Favorite thing about renaissance faires is that they have fuck all to to with the renaissance. This thang is not about historical anything this is about dressing up like a fairy and watching a joust

just a reminder that us diy punks are just overgrown craft kids!!!! We are happiest with tape and paper and markers. We make little things!!! Just like your nephew little timmy!!!! We will gladly make a handprint turkey!!!! The only difference is we want human rights and use our little crafts as protest.

I added a water bottle pocket to my pants!
This came up due to the fact I use Lyft bikes to get around and they don't have bottle holders, so I placed this pocket here because this part of my leg remains relatively upright while pedaling.
Heres the initial proof of concept
Tumblr media
But it looked rather silly especially when not in use. It also flopped around a lot when a full drink is being held and I was walking around so I started to look into ways to collapse it and secure it when in use.
First attempt came up with this:
Tumblr media
Which looks nice, but wouldn't help restrain the movement of the pocket with a bottle in it.
So I moved to this belt design, using straps I had designed for the pants in an earlier iteration.

And it works like a charm.
Holds the bottle in place, is easy to fold away, and looks nice in use.
Though not sure I like the red and might switch to black straps but I'd love to hear all your thoughts and possible improvements!

I think the funniest thing that normies don’t realize is that punks LOVE arts and crafts. Patches and studs? Arts and crafts. Collaging band posters? Arts and crafts. Mohawk and hair dye in your bathroom? Arts and crafts. We are happiest with a pair of scissors and a glue stick and some paint

You know, if Spider Punk gets people interested in punk, good. We all have to start somewhere and Hobie is a damn good representation. If he is what makes a person go “hey, this seems cool, I should check it out.” good. That’s one more person interested in punk and wanting to get into it.
That being said, if you are new to punk(hi baby punks!) some things to keep in mind
1. Punk philosophy is largely anti-authoritarian. Individual and even punk communities differ on specifics, and some are more political than others, but the core themes tend to be resisting those who would control and oppress us, and supporting and including people in your community
2. Punk fashion SHOULD NOT BE EXPENSIVE. A lot of fashion companies will try and sell you jackets for a couple hundred bucks, but that’s just corporations trying to cash in on a subculture. A big part of Punk and its history is DIY because Punk should be open to everyone and putting that behind a fashion paywall is just not punk. You don’t even need to be dressing punk to BE punk, but thrift your clothes. Make stencils and use spray paint or bleach to give it a pattern. Use old jeans to make patches. Buy your spikes and studs in bulk and go wild. Turn your old t shirt that doesn’t fit anymore into a back patch. Go crazy with some safety pins. You can make more with $30 than you can buy from a designer for $300. And skill is not needed, frankly if it looks a little wonky it makes it look more punk
3. Dental floss makes for good thread for sewing on patches. It’s good for thick, stylistic stitches and is both cheap and durable. Don’t know why I made this its own point but it’s one of the most common tricks for punk DIY besides taking paint to scraps of fabric to make a patch. Honestly, if you want to know how to do more, just ask other punks how they made their vests and jackets, they’ll probably be happy enough to tell you
4. Punk philosophy and music is closely related. The communities evolved around the music scene so it is closely linked. Give some punk bands a try if you haven’t already. There’s a bunch of subgenres so you’ll probably find something you like. From OG “proto punk” where the sound was still developing into what we call punk, to pop punk, anarco punk, and folk punk. There are people who say you can’t be punk if you don’t listen to the music, and there’s a whole conversation to be had about all that, but it’s just a good idea to try listening to some punk music
5, Nazis fuck off
6. Seriously, nazis fuck off. There’s a whole history behind it and why we associate skinhead punks with neo nazis. Largely we’ve made it clear we don’t want nazis in our community and the street punk music scene that nazi punks became associated with has made strides to separate themselves from that.
7. Be cool and respectful of people regardless of religion, ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender, background, etc. Solidarity with our community is important and all sorts are welcome. Gatekeeping isn’t cool and frankly women and minorities have done a lot for punk as a whole. Respect for everyone

So Fox News ran a story about how they think libraries are turning into drug-infested sex dens and I am shocked, shocked that I was never offered any drugs during my 15+ years working in libraries.

Well, I am going to do something similar only with photography. This is a photo someone took for an Amazon review of their Clinique products.
Tumblr media
Honestly, it is not a terrible photo. They did some staging. They have an interesting background. All of the labels are legible. It is properly exposed. This would be a perfectly acceptable product photo for an Etsy page.
I've been taking these advanced photography courses in preparation for whenever I am able to create a new studio in the house. And my teacher is a photography badass. I just watched a 6 hour class on how to recreate a professional Clinique ad. And at first glance it looks deceptively simple. It's just some skin care products being splashed with a little water.
Which is why I wanted you to see an average person for reference.
This is what Karl Taylor came up with.
Tumblr media
And I don't think I've learned so much about photography in one tutorial before.
Product photography is just loads and loads of problem solving. You have to light the chrome caps with a gradient. Which requires giant diffusion scrims.
Tumblr media
Those big white panels are literally only there for the two chrome caps.
You need a pure white background, but you can't let light spill all over the studio, so you put up giant black light blockers.
Tumblr media
And you have to add another light just for the orange bottle on the right.
Tumblr media
Oh, and if you want the bottles to glow, well, you have to hide a silver reflector behind them.
Tumblr media
But you still want the edges of the bottles to be darker so they have some contrast. So you add some black tape to the sides.
Tumblr media
And in order for the reflective labels to have bold black lettering, you have to reflect black cards into them.
Tumblr media
Ack! Karl's beautiful bald head is showing up in the chrome caps! He must put on the naughty blanket.
Tumblr media
And once you get every aspect of every bottle perfectly lit, you finally get to yeet some water at it all.
Tumblr media
I don't love product photography because I have a weird obsession to help greedy corporations make their wares look more beautiful. I love it because it is a complicated and challenging new puzzle every time. Every product is a different shape and requires a different technique to make it look its best.
I don't know if I will be able to live up to Karl's standards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is about the level I was at in 2017 before I quit photography.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have so much more knowledge in my brain now. I'm really hoping I can surpass that.
