Blah blah blah adhd ramblings blah blah blah after the war and being light years apart some space magic happens and Julian and Garak have some weird ass link/bond and they start to have odd visions of seeing one another but it looks kinda ghostly bc the other is just doing something on their end (like grabbing something or whatever) but the one seeing them only sees their weird ghostly image and they start to freak out and worry about it. Some shared thoughts and imagining and dreams here and there at random times. And soon it’s driven them to one another to figure shit out and it’s very tension high and sexual and quick “it’s obvious we have strong feelings for one another and it desperately needs to come out and this is our moment” yeah (a bit more in tags)

thinking about how when you experience a lot of shame in your formative years (indirectly, directly, as abuse or just as an extant part of your environment) it becomes really difficult to be perceived by other people in general. the mere concept of someone watching me do anything, whether it's a totally normal activity or something unfamiliar of embarrassing, whether I'm working in an excel spreadsheet or being horny on main, it just makes my skin crawl and my brain turn to static because I cannot convince myself that it's okay to be seen and experienced. because to exist is to be ashamed and embarrassed of myself, whether I'm failing at something or not, because my instinctive reaction to anyone commenting on ANYTHING I'm doing is to crawl into a hole and die. it's such a bizarre and dehumanizing feeling to just not be able to exist without constantly thinking about how you are being Perceived. ceaseless watcher give me a god damn break.

Honestly sub Garak would be so strong. He’s a master of lying, hence of manipulation, and he uses this mastered skill to rile Julian up and play the role as the bratty sub so well. But he never expects Julian to see through it, even when Julian is like “I know he’s just fucking with me with his spy skills, but I can’t help but fall it.” And so when Julian DOES fight against it, Garak is left “:0 he’s making me play nice? Follow his rules??” And yeah it annoys him to lose and be submissive even outside the bedroom, but it’s so arousing and exciting and he’s so happy Julian is showing how skilled and strong he is and well skilled he is in lying actually.

I don't know if I'm just lucky or perhaps Star Trek has just the nicest fans ever but this commission was - again - such a lovely experience! I think it’s neat that The Nexus/Dreambox play says the Universal Translator has a hum to it when used, and that Cardassians and Humans would have difficulties, or straight out wouldn’t be able, in speaking each other’s language because their facial features (mouth, tongue, shape in general) just don’t match with it

Andy and Sid actually mention this in their play The Nexus/Dreambox! And in this Nexus they realize they’ve been talking without the UT and understanding one another as they would if they spoke fluently each other language — which Julian notes would be impossible for him because of how his mouth/throat works as a human!

WAIT okay I don't know how to word this at all but basically the way we perceive speech sounds is through like. different frequencies are amplified or dampened by the ways we shape our vocal tract and we hear those differences in like which frequencies are louder and which frequencies are quieter and that's how we recognize different phonemes. or something. so if like aliens have a different hearing range and/or differently shaped vocal tracts they could have an entirely different phonemic inventory than human languages??? like shrimp colors but it's alien phonemes???? this might seem like a really obvious realization but like those guys could be distinguishing vowels based on formants we can't even perceive!! their hearing range could start above 5000 hz and they wouldn't be able to hear the difference between any of our vowels!! enough with giving klingon uvular plosives or whatever to make it sound ""exotic"" that shit should be UNPRODUCIBLE with a human vocal tract and UNPERCEIVABLE with human ears!! no wonder they need universal translators when your ears could be physically unable to distinguish between alien phonemes??? sorry I'm realizing that this really is an incredibly obvious thought just couched in overly technical language but I'm excited about it nonetheless. spock's surname is unpronounceable bc it's got a bunch of consonant clusters? NO it actually has secret vulcan phonemes distinguished by differences in frequencies above the human range of hearing so u can't even perceive it correctly let alone pronounce it. cardassians have a hearing range significantly smaller than humans so they physically cannot understand most human languages...
