●●●●○ | ATTRACTION ●●○○○ | AFFECTION ●●●○○ | INTEREST ●●○○○ | LOYALTY ●●○○○ | TRUST
Attraction: That is a hot man if he ever saw one and he's seen one before. Definitely gets some looks.
Affection: He finds Vicious fun and easy to be around. It's genuinely helpful for Yuri to have him and Kanata around because Yuri has a lot of his old feelings after his condemnation. His personality is mostly dormant for a while, and Vicious is probably the best person to bring it back out. For the most part, he's on the same page as Vicious and agrees with him on a lot of things.
Interest: There's still a lot he doesn't know or understand about Vicious, but seeing someone so chaotic and active spewing half the shit he does does have Yuri's curiosity. The fact that Vicious can give out Blood Sins and that being a power of his but having this attitude does make Yuri want to understand where the power comes from and if Vicious could be someone beneficial to fixing how twisted the world is. Someone chaotic who is learning to have a good heart but has also sees the disgusting habits people have (like the immediate, uncaring condemnation of innocents) makes Yuri hope he'll work out as an ally and not just a temporary fix for Yuri's own problems.
Loyalty: He does have some degree of loyalty to Vicious for giving him a Blood Sin, but his loyalty is low because he doesn't have a real bond with Vicious. It's still shallow and very based on the fact that Yuri didn't really have any other options. At the very least he'd like to know more about Vicious by spending time around him. Vicious has a habit of saving and protecting people and pulling it "it was interesting/fun" card, but Yuri does want to see if there's more to it and more to Vicious.
Trust: It's somewhat low because he doesn't know Vicious enough to truly trust him. He at least trusts Kanata and trusts that Vicious genuinely cares about Kanata, so he doesn't expect Vicious to purposely do anything to get Kanata killed (though he understands from what he's been updated on by the group that Vicious does have a power that could harm everyone that he's still learning to control). He at least trusts that Vicious has the power to actually do harm if he wanted to and sees that generally, he isn't. If he's staying his hand to help Kanata, Yuri presumes there's a reason for that and that there's something worth trusting.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ Flynn is currently blinking over at Yuri with dem big ol' eyes of his.
@mistralxsoul
●●●●●● | ATTRACTION ●●●●● | AFFECTION ●●●●● | INTEREST ●●●●● | LOYALTY ●●●●● | TRUST
Attraction: Yuri wants a sixth dot sneaked in. As we know he is very attracted to Flynn's eyes and has been since he was seven. Loves his hair like he has since he was seven. When Yuri was seven, he woke up one day and choose Flynn (all the other boys noticed...). Yuri is very attracted to his appearance, voice and personality! He's just... very deeply attracted to Flynn. Oftentimes he may be seen being fidgety about it because he has uncontrollable stomach fuzzies.
Affection: By the time they were teenagers his affection was already through the roof. When things got rocky, he still had affection and hope that Flynn was still the same as he always was, even if he couldn't understand what was going on. His affection withstood everything that went on between them though, and even at their worst he was still praising Flynn and trying to keep everyone's opinion of him up. He wants everyone else to also see the best sides of Flynn and nothing else, because he knows Yuri can handle the worst sides privately the same way Flynn can handle him and all Yuri's own worst traits. Yuri also likes to spend as much personal and private time as possible with Flynn, because while he likes being with everyone else with Flynn included, when they're alone, they have their own world to be lost in that nobody else can get into. People can see it, but they can't enter it.
Interest: Even if he literally does not care what the knights are doing, he's always interested in what Flynn is doing. Dumb paperwork, too! He'll be nosy sometimes and look at the work just to complain about it and how dumb it is. Since they share, literally, the same interests, it keeps Yuri's interest in Flynn's activities up because he's curious about someone who shares his values and interests. He's also very interested in seeing what kinds of new things they can do together and he always wants to find something fun to do, since "fun" and "Flynn" don't usually... work.
Loyalty: Yuri would... literally do anything for Flynn. Die or kill for Flynn, and anything in between. Even if he thought Flynn was in the wrong, he would never really lose faith in him. Given that they reached their worst and came out of it even stronger, there's nothing that could really break their bond at this point. They'll have struggles sometimes, but Yuri will always go back to Flynn. Even if they were actively fighting, if something happened in that moment and Flynn was in danger, Yuri would still have his back immediately by instinct and no longer even be processing that they were arguing, no matter how bad it was. Being on Flynn's side is Yuri's first instinct regardless of what goes on between them beforehand.
