Brad's BBQ at Josh's Deli on Tuesdays
Back in tha day, you could find Chef Brad Kilgore smoking it up at Josh's Deli in Surfside with Brad's BBQ.
What do you mean only Tuesdays? Yeah, that’s the way it goes. Chef Brad Kilgore, who I’ve been watching via fellow blogger Food for Thought site for a while now, is the man behind Brad’s BBQ.He’s taking over Josh’s Deli (9517 Harding Ave Surfside) every Tuesday night with some KC-style BBQ (no, I will not use the pop-up buzzword even though I just did). I knew this was my opportunity to finally…

Woody's Burgers Food Truck
Woody's Burgers debuted at one of my food truck events in 2014. These days they can mostly be found doing catering gigs around South Florida.
Last night at the Wheelin’ Dealin’ Street Food Festival, Woody’s Burgers came out to Florida’s longest-running food truck event for the first time. I was extra excited since I’m on a wood-burning & char-grilled burger kick, and Woody’s covers both. The 7-ounce patties from Woody’s Burgers are a chuck & brisket mix. The fries are fresh cut, and five dipping sauces are available (Red Eye, Wasabi,…

Earl of Sandwich at Florida Service Plazas
I wrote this in 2011 and have yet to eat from an Earl of Sandwich again. Any fans out there? Which is the sandwich to get?
When I was last in Vegas at the end of 2007, I remember seeing an Earl of Sandwich – Coming Soon sign at the Planet Hollywood hotel. I was pretty excited for some unknown reason, but I never thought about it again until I walked into the Port St. Lucie-Ft. Pierce (Milepost 144) Turnpike Service Plaza. When you’re traveling on the Florida Turnpike you’ll find service plazas approximately every 40…

Ernesto's Taco Shop in Cutler Bay, Florida
Ernesto's Taco Shop in Cutler Bay has some Miami history so stop by for a taco and check it out!
One of my friends loves Ernesto’s Taco Shop (20095 S Dixie Hwy Cutler Bay). So she asked me to meet her for a late lunch and claimed to have a surprise for me. As I walk up to the door at Ernesto’s Taco Shop, I see the surprise. It’s an intact 1940s-1950s terrazzo floor from Royal Castle. Wow, what a find, and it’s a beauty. Royal Castle Terrazzo Floor at Ernesto’s Taco Shop After Royal Castle…

Steve's Pizza in North Miami, Florida
I probably need some new pics for this post from 2010 but I just had to add the peanut gallery comment.
Before I even started the Burger Beast in 2008, many folks had nothing but high praise for Steve’s Pizza (12101 Biscayne Blvd, North Miami). However, Steve’s Pizza is a Miami comfort food landmark regardless of what the peanut gallery thinks. So Marcela and I decided to drive up to Steve’s and see what this spot was all about. My initial thought was that Steve’s would have fit in nicely with all…

Sergio's Restaurants All Over Miami
Originally written on November 2nd, 2008, this post about Sergio's Restaurant needed an update.
I remember the first time I heard of Sergio’s. It was the early ’90s, and my sister & her friends would go there late at night on the weekend to get cafe con leche (Cuban coffee with steamed milk). I had already made it out to be this place where all these hipster kids would hang out late and talk about how bad they had it.So I ate there with her one time, and I was hooked. But, as it turns out,…

Caribe Cafe Restaurant in Miami, Florida
I stopped in for an early dinner today with Marcela at Caribe Cafe Restaurant on N.W. 7th Street & thought it was a good time to update this post from September 2009.
Since 1979 Caribe Café Restaurant has been serving phenomenal Cuban dishes at 3953 N.W. 7th Street. I have been a loyal patron of this Caribe location for over 30 years. Since Juan Jose Alvarado purchased it in 2005, it has undergone a massive renovation. Alvarado moved this location away from its Cuban dive-ish tendencies to a cleaner and more reputable restaurant. Juan Jose Alvarado, who once…

Terry Bradshaw Ranch Angus Burgers Review
I was invited to try the three different styles of Bradshaw Ranch Burgers via email. Holten, who makes my favorite frozen burger on the market, produces these too.
When the opportunity presented itself to try the Bradshaw Ranch Burgers, I jumped at it. Holten, who makes my favorite frozen burger on the market, produces these fellas. The Bradshaw in the name is NFL legend, Terry Bradshaw. Three Angus burger varieties (beef, cheddar & bacon, and cheddar, bacon & garlic) are available in one-third or quarter-pound patties. A collage I made of Bradshaw Ranch…

