Charlie Cox seriously has massive romcom guy vibes and energy IRL and I think it's a borderline crime that this isn't being utilized well because he's mostly doing serious crime drama and action roles. Like I know he's a stellar dramatic actor but look at the material!

The softness! The cuteness! Gentle but hot, and sexy AND adorable. Rom-com casting directors need to see and get with this vision ASAP!

it frustrates me to see people saying modern Gale would be an AI bro. Modern Gale would hate AI because there is no soul in it, no creativity; it is attempting to 'solve' art with math and he would find that stifling and depressing.
GORTASH IS THE AI BRO stop robbing him of his title. He would be blackmailing people with ai-cloned voices and likenesses, living his best life.

Has to be.
So if Cardassians canonically argue to flirt, does that mean the way Garak keeps needling Bashir about being augmented, is him trying to say him being superhuman is really hot to him?

"In the future archeologists will look at your bones and tell you were a man."
I'm sorry, but do you have any idea how hard it is to look at someone's bones, and be able to tell if they had feathers? Like sure, you can tell if they were bipedal or not, but trust me, you won't easily be able to prove the presence or absence of feathers.

all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.

I'm a PADI certified diver (Open Water and Nitrous), I was first certified in 2007.
SO MUCH OF THIS POST IS WRONG and sensationalized, check the replies.
We do actually know what causes nitrogen narcosis, and in fact many divers experience its effects at some point. It's a result of breathing certain compressed gases at depth and essentially getting high. Yes, it is extremely dangerous, yes, this is why Advanced Open Water and other advanced certs exist, but no, it's not some weird mystery we haven't unlocked.
My siblings and dad have gotten narc'd to a certain degree (while being cognizant of it), and I'm... relatively sure I've had a touch of the ol' Rapture myself recently in Belize. If you've ever experienced a body high, or the moment your mild edible kicks in, that's how it can feel at the start. Like oh man, I feel great, this dive is crazy, check out these fish, wow that drop-off is wild damn what's down there i wanna go check it out wait where's my uhhhh where's my dive buddy this is more chill than I should probably be okay okay breathe, it's all good, we're gonna go over to our dive buddy, what a cool fish this is, what's my depth, oh 70 feet that's deeper than I'm rated for HERE WE GO BACK ON TRACK (and then on the boat ur like, wow buddy, let's stick closer next time, I was in Dumbass Territory there for a sec)
Anyway
TLDR:
Nitrogen makes you high. Some people experience these effects more strongly than others. Getting high underwater is FUCKING DANGEROUS, and it's spooky enough that you can lose your goddamn mind at depth without making it some oogabooga mystery.
I know people on tumblr looove stories of underwater cave diving, but I haven't seen anyone talk about nitrogen narcosis aka "raptures of the deep"
basically when you want to get your advanced scuba certification (allowing you to go more than 60 feet deep) you have to undergo a very specific test: your instructor takes you down past the 60+ foot threshold, and she brings a little underwater white board with her.
she writes a very basic math problem on that board. 6 + 15. she shows it to you, and you have to solve it.
if you can solve it, you're good. that is the hardest part of the test.
because here's what happens: there is a subset of people, and we have no real idea why this happens only to them, who lose their minds at depth. they're not dying, they're not running out of oxygen, they just completely lose their sense of identity when deep in the sea.
a woman on a dive my instructor led once vanished during the course of the excursion. they were diving near this dropoff point, beyond which the depth exceeded 60 feet and he'd told them not to go down that way. the instructor made his way over to look for her and found a guy sitting at the edge of the dropoff (an underwater cliff situation) just staring down into the dark. the guy is okay, but he's at the threshold, spacing out, and mentally difficult to reach. they try to communicate, and finally the guy just points down into the dark, knowing he can't go down there, but he saw the woman go.
instructor is deep water certified and he goes down. he shines his light into the dark, down onto the seafloor which is at 90 feet below the surface. he sees the woman, her arms locked to her sides, moving like a fish, swimming furiously in circles in the pitch black.
she is hard to catch but he stops her and checks her remaining oxygen: she is almost out, on account of swimming a marathon for absolutely no reason. he is able to drag her back up, get her to a stable depth to decompress, and bring her to the surface safely.
when their masks are off and he finally asks her what happened, and why was she swimming like that, she says she fully, 100% believed she was a mermaid, had always been a mermaid, and something was hunting her in the dark 👍

somehow the poor cops who we were told are simply too understaffed and underpaid because of Woke to deal with 'rampant rising crime' have found the strength to beat the shit out of college students across the whole country for peacefully saying "divest from the country killing innocent palestinians in the tens of thousands"

OK so if you haven't watched the new NatGeo octopus docuseries... go do that.
In watching it I was struck not only by the obvious sensationality of relationships some divers and researchers develop with individual octopuses, but that we do in fact have to start from square one every time because octopus a) have a short life span, and b) do not have cultural/passed down learning. But we do see them communicating with each other, with other marine species, and with human divers on occasion.
This conversation on language itself is fascinating. Please continue. And if you have additional thoughts after watching the NatGeo special... I'd be so curious!
what we really need to drill down on here is whether or not an octopus is intelligent enough to consent to a sexual encounter
and if not how can we change that