Trust: He's always trusted Flynn, but post canon verse he has no doubts in his trust. Nothing like in the knights or when Alexei was giving his orders and Yuri had doubts and was unsure what he could trust. Sometimes his trust was shaky, but it was still always there and strong, sort of like a deep intuition that at the end of the day, if Yuri was about to die or even get hurt, Flynn would save him no matter how bad things were between them. He also trusts Flynn with their home as the Commandant, even if he wants more time with Flynn. Early retirement calls!

Attraction: Not his type. Sorry, Lexi.
Affection: To a point, he has affection. Before everything went down Yuri did at least have some hope of respect for Alexei. Flynn also deeply admired him and for a little while, Yuri really hoped the knights would be set straight by him, but he had his doubt because of how crazy everything was and because knights still got away with so much harmful chaos and nonsense. After everything settled in our Alexei survival verse, he at least has appreciation for the fact that Alexei isn't still insistent that he just "did the right thing", but accepts that he did what he thought was right and acknowledging that it wasn't. If Alexei truly wants to atone, Yuri will give him that chance because the people Yuri dealt with before "like" Alexei didn't care to atone. Their upset at being found out was purely selfish, and their only regret was that their life was in danger. Alexei has potential to go up in the affection section, even if it's going to hard to break into on Yuri's end (especially because the betrayal directly affected Flynn and Raven, so it wasn't just a betrayal that he could've been like oh yeah a knight betraying people what a surprise. It deeply hurt people he loves and that plays a huge role in his stubbornness to forgive).
Interest: If Alexei could really be the type of person he used to be again, then Yuri would like to see that. Right now he isn't sure where Alexei will go, or if he'll just wallow in guilt. Both Raven and Flynn seemed to see something in Alexei that Yuri didn't, and he wants to trust their opinions on what Alexei used to be/could be again, but he's skeptical. He accepts Alexei wanting to atone, and he's interested in getting to know the Alexei that people used to know, but the main barrier is that he's interested in a ghost of Alexei that he can't be sure will be revived. He'll give him the chance, but he's not holding out on expectations.
Loyalty: At the moment, none. It's possible he might gain some along the way, but at the moment, he doesn't feel any sense of loyalty toward him.
Trust: It exists, but mainly because he knows Alexei has enough guilt to act on some things. It's low because he isn't entirely sure what he can trust Alexei with, but if people close to him believe Alexei can come back from everything, he'll give him a chance. If we also consider it from a post thread perspective, Alexei did risk himself to save Yuri's life. Trust exists, but Alexei is in the works.

Attraction: Well, he looks okay as Schwann... Yuri guesses. Not really his attraction type though.
Affection: Raven is like an older brother to him, and Yuri has always been the older sibling to his foster brothers, so it's a very different experience to have someone who can support him from the other side. Raven also knows how to have fun and relax, even if he's not always genuine about it, but that's at least helped Yuri figure out when he's being genuine, even if it's not a perfect spot yet. Raven is one of the few people in his life that he'd be absolutely crushed to lose.
Interest: He likes doing things with Raven and hanging out with him. Sometimes their interests don't really align, but for the most and vast part, it's easy to find ways to hang out with him that don't feel forced, and most interaction is natural.
Loyalty: Yuri will always be on Raven's side now that he knows him. Yuri is as protective over Raven as he is with other people he loves. Whether it's relevant to Dahngrest or Zaphias, if Raven needs support in something, he can always call for Yuri for any help he needs.
Trust: As far as general trust and all that betrayal stuff, Yuri fully trusts him. His only trust issue lies more in what Raven might do with himself and that he may still have doubts here and there. Yuri finds it understandable, but he sometimes still side eyes Raven out of habit and concern.

"Do I strike you as someone who can't speak for herself?" / this is from that meme if you want a first real interaction with them lol, but she is totally going to sass him regardless :T
@ednaeflowers
Tumblr media
"No... you strike me as someone who is going to drag me down and get me into your trouble." It was... unfortunate that he had work in this area. Unfortunate that he had to come across this snarky, apparently irritable girl. Normally he would just ignore it, but her remarks seemed to come keeping, including when he was trying to talk things over with another guild. It was the way she talked, and he didn't want to get involved in it.
