Jess and Choi gave me really helpful suggestions on 3d printing setting and casting, it made me easier to cast and cold working.
Changing 3d printing base from raft to brim, this commend helps me easy to clean the surface of each section.
building a box can help me to cast each section perfectly, which mean I could have more space to put more glass into it and gave more pressure to push the glass into each corner.
I played with the firing schedule, the first time of attempting, it wasn’t change clear to creamy white, but on the second time of firing, some of the sections changed a little. I think I could play the hold more, in order to get what I want.

Trying to figure out the best way to connect each piece. I have drawn many ideas on Rhino and compare each design to pick the best one to apply to my understanding of the eastern aesthetic.

These days, I have been studying cup shapes and history from the Song dynasty. In this time period, tea cup making was a peak time in ancient China, The Chinese name is “Jian Zhan”, it was only for the Chinese emperor using. I learned a really interesting trick, ancient Chinese people design “a special line” at inner teacup, it can prevent water from overflowing from the bellow, in Chinese, it is called 溢水线.

Mortise and tenon joint structure
A mortise (or mortice) and tenon joint connect two pieces of wood or of other material. Woodworkers around the world have used it for thousands of years to join pieces of wood, mainly when the adjoining pieces connect at right angles.
During the when I was living in Beijing, I usually went to Forbidden Palace to get my inspirations from.
In China, ancient Chinese people had used this technique for thousands of years, but nowadays it has reduced gradually.

This project I combine serval ideas inspired by my long-time study aboard experience and an ancient Chinese wooden building principle. Also, I try to break the boundary of the unicity of goblet. In order to achieve this project, I have been testing different perspectives of the functionality, spiritual and cultural. I careful study Proportion, mechanics, matieral and lifestyle, in order to achieve the eastern aesthetic that I understand.
Nowadays, cultural transmission is a very important challenge for Chinese people, what should we inherit? How to inherit? Chinese civilization does not have a modality to inherit, from the period of Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, each period has its own development modality. If we do not inherit the modality, what we can inherit?
Every year, I go back to China for visiting my family, and I can see how fast China economic is growing, also I am growing too, but except money, what we lack? I think we lack confidence, so why we lack confidence? because we lack content.
As a long-term studying aboard Chinese art student, what we learn all is from western, but we are different from those western people who paint traditional Chinese painting, we know China and the Chinese society, we have a double meaning. Comparing with Guoqiang Cai, Yongbing Huang, They and we can achieve our value in the western frame, “they” success cannot be done in China, so I can call us, we are the artist under the system of western art.
Why I have to prove I am Chinese? I find out Chinese people face some problems, at the same time, I also see the same problem when I meet people from all over the world. Based on people own inherent limitations, everyone has own perspective because of the perspective, people need to confirm “who am I”, it requires a lot of reference points. Why Chinese people have to prove I am Chinese?
Firstly, from utilitarian perspective,if we built up our own Chinese symbol system,it has highly Commercial value.
Secondly, from self-identity perspective, normally a person who has self-identity can have culture standpoint. Culture standpoint can bring value evaluation and value selection.
Thirdly, from a belief perspective,  if you have a view of nature and life when you in the process of interaction between man and nature, society and nature, you will have a direction and bottom line.
Although people have common cognitive Ability, but due to people come from a different place and culture background, like people live in Edinburgh, they do not have the same cognitive ability to compare people live in Beijing, the cognitive decides people how to live.
I think a good design project, it should have an atmosphere itself. The atmosphere includes the view of value, method, technique and etc. Design is not politic, we are not shouting slogans. we should express in moisten things silently.

Plan for next semester
Next semester, I will continue my previous journey of sleep paralysis, so as an international student study aboard unconsciously and increasingly influenced by the stresses of academic life, it is very important to pay close attention to that, while sleep paralysis may cause mental disorders, it is an unusual phenomenon, it also help as yet another reason facilitate mental and physical well-being on campus. The desired outcome of both these forms of dissemination is that it will help me improve on my emotional state since I am mentally aware of my dreams and such they are not as terrifying any more and they do not come as often. Finding my voice through the creation of vivid dreams, night terrors and hallucinatory visions gave myself the facilitate that we needed to grow and become as an artist, I believe that glass is a medium where you can express rational and irrational thoughts even dreams through three dimensions and I would like to show what happens in my brain to my viewers.

Quote
We want to see the newest things. That is because we want to see the future, even if only momentarily. It is the moment in which, even if we don't completely understand what we have glimpsed, we are nonetheless touched by it.

SUMMATIVE ESSAY
For this semester, I have explored some new ideas through the glass lighting design in order to achieve my goal about how to combine digital media with traditional glass making. The lighting project is focused on for this statement is my thesis project, in which I am creating a notion of almost real in order to explore unique materiality of glass between pure and impure, almost material yet virtually unreal. The point of this project is to highlight that modern glass lighting lack of variety, it is not just a glass lighting project, it is combined mechanism, traditional glass craft and motion graphic all put into one.
In glass lighting world we normally can see traditional glass lightings such as brand barovier&Toso , Italian lighting center, and multiforme, for contemporary glass lightings such as Lasvit, Brokis, LUUUM, lights lights lights, and iconic lighting. They all have a great design from big installation lighting pieces to single pieces, but they are all motionless, I think they can be more function, interesting, playful and futurism.
This time I reuse the IKEA PS 2014 lighting piece and the principle of contract and expand, this principle just like we use an umbrella, so in the manufacturing industry, we can normally see a robot arm or a person doing the same motion over and over again, when this applies in C4D art, we could feel really satisfying and precisely feeling.
The reason why I chose a transparent gold-pink metallic color, I want the audience to see the inside of the lighting, to give them a high-tech sense and also march the whole color.
The challenge for the lighting piece is Arduino coding, wiring, power supply, and glass weight. Coding is a new field for me, but I learn a lot from Matthew, I think in the future, I can have a collaboration with digital people. Wiring is tricky, sometimes you think you wire the right place, but if you don’t check closely, two wires can be miswired and the connections are very close, they can be touched cause short circuit. A different voltage of power supply will give different power to Arduino board and motor shield board, and each board has a different power bearing ratio. I have attempted three times of redesign outer part of this lighting, due to the weight, it is not easy to change my design easily, but it worth to challenge.
Improvement: I see some of the improvements for this lighting piece, in the future, I will try to figure out how to use one power supply to support it, and blow evenly glass sphere, it can make it easy to assemble and produce. Using simple motion principle to create more interesting pieces. For Neopixel rings, I think I can make more interesting light animation for audience interaction. I should use more color to enhance reflection.
For this lighting piece, it has more possibilities for design, such as a different sensor system, LED animation, motion interaction.
I want to name the lighting piece “未生”,I mix with two Chinese characters which means it is new, reborn and chance, I want to define this project as a tentative, challenge and futuristic creation.
