"Yes, absolutely." James nodded in response, still questioning his choices internally with himself. But it'll be okay. Last time was an absolute disaster but it can't go just as badly this time around, right?

"Look, we'll make a nice roast with some mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy. You can handle mashed potatoes and the gravy easy enough I'm sure of it." James assured. It was a fairly simple thing to prepare, he was confident enough to have her preparing those. "I'll be with you getting all the rest of it sorted, so I'll be there to help you through it."

"Riley can't even do that, so I win!" Sweet victory. She had to win something after that one finger incident. Then James suggested helping with dinner.

Oh shit.

"Are you sure? Do I need to remind you the last time I was in your kitchen and tried to cook? Like, I'd love to blame Riley but it was all me."

Boy that set off her excitement. James shook his head as a smile spread across his lips momentarily, admittedly he was a bit amused by it.

"Well I said you were better at baking, not cooking—" No, don't get into it, let's not have a possibility of a taste testing ordeal between his two younger siblings at the dinner table.

"You know what might make his face even greater than admitting that?" Please don't regret this. He waited a moment to gather a reaction before continuing on. "What if, you helped me prepare the next one we do?"

"Yesss!" Victory for the younger sibling! Darcy knew practicing with the Easy Bake Oven as a kid would help her some day.

"Please mention that next family dinner, I wanna see Riley's face when you admit I'm better." Looking at James, he didn't seem as excited as Darcy for this. Probably because he was the decent chef out of the three and Darcy was grateful for that, how boring the family dinners would be if it was only takeout and cookies.

Okay, it sounded good for Darcy anyway.