Actually, he was just about close to heading out for the day and trying again tomorrow. As much as he didn't like to admit when something got on his nerves, he also wasn't sure it was worth putting up with. Between the girl and the actually certainly irritable guild, even for Yuri it was getting to be a bit too much. Quitting the job over it was definitely not his preference either, but dealing with this much longer warranted a much needed break.
Normally Yuri did speak for people to avoid conflict or any sort of tension from occurring, so she wasn't exactly entirely wrong there. In this case though, for once in his damn life, it was more for himself than anyone else. Instead of anyone being on anyone's side here, it was like a three way argument. If he had to defend her for five seconds out of logic, he wasn't wholly against it, but... well, originally he wasn't. He was starting to second guess that.
"Look, this is a guild discussion. I'd rather it not go south thanks to someone I don't even actually know."

Both nearly sighed as Yuri tried to get the situation under control. Even if he was a knight, he was loud in a... dumb(?) way. Most knights were loud, but this guy was a... different kind of loud. It didn't stop the youngest from choking back a laugh at Yuri taking a shot at the man though. Normally he was more rigid near knights, always trying to just please them and get by, but it was quite obvious his older selves didn't take knights' shit like that.
Actually, he was... grateful to see that. Would they remember this when they returned to their times...? Would he remember knowing that when he got older, he wouldn't just try to keep the knights in their haughty moods without getting on their really bad side? Fact was, a knight dealing with anyone from the poor area in town meant automatically being on their bad side... but he was too young to defend himself against the knights if they turned on him for giving them an attitude.
But the two here with him weren't too young. Based on the eldest self's posture and behavior, he wasn't worried about it nor offended just being in the man's presence. If anything happened, they could probably deal with it and not get too hurt. In a way it made him jealous, but... still, very grateful. Grateful that he wouldn't always have to bend to the knights and play nice toward them just to save his own skin.
Most likely, if he had to guess, that was why his middle self still didn't seem too impressed. Their eldest self had more time to get past those things. To improve himself and not feel threatened by knights anymore. Perhaps there was still some sort of feeling of a threat from a knight for him. If he was just now old enough and capable enough to handle a knight, it made sense to see that he was more prickly near them than someone used to that.
Said teen self though was certainly holding back a few remarks. Of course Yuri was the exception. Even if he should ask why later, he wasn't... entirely sure he wanted to know, or that he even truly cared. It made him angry, even in the middle of this weird situation, and... he was really trying not to get too feisty about it in front of his younger self.
At Leblanc's apology he breathed out some of the anger, hoping it wouldn't be too noticeable. Usually he just let Jiri handle the knights and thus hadn't had to on his own, which usually left him unhappily watching whatever the knights were doing but saying nothing. It was almost funny, in a way... watching his older self do exactly what Jiri would have done, even if in a different way. Handling the knight in front of them while he stayed silent and tried to keep his ill feelings under control.
Instead of focusing on the apology though, the younger of the two looked back and forth between the two in conversation. Yuri had said there was a new commandant, but hearing the very whacky orange knight say he'd like to know Yuri, a random commoner in the poorest area of the capitol, was back in town, put a very confused look on the boy's face. "...Why would the commandant of all people want to know a random civilian is back in town?"
Yuri couldn’t hold back the laugh as both younger versions of himself practically took a turn to step in and tear into Leblanc. Judging by how badly he hated the knights back when he was younger, he really couldn’t blame them for their behavior and it made it that much funnier when Leblanc flinched back, almost defensively. Placing a hand on his hip, Yuri shot a cocky grin over to Leblanc. “Well, you heard the kids. Run along now. I’m sure the Commandant isn’t paying you to come and bug me every time I come into town.”
Leblanc was, understandably, caught off guard by all of this as he blinked a few times, even moving to rub gloved hands over his eyes as he glanced over the adult, the teen, the child and then back to the adult. “...Perhaps not. But I FIRMLY believe he would be VERY interested to know why there are currently two of you?! Or… Three?” He looks down to the youngest for a moment, eyes darting back to the adult and then back. Okay, he definitely saw the resemblance. “Explain this madness, Yuri–!!”
