If you take requests, could you share some facts about the Philippine Eagle?
Philippine Eagle aka Monkey-eating Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), family Accipitridae, order Accipitriformes, endemic to the forests of the Philppines
CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
While not the largest eagle in terms of weight, they are considered the largest eagle in the world in terms of length and wing surface area.
They are endangered due to loss of habitat (deforestation).
Once considered to be closely related to the Harpy Eagle, DNA analysis concludes that they are actually much more closely related to the Snake Eagles (like the Bataleur).
Despite the nickname, they feed on a wide variety of mid sized animals, like monitor lizards, flying lemurs, small deer, etc, as well as monkeys.
Sometimes the storm is here to stay for a while, and trying to hide from it can be exhausting. Embrace your feelings and know you’ll make it through, just like you did the last one!
Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), family Balaenicipitidae, order Pelicaniformes, Uganda
This bird is the only member of its family.
The taxonomic affinities of this bird have long been debated. It currently rests within the order Pelicaniformes. It was, in the past, often placed in the Ciconiiformes.
Its closest living relative is most likely the Hamerkop.
another ant mimic jumping spider from Singapore. this one might have been the most antlike out of any spider I’ve ever seen, with a little crease on its opisthosoma to look like an ant’s segmented abdomen and posterior lateral eyes set to look like an ant’s angular head!
I was on my way home when I felt a spark of joy, seeing this beautiful flower lying on the ground.
"Perfect!" I told myself as I picked it up, "I can give it to the old lady I usually see near the bus stop."
Then I decided to give it a sniff. Turned out, it smells just as beautiful as —if not more than— how it looks!
"Ah, I'd love to have this smell fill up my room. Well, I could keep it for myself and have it sitting in the water, on my desk..." I thought, "... but that's not the reason why I picked it up in the first place."
I then handed to the old lady, who received it with a big smile. ( ◜‿◝ )
Dear God, thank you for allowing me to extend the happiness I got from Your creation to another one of them ♡