Halloween Horror Nights 2022 Themed Food
I received an email from Universal Studios about the food & drink for the upcoming Halloween Horror Nights. Since I'm a horror fan, I can appreciate its creativity and figured I'd share the info.
Can you believe I’ve never been to Halloween Horror Nights? It’s kinda strange since if you know anything about Marcela and me, it’s that we love horror films and dark culture. So yeah, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando returns from September 2nd through October 31st. There’s a bunch of new food and drinks for this year’s extravaganza. The first one that caught my attention, not…

Mojo Donuts & Fried Chicken in Westchester
Here's another great post revamp where I added my interview with Mojo Donuts owner Jimmy Piedrahita and a bunch of new pics.
While the Mojo Donuts ((8870 SW 40th St, Miami) in Westchester isn’t the original location, it’s the one I frequent. Of the three Mojo Donuts donut shops (Coral Gables & Pembroke Pines are the other two), it’s the only one with chicken wings, fried chicken sandwiches, and french fries.Jimmy (who owns the Miami shops) and I have been friends since 7th grade, so whenever we see each other, we…

Bodega on Central in St. Petersburg, Florida
It's been six years but I looked Bodega on Central up online & everything looks great. It might be time to make the drive to St. Petersburg for a revisit.
A few years back, Bodega on Central (1120 Central Ave 1180 Central Ave, St. Petersburg, Florida) had just closed its doors for the day as my wife Marcela and I had arrived. We were down the street at an antique shop that suggested we check out their Frita Cubana. Since then, it has stuck in my mind. Table Decor I should preface this Medianoche and Cuban Sandwich discussion with a disclaimer.…

The Burgerly in New Hope, Pennsylvania
If you're anywhere near New Hope, Pennsylvania (Philly, I'm talking to you), the Burgerly needs to be on your must eats list.
One advantage of planning the 27-day road trip was that I could dictate which route we take to each city. It was essential that somehow I end up at The Burgerly (137 S Main Street, New Hope) on my drive from Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Boston, Massachusetts. One of the pandemic’s positives was bonds forged over a mutual love and admiration for burgers. Chef Bobby Marcotte of the Tuckaway…

Direct From Philly in Deerfield Beach, Florida
Direct from Philly was the spot, if you wanted real deal Philly Cheesesteaks. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, they shut down and never reopened.
Tucked away inside a Chevron, you can find Direct from Philly (1201 S Military Trail, Deerfield Beach) serving up some righteous cheese steaks in Deerfield Beach. These 1/2 pound 9 inchers are unlike one of those unfulfilling chain subs. Instead, they’re using Amoroso’s rolls baked in Philly to add authenticity to their sandwiches. There are also wings (available in 10,20 & 50) and fries (1/2 or…

Pickle Barrel Deli in Deerfield Beach, Florida
The Pickle Barrel is a landmark deli & sandwich shop in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
I’ve passed the Pickle Barrel (133 E Hillsboro Blvd, Deerfield Beach) on the way to and from Charm City Burger Company & El Jefe Luchador so many times I’ve lost count. But, I always think the same thing; I will stop here on my way home. The Pickle Barrel in Deerfield Beach, Florida The problem is the Pickle Barrel is closed by the time I’m heading home (5 PM). So this time, I start my…

Prime 112 in South Beach, Florida
This post is almost 12 years old; and it's been 8 years since the last time I hit up Prime 112. Anyone frequent Prime 112 regularly or their other restaurant, Big Pink?
My buddy (an actual friend, not the 1980’s toy) called me and told me that I must eat at Prime One Twelve (112 Ocean Drive, South Beach). So, what do I know about Prime One Twelve? It seems as if every celebrity that visits Miami ends up there. In other words, it’s a place that does not usually interest me. After looking over the menu, I have a change of heart; it feels like comfort food heaven.…

S’Mac in New York's East Village
Here's a throwback to a post from 2010, S'Mac is still open but in a different location: Who would've thunk that one of the first places I put on my New York must-visit list would be S'Mac, a tiny shop in the East Village specializing in Mac & Cheese?
S’Mac, aka Sarita’s Macaroni and Cheese (*197 1st Avenue, East Village), was one of the first places I put on my New York must-visit list. I love mac & cheese, and who doesn’t? This tiny joint has over ten pre-set mac & cheese creations to choose from, or you can create your own. And yes, there are Vegan options too. Sampler Pie Chart It was a little overwhelming, so I went the lazy man route,…