Tumblr media
“Alright, alright, just settle down! You're freaking them out and people are gonna start staring.” Yuri quickly waved Leblanc down, trying to stop the man from causing a scene. As much as he would have loved to watch his younger selves dig into Leblanc some more, he decided to put a stop to everything before it got a bit out of hand. “It’s fine, you two. I know he doesn’t seem like it but he’s one of the better ones.”
Leblanc sputtered, shooting a quick glare to Yuri. “PARDON ME?!”
Yuri simply continued. “His captain is a good friend of mine. They’re not the kind of knights that would treat someone with prejudice. Mostly. I seem to be the exception.” Despite the fact that he’s admitting to being targeted by Leblanc, it’s clear that he doesn’t seem to harbor much anger towards the knight. If anything, he seems rather amused.
Then, with a softening grin, he turns fully to both Yuris, moving to pat the teen on the shoulder and to ruffle the youngest’s hair. “I know it’s hard to believe but the knights aren’t so bad anymore. I know you're worried but I'm not going to let anyone hurt you guys. There are still a few useless ones and even fewer bad ones but the new Commandant is working to weed them out. He’s making this place better. Not just for the Noble and Public Quarter, but for the Lower Quarter too.”
Yuri smiles fondly as he assures them, knowing that if they knew, they would likely be more at ease. Maybe even proud. They should be! Yuri couldn’t even imagine how he would feel if he learned that young, grumpy little Flynn Scifo had soared so high into the ranks in such a little time. But he was also a little worried about telling them at the same time. Would there be repercussions if he explained? What questions would follow after? Yuri was never good at this kind of thing.
“Aren’t you going to explain what’s going on?” Leblanc asked as he finally lowered his tone, having probably realized that running around yelling his head off was probably freaking out the kids. “What is this? Surely you haven’t had two younger brothers this entire time!”
“No, though I wish it were that simple. They just kinda… appeared today. I haven’t been with them for too long myself. We were just sending a letter to Rita and investigating the area before you came in shouting like a crazy person.” Yuri crossed his arms, watching as Leblanc grimaced slightly at that.
“...I deeply apologize for that.” Leblanc muttered, directing it more towards the children rather than at Yuri himself. “Well, will you be reporting this to the Commandant as well? I'm sure he'd like to hear that you're back in town and would also like to know about... this situation.”
Yuri’s face immediately falls, looking rather uncertain. “... I dunno about that one…”

🏝️ It was funny on discord
@altosk
At first Yuri was just going to leave it alone. Raven had taken the hammock with moans and whines about sleeping on a mat on the ground. They had stopped at an old rundown campground, only the two of them running back for backup supplies when the group had realized they'd forgotten to grab things at the store before leaving town. Thankfully the others knew they might be a while because of the distance, which wasn't... too bad, but it was long enough to need to rest, and they couldn't risk continuing on without the supplies.
On the way back was when they decided to stop for the night. They could have taken the time to stay at an inn, but they had hoped to at least close the gap in distance and be closer to everyone else by morning. Their sleep wasn't likely to be that great here, but nobody would stop them from resting once they caught up. It was also difficult to put everything on hold to rest at an inn while they knew the others needed supplies.
Unfortunately it seemed Raven wasn't insistent on taking this all that seriously. To a point he was as far as retrieving necessities went, but once he was in the hammock it was all moaning and groaning and stupid swinging. How the inn would've been a better choice, how there wasn't enough space to stretch his legs properly, how this was better than a mat but he could fall off in his sleep, how it was getting cold out... and then he asked Yuri to join him in the hammock to keep this poor old man warm.
Tumblr media
Before he got up, Yuri just blinked at him. Stopped and stared like Raven was an idiot. Raven stared back with a blankly curious expression, as if seeing what Yuri would do. Why didn't Yuri just come out here with Karol or Judith again...? In the first place, if there wasn't enough space for one of them, there wouldn't be enough for two, but Raven just seemed so curious to see what Yuri's reaction would be. So he got up.
And flipped the hammock over with Raven still in it. And did not take it for himself. And returned to his place on the mat on the ground. "All that time you're spending whining could be used to sleep it off or at least make an attempt to." At least Raven's brief terrified reaction as he was flipped over unexpectedly was worth getting up for. "If you keep whining I'm using a Dark Bottle. Better use of my time than to struggle to sleep because you can't stop yapping. It'd keep me up long enough to get a second wind to make it back to the others. Might help you warm up to run around and do a bit of fighting too, so it works out for us both, huh?"

