there's something that feels extremely dogwhistly about the whole pitbull hate thing. Like, everytime someone is defending the position that pitbulls are inherently dangerous and shouldn't exist, there's a deep pulsating hatred in their words that sound less like someone arguing about something in good-faith with legitimate concerns about people's safety and more like the way racists talk about black people.

like, let's say that you are correct and pitbulls are, in fact, a dangerous breed that should be gone. Doesn't matter how strongly you feel about this subject, you are still talking about a living being that has absolutely no consciousness about morality or the weight of their actions in any way, shape or form. The arguments are never that pitbulls are dangerous, and more so that pitbulls are EVIL. Whenever there's a case of pitbull violence, a lot of the arguments bring this implicit sense that the dog is *responsible* for what it did and should be morally judged, and punished for it. I don't think anyone who would argue against pitbulls in legitimate good-faith would ever HATE pitbulls, and more so have a neutral and rational perspective that comes from a place of genuinely caring about people's safety, but this is not really the case, is it? In their eyes, there's joy in watching pitbulls die. There's a latent desire of doing basically a holocaust with the entire breed. There's the need to argue that the animal is not only dangerous, but actively cruel and intentfully harmful. There is a unbelievable hatred that is just... not normal.

It doesn't matter how correct you are about the inherent danger in a pitbull's presence, talking about a breed of dogs with the same language and rhetoric that nazis use to talk about black people will always be extremely fucking suspicious.
