fascinating to me how quickly we forget that the cycles repeat. people treating 5-15 year olds like this breed of superchild created to do evil and taint the world. that was all of us. "they're wrecking sephoras" you would not survive a 2015 hot topic with this mindset. "they're falling for the stanley cup thing" buying on trend overly robust camping gear for every day use is like. a middle class tradition in this country. our glorious kånken backpack vs their wicked stanley cup.

randomly remembering the time in 2012 when everyone kept saying the world was going to end at midday that day and like, i didnt really believe it, but i didnt want to be a complete fool if i was wrong, so i excused myself from class to go sit the field and perfectly timed the beat drop to a skrillex song just in case something happened. and im just. retroactively amused by the idea of ushering in the appocalypse with skrillex. most 2012 thing you could possibly do.

okay, so, remember that awkward little moment when sokka shows zuko his new room at the western air temple? this is what happens right after:

aang doesn't go along with sokka to zuko's room, but he waits for him outside. aang is the one who will have to spend the most time with zuko from now on (firebending training and all), but that does not mean that the others won't have to accept him, or at least get used to him. he knows that everyone else will have to make peace with him like he has, so he gives them the space for it.

that is why aang smiles in this clip. for a moment, he's concerned because of sokka's bummed out expression but his frown immediately vanishes when sokka says being with zuko was just "really, really weird." the moment sokka says "okay." because that means that all of this will eventually be okay, and that is enough for aang now.

also, he gives his friends space to come to understand zuko the way he has, but he is also there for them, constantly. he knows that acceptance won't come as easily for them as it has for him, so he supports them through it. that is why he doesn't go in with sokka but still waits for him at the door.

also, this reminds me of this from the southern raiders episode:

i know that people like to paint aang as jealous of what katara and zuko have, or say that he is the one who stands between them as an obstacle to their love - but i think that's a misreading of what happens. he stands in the middle as an intermediary. he is the one who connects katara and zuko and, in fact, through whom the entire friend group is connected. none of them would have the relationship they do if it weren't for aang.

and i like to think that it was a conscious decision on the writers' behalf to show these little moments of relief and contentment he feels when his friends get along with each other. he isn't jealous... he is happy.

i think part of the reason lost media videos are so fun is that it more ethically scratches the same itch as true crime. a bunch of people online being amateur sleuths and going down rabbit holes is a lot easier to enjoy when theyre looking for a cereal commercial from 1991 instead of liike bothering the families of murder victims

one of the worst feelings in the world is when you're playing a game with dialogue choices and none of the options are something you want to say. like i know it's not me, it's the character i'm playing, but he would not fucking say that. i know him better than you and the burden of this knowledge weighs heavier on me than you will ever understand.