"They all hate me. You don't hate me, do you?" (For Karol bc I'm experiencing the big Karol sads today)
@valiantxunion
Tumblr media
Who all hated him? The other guilds? Surely not all of them... but even then, even if by some crazy chance they did, what made him think Yuri did? While it could just be a bad day and the kid was just in his own head, Yuri couldn't discount the possibility that he'd been considering such a thing for a while. Karol at least had a habit of thinking about things for a long time, and that combined with his low self esteem...
Regardless of which it was, it still had Yuri turn to him maybe faster than he ever had in the shock of the question. Before he said anything, he tried to think back to anything he might have said by mistake throughout the last week - at least within a somewhat recent amount of time that would make Karol dwell on it until he reached this conclusion. When he realized he was coming up empty, he wasn't sure if it was helpful to keep seeking an answer to that.
The way Karol was curled up into his knees on the floor against the couch left Yuri wondering if he just had a really bad day. If some of the assholes in town had given him shit because he was by himself. Nowadays most of them backed off, especially knowing he was close with Raven, but some of them seemed to behave like it was a matter of their pride. Stupid. Completely stupid.
Karol's voice too. Someone must have said something to him at some point. It didn't matter that Yuri wasn't going to tell him he hated him. Based on the boy's voice, it was wavering in a state of being ready to crack at any moment. As if he expected a particular answer and was already resigning himself to it, but trying to hold himself back until he heard it.
Tumblr media
So Yuri kneeled in front of him, not bothering to convince him to look up or trying to ask him if it was obvious. Maybe even Karol did know it was, but he was so far in his own doubt that he wasn't in a state to be able to think through it properly. There were times it happened to Yuri too, where he was so far in his own head that he could almost actually truly convince himself that so many things were genuinely wrong with him.
Quietly, Yuri spoke with a voice that was almost reserved for Karol now. "I don't hate you, Karol. I've never hated you." He leaned over to pull Karol closer into a hug. "I don't always know what's going on out there or what people say about or to you... but I don't care if the whole world is against you. I'm not, and I won't be. If the rest of the world hates you, you can still come home to me. You'd have to do something really, really, really terrible that no human could ever come back from for me to ever hate you."
He pulled back to give Karol space, letting out a small sigh. Anxiousness and nervousness tended to get the better of Karol, so even if it didn't help right away, he hoped eventually it would sink in when the mood had passed. "And since I don't think you're capable of that, you'll always have me. Don't let those bullies out there get into your head. I don't see them doing any better out in the world. Seems more like they've stagnated while you're just growing. Don't let them feed those demons in your head. And... don't let those demons tell you I hate you."
Yuri knew all about those same demons. They'd followed him around for years now, always putting his self esteem down lower and lower. Often, those demons won. Yuri always needed someone else to be there for him to pull them out. He smiled slightly to Karol though, knowing Karol had support to deal with them too. "If they keep bothering you, I'll beat them up. I'm good at fighting, too, so they'll lose. Call me if they make you wonder if I hate you again."

"You've been running flat out for days! You need to go home and get some sleep!" //pot, meet kettle............
@mistralxsoul
Surely it wasn't that bad, right? Well, he'd been busy... but was he really in such an unfit state? For even Flynn to notice, he must have been... At first Yuri didn't notice. Things got so busy, one thing after another, and he was probably running on adrenaline. It was different from how Flynn usually worked himself to sleep, trying to help with reforms and improve people's livelihoods. On Yuri's end, it was a lot of running around.
This once he would listen to Flynn though, giving a resigned sigh. Flynn wasn't going to let it go by the look on his face. Yuri stood up tiredly, nearly losing his balance and stumbling, instinctively grabbing onto Flynn's arms. It was a good thing he was already sort of home in Aurnion, just over at the headquarters with Flynn, because it wouldn't be far to get to bed. After that though, there was no way he could argue against that he'd been working too overtime when he could hardly stand.
It was still early... and he really didn't want to go to bed this early, lest his waking schedule shifted closer to nighttime. Sometimes it worked out for the jobs the guild took, but other times it interfered in the time he had alone with Flynn. If he went to bed now though, he was likely to be out all night... All night, as in, even skipping dinner. He really was that tired now that it was sinking in.
