New op-ed in the LA Times: Power to the people! Together we can stop the climate crisis
“The ultimate, hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make, and could just as easily make differently.” – David Graeber

If you’re grieving, you are not alone.
tbh if you’re afraid of climate change… GOOD. if it fills you with dread…that’s normal! if environmental destruction and the uncertain future for us on this planet is stressful…it SHOULD BE! we are part of this planet—and it is changing in ways that are unfamiliar and frightening. If you’re grieving then that means that you know that something is wrong.
Please don’t deny yourself that grief. Because with it comes power and community. It is through grief that transformation happens. When we grieve, we make way for other emotions like anger, hope, acceptance and love. We need these feelings too.
Anger can be very useful. It can light people up and carry them through darkness. Its fight or flight. It’s fuel for the fire. We deserve better. Our world deserves better. It is only right that we rage for what has been done knowingly in the name of profit.
Hope because otherwise what is the point? We must believe that there will be generations that come after us. That all is not lost. Because it isnt. And it won’t be as long as we keep trying.
Acceptance- not of our circumstances because fuck that- but of the fact that it happened at all. That there will always be places on this planet that are scarred by destruction. That even the most inhospitable places are places of nature that deserve love.
And Love, of course. For our planet and all the amazing diversity that shares the same earth as us. For each other, our communities, for basic human dignity and rights to clean air, water, soil . Love for our ancestors who once knew how to live sustainably and love for the ones who will come after us.
If you’re grieving, you are not alone.

Regeneration.org
Let's start our year with something positive!
If you feel anxious about climate change, go check out Regeneration.org. This website has several climate theme pages that contain lists of helpful actions for individuals, groups, companies, and governments. Each page also outlines organisations that can help achieve these goals and a list of bad actors you can go spam about climate change.
Don't know where to start with fighting climate change? This is a pretty good place to start.

If you only ever watch one video about climate action, I recommend this one.
If you’ve ever thought, “I want to help stop climate change or protect the environment but I have no idea where to start or what I as a single person can actually do” then this video is for you.
TL/DR: There are actions that are impactful for anyone, like protesting, voting, etc. but the most impactful action for each individual person depends on your unique strengths and resources. Finding your “climate superpower” based on what you are already good at and passionate about can amplify your impact.

i wish so fucking bad that schools would teach even the most basic nature and wildlife literacy. bc what they teach now is how we get these godawful lawns and monocultures and an endlessly growing list of extinct animal species. like i can’t even count how many times i’ve been trying to explain to people why mosquitoes/moths/bats/flies/wasps/etc are so important and people have gone “but that’s what bees are for (pollination)” or “birds can just eat other things” or “things decompose on their own”. it has to be in the dozens. nothing makes me as upset as when people simply cannot wrap their heads around the fact (fact, fact, fact) that every single organism has its purpose in nature and there is *nothing* that is “pointless”. ignorance like this is what leads to barren monoculture lawns and deforestation and “pest control” and devastating invasive species and expanding extinction/endangerment lists. i just wish schools would teach that every animal and plant has its place, and *nothing* needs to be exterminated as a whole, *especially* native wildlife. but of course capitalism can’t thrive on proper environmentalism so i guess we’ll just have to deal with this.

today my wisdom is: the ecological crisis of our planet is not a thing that will Suddenly destroy us sometime in the next century—it has taken decades of continuous work for our biosphere to be preserved thus far, and it will take decades more of continuous work to continue preserving it.
The apocalypse is not a single event hovering in the future bearing down on us while we sit helplessly. We are at least 150 years into an ongoing "apocalypse."
Things will continue to steadily get worse without steady action, but "augh! it's already too late to stop climate change and mass extinctions!" is specifically the worst response

Please, we need your help. The willow project is a project being viewed by the President in this moment, the plan is to sell ALASKA and its land, homes, and WILDLIFE for oil drilling. The project will produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil a day, according to the company — about 1.5% of total U.S. oil production. But in Alaska, Willow represents the biggest oil field in decades. What’s the problem with that? Project opponents point to its potential impact on global climate change. Environmental impact documents conclude that if the oil produced by Willow is burned, it would create 260 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. Exposure to CO2 can produce a variety of health effects. These may include headaches, dizziness, restlessness, a tingling or pins or needles feeling, difficulty breathing, sweating, tiredness, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, coma, asphyxia, various cancers, and convulsions. Once the plan is approved, climate change will be irreversible and unfixable no matter the effort. But the only way we can stop this is if 189 more environmentalists and citizens like you sign our petition before it's too late. We only have one month left before it’s approved, without your help- the human race will suffer more than it ever has. Don’t let old white men in the government decide the fate of generations, and centuries of human history and cellular evolution. I’m asking you not as a fellow american citizen, but as a human being- take a few minutes to end the end from consuming life as we know it.
Plz reblog so we can get as many signatures as possible!!
