absolutely scandalous. We do no such thing... except for when we do.

MC: How many days has it been? | N: Three days. Or maybe two. Or maybe four. I think I might've messed up one of the days on my little chalk window that I drew because we can't fucking see outside.

V: I might be deserving of some thanks right now. | MC: For what? Now we're both stuck here. | V: Unbelievable. You know what? Maybe I should've just left you. | MC: ... yes, that is literally the exact point of what I am trying to say.

Marcelle: You're behaving like a child. | MC: Strange. You usually liked it when I destroyed things. Or was that only when it was cities and people? | M: I don't like to repeat myself, so I won't-- but any self-respecting adult would know by now that destroying everything around them doesn't make them look any less broken.

Vethna: Cheeky comments and dirty jokes, genuine compliments, staring

Nikke: A difficult task, but he’ll blush if you manage to take him off-guard by doing something. Words/flirtations won’t do anything.

Amilia: Breathing near her-- no, seriously, she blushes really easily. It’s more of a question of what doesn’t make her blush.

Syfyn: Physical proximity, whispering, being gentle

Sabir: Whenever MC lets their guard down or does something intimate but small

???: Thinking of domestic scenarios with MC