One look at Flynn after stumbling though and he saw that Flynn was going to either trust him to go immediately home, or follow him there and make sure he went straight to bed. Not that he could totally blame Flynn, since... some guild work was dangerous and... being half awake doing work could actually be dangerous if not outright fatal in some cases.
Traveling throughout that year had definitely messed him up a bit. Made him feel more pressure to keep moving and not stop. Before that he'd... basically never moved. He was always stopped since he'd left the knights. Guess it was about time to get a balance...
Tumblr media
Again, he sighed as he straightened himself and tried to wake himself up properly long enough to prepare himself to get back to the house. "I'm going, I'm going. I'll go right to bed. Can't promise I'll be up at all for the rest of the night, but... if you're fine with me knocking out until tomorrow, I'll go right to bed."

/ just feel like specifying for anyone who isn't aware, but if I owe you something for what feels like a long time the reply is probably actually done and drafted, but I leave things in my drafts for a while nowadays. since I have, at this moment, literally thirty ongoing threads, I try to complete what I have first. when I finish or catch up close enough, I post a reply or two. I also just don't want everything coming back to me all at once and then I stare at everything and do nothing.
basically I'm just trying not to get overwhelmed while also spacing my posts out more to keep the blog updated/active. the more stuff I hoard for a long time, the less I have coming back to me until most of it is in my hands and then I can better know what to expect will be coming back to me. mainly because like, this is supposed to be fun and I suspect if I find myself staring down some like ten new replies in my drafts that I haven't started yet because I had a couple off days where I didn't do anything, it's going to make my muse walk in and walk out. you know. like those gifs. also, it really does help to draft things and keep them for those consecutive off days.
mainly mentioning this because I still reblog starter memes for one offs (and potential starters that may happen along the way), and I think maybe some of y'all might be wondering why I'm doing that when I haven't gotten back to xyz thread in a while. I'm not against starting new things, so this doesn't mean I'll hold back on interacting or want any of you to. I still consider all one off interactions to be valuable to our muses' relationship and give it a boost in whatever direction. I just don't want to get overwhelmed by like say, five people in one day unintentionally all dropping me a reply and then I already had like five in drafts unfinished and now I do not want to look at my drafts lol.
so tl;dr I'm hoarding drafts that are completed bc I have a lot of fckn threads and it prevents me from getting overwhelmed! however, I am always still up for one off interactions, and if you're interested in continuing smth we can still do that! I'm still open for new threads! I just am likely to add you to my hoard!!

"I just feel I need something to occupy my mind."

Is that why he... kept going to bars and flirting? Kept acting like everything was fun and games? Lately he seemed to be spending more of that time with Yuri, Karol and Judith in Dahngrest. Was he... better adapting at having people to turn to now then? Before, he seemed to used to evade topics and act silly, but... sometimes now, he'd tell Yuri or one of the others when something was on his mind. Sometimes he'd even ramble.
"You know you can always talk to one of us, right? Even if it's just as a distraction, if something's bothering you, we can try to help." Try, because he couldn't always promise it would work, but... they didn't make it a habit to ignore each other when someone's mind wandered to a bad place. It wouldn't be the first and probably not the last time that Yuri caught Raven on an off day. His tone was always different, and his gaze always seemed far away.
What could he... Oh. Well. Maybe Yuri could try to use some sort of weapon training? Either Raven could teach him sword techniques, or if that was too distracting because of his past, Yuri could always try to learn bow techniques from him. Even if it wasn't his style, it could still be of use in situations that he couldn't account for right in the moment.
Nowadays Yuri was, truly honestly, getting worried about Raven. His honesty was accepted and embraced, but it also came with a concern that Yuri couldn't have known about when Raven kept hiding it and pushing it away. Lately, he'd let his feelings come to the forefront more often. They seemed... sad, really. This wasn't the Raven he used to think he knew, but he was adjusting. Realizing this was probably the real Raven.
"Do you... want to go try some weapon training? Sword or bow is fine, even if I don't even really knows the basics of a bow... Could distract you and get us both something out of it. Productive stuff. We could take Karol out too and go for dinner - in general or just... do both. I'm sure the kid has plenty of stories he can think up to talk about."

In a way, he was right. In a way, because Yuri wouldn't put blame on him for everything that happened. Life had messed them up and Yuri couldn't blame Flynn for all of that. If they had been together through all of that though and stayed together, Yuri was certain they would have come out healthier. Happier. That getting past the worst of it wouldn't have been so horrible.
Sometimes even that trapped Yuri in the past. Kept him stuck in a time when everything was okay and that if he had a problem, Flynn was there. Even during the times he was starting to worry about Jareth and saw changes in his attitude that made Yuri uncomfortable, Flynn had a read on him immediately as to what the problem was. Back then he didn't have to explain. Flynn always already knew.
But Yuri... had to change. There was nobody left for him to take care of, and even the kids at the orphanage that were left made him feel alienated. Unintentionally of course - they had no personal hand in it. The idea of being there at all in his old home almost made him sick. Nothing truly felt attached to him anymore. Nowadays the orphanage was really just that. An actual orphanage. No longer his home, where the kids with nowhere to go stayed.
Eventually he had to move on. Maybe it would have gone better if he had been ready and grown up through it naturally, but he had abruptly forced away from everything. His whole life was swept out from under him within a month. Had Flynn been there, he probably could have mourned properly. Could have had Flynn by his side while he got through the worst of it and steadily worked toward moving on safely.
Being forced into it though just... left him a mess. How was he supposed to protect their home without Jiri? People would be unsafe again with nobody who could truly stand up to the worst of the bullshit. In that way sometimes it was worse being officially part of the capitol city. It meant people sticking their nose where it didn't belong to harass others, and unfortunately for a while, they had nobody to truly stop it. It left it up to Yuri to handle that, and that, well... spiraled.
Even if it was toward the end of having to save the world, insane as it was to still have to think about, Flynn did eventually reach out again. Yuri was still limp in his arms, but he moved his head slightly to the side, resting it on Flynn's shoulder for a moment. "You did reach out... and I did feel it..." It was too late for both of them as far as damage went, but... it was better then than never.
Until Flynn mentioned it, he hadn't... entirely noticed Flynn seeking him out after missions in the knights. He'd generally noticed Flynn looking in his direction sometimes, but he hadn't known exactly why or what was on his mind if anything. At the time, he could have simply been doing a quick check to make sure everyone was there. Yuri nodded though at his words, because to a point, he did notice. It was only know that he was simply being given a reason for it.
How long had Flynn been keeping all this in? As long as Yuri had with himself? Lately it had been hurting again and it had just... gotten unbearable even more recently. For Flynn, maybe he wasn't finding it intolerable to deal with right now, but he still seemed to have a lot of baggage he was hiding from even Yuri. Things he didn't want to face.
For a second Yuri did wonder why. If it was because he couldn't be trusted. If Flynn didn't want to tell him anything because he didn't want him knowing. He shot the thoughts down, realizing quickly they were just the paranoia flooding his mind right now. No; Flynn probably just didn't want to talk about any of it all these years. Who would? Their lives turned into wrecks after having been so normal and fulfilling.
"I wish... I had noticed sooner... that I loved you..." How different would things be? Surely the trauma of everything they'd gone through - both of them together but also as individuals, still would've had an effect. If they hadn't been alone during it though...? Had someone by their side who understood? "If I had noticed and told you, it wouldn't have... all had to be like this..."
In his perfect world, his siblings would have stayed, even after they'd all moved into their own homes. Things would have slowly returned to normal, even if they were missing a few people. That would always sting, but they would always have each other. Always have that support. He didn't blame them for living their lives, but in his own world... getting out into the world itself and moving on would have been so much easier. He wouldn't have simply wasted away for so long.
Still, maybe it was because it was all already over now that it hurt like this. Because Flynn was, even if Yuri didn't want to admit it to himself, apologizing too late. Coming to terms with everything too late. Not that he couldn't apologize at any time, but because the damage left behind would still be part of Yuri. He hated having to think of it that way, but it was true that... if Flynn had been there, even if nobody else was, things would have worked themselves out. It would never be Flynn's fault, and Yuri still hated the people who did this to them despite that the worst ones were long gone, but there was no denying what it put them through anymore.
As much as Yuri wished the sobs would stop, they only came back harder when Flynn apologized. Though the rest of him remained limp, his arms sought Flynn, wrapping around him tightly as his forehead returned to facing Flynn's shoulder. When did he decide he wasn't supposed to cry like this? The sensation in his palms was strong and uncomfortable, but trying to keep up with his breathing was even more painful. If this was the result of holding it all in for so long, he never wanted to do that again.
"I'm sorry too... Flynn... for everything... For who I turned into when you left... But... I forgive you... I love you, Flynn..." It was all he could manage before the sobs broke out again. They would stop soon, most likely - he could feel the harshest end of it. All he could do was hope it wouldn't come back. He felt so tired now.
In hindsight, it was easy to say things like “I should have” or “I could have”. It’s easy to look back on a time that has passed, to a time where you knew less than you did now, and say that you should have done things differently. Every Human, Krityan, and maybe even Entelexeia alive surely had at least one moment from their lives where they wished they could go back and do things differently. Yuri and Flynn were no different.
It was hard to accept that in the moment, it was simply easier said than done. When one believes they didn’t try hard enough, in reality, they were trying as hard as they possibly could. It was possible that they just couldn’t push as hard as they used to because they had been weakened by something, either mentally or physically. Flynn could see clear as day that that was what happened with Yuri.
Yuri cared for the Lower Quarter more than anything. And within weeks, he had lost his adopted brother, his foster mother, and plenty of others that he had called neighbors. And then Flynn, like the fool he was, left as well, leaving Yuri behind with almost nothing. He was already weak emotionally, and like Flynn, lashed out through the pain. And then joining the knights only served to beat him down more and more and Flynn hadn’t helped in the slightest. Yuri ended up withdrawing deeper and deeper into himself and had to adjust his entire being just to stop himself from showing how much pain he was in… almost like a defense mechanism.
“Yuri… You went looking for me hundreds of times. You’ve had to come find me so many times just so you could make sure I came home.” As a child, as a teen, as a knight, as he was now. Yuri was always searching for him, always there to drag him back when he was lost in himself and it wasn’t fair. Why didn’t he do the same for Yuri? And then by the time he had tried to reach out, it was already too late. He had hurt Yuri enough that any attempt to reach out and get through to him just ended with Yuri growing defensive again.
“You… don’t need to be the one always looking for me.” Flynn swallows down a sob, just squeezing the man tightly in his arms. He shouldn’t blame himself. He doesn’t want to blame himself. Yuri doesn’t want to blame himself. But Yuri has to understand. “Sometimes… Sometimes people have to come and bring you home. And I know you waited and– and waited…”
The lump in his throat was becoming too much to bear. Another deep breath as he shoves his wet face into Yuri’s hair. “And I shouldn’t have… made you wait so long… I was lost too, but I should’ve realized that we could have at least been lost together… And– And after everything, I… tried to reach out but I…I’m just… I’m just glad that eventually, Brave Vesperia found you. Karol and Judith, Captain Raven– everyone… when they told me how they had–had to chase after you to make sure you weren’t alone, I was so happy. I was so happy that someone was able to find you and…”
He was forever grateful to the members of Brave Vesperia for being there for Yuri when Flynn couldn’t be. Flynn knew he couldn’t always be there for Yuri and vice versa. But Flynn believed that the thing that was bothering him most about this whole thing was that it felt like he didn’t even try to reach Yuri until it was too late. Even when Yuri’s behavior within the knights was a clear call for help. One that infuriated Flynn to no end at the time.
“I would have noticed if you had gone missing… I’m… not sure if you noticed how I would look for you first when we got back from a mission. Or how my heart would sink when you were just a few minutes late meeting back up with us. If you had gone missing, I would have known. I would have cared. I would’ve flipped everything upside down just to make sure you came home safe…”
He shouldn’t be apologizing. And he knows he’ll likely be making it worse. But he couldn’t– couldn’t let Yuri go thinking that he was the main reason, that he had been the one to abandon that side of himself. Yuri gave and gave and gave and gave and gave to the world… it really was a matter of time before he gave too much.
“...I’m sorry, Yuri. I’m so sorry… I-I’m here now and… I know that doesn’t make this magically go away but I’m not going to leave you again. I’ll chase after you to the ends of the world if I must. I won’t let you be alone anymore… I’m sorry.”
