Today is the 67th anniversary of the iconic film 12 Angry Men...
Did you know David Tennant was in a production of this play at drama school in 1990, and he used an American accent?
He sure was!
He was Juror 8, the role Henry Fonda portrayed in the film version.
I write more about that here:
...but I intend to do a deeper dive into the play at a future date.
Subscribe for free and stay tuned!

Here's some history of the play, from this Twitter thread which I STRONGLY encourage you to read in its entirety:
"In the early 1950s, TV writer Reginald Rose served as a jury member on a manslaughter case. Inspired by his experience, he wrote a teleplay called 12 Angry Men as a one-hour drama. It aired on CBS in September 1954, directed by Franklin J. Schaffner.
One viewer was Henry Fonda, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Seeing potential for a movie, Fonda got in touch with Rose and the two agreed to co-produce a film adaptation. Fonda did not like the experience and the film was his first and last producer credit.
Around that time, Delbert Mann’s Marty was a huge success. That movie was also adapted from a teleplay and studios were looking for other TV projects to mine. So when Fonda and Rose pitched 12 Angry Men, United Artists snapped it up immediately.
Looking for a suitable director, Fonda approached Sidney Lumet due to his work on TV show Studio One. Lumet was a young filmmaker with a great reputation as a TV director, and jumped at the chance to break into movies.
As part of the deal, Fonda agreed to star as well as co-produce, taking on the role of Juror 8. And both he and Rose agreed to defer their salaries, meaning they wouldn’t make any money unless the movie made money."

I don't think it's really all that hard to understand why they're doing this...not if you get that it's all about the struggle to maintain the cognitive dissonance these sorts have been operating under for years now. A major argument about masks with regards to Covid is this:
"Masks don't work."
But masking has been used to prevent infections of other kinds for decades and decades, and has been proven to do so - which puts them on the horns of a dilemma. The only way to resolve that dilemma (and maintain their cognitive dissonance) is to refuse to wear a mask of any kind.
They've argued masks don't work, you see, so they have to refuse to don any mask, no matter what! Because if they support mask wearing at all, for any reason - their argument about masks being useless against Covid would have to go right out the fucking window.
So these people are nothing but prideful, petulant children. They have to renounce mask wearing - no matter the cost to themselves or to others.
Don Wilson:
"I have noticed a significant increase in general laxity about PPE since COVID masking has been dropped. A significant % of OR staff (esp anesthesia & RTs) not bothering to mask inside actual OR even when sterile fields are open & set up.
Nurses inside OR generally much more consistent (they directly handle & set up sterile equipment).
I’ve seen unmasked anesthesiologists & RTs for emergency CS & gyne cases… I don’t get it. We mask to prevent contamination of open surgical wounds. Just because COVID mask mandates are over doesn’t mean INSIDE an operating room is a mask free zone.
Used to be that it was unthinkable to be unmasked inside an active OR. Even in the hallways during active OR time. It’s a sad commentary on the impact of the antimask stupidity spilling over to areas where it can impact quality & safety of the patient care environment.
I’m just one person who chooses to be fastidious about masking inside the hospital, I can’t take on the entire system. But it’s discouraging to see & I wonder how many patients go on to have nosocomial surgical infections because of relaxed cultures around masking now."

I'm a ridiculous mid-century/MCM collector and user - in other words, if it's mid-century (and not the "American"-style stuff that was also in at the time) I pretty much love it. My friends love to say they feel they're stepping onto the set of Mad Men when they come to visit. Put it this way - WARNING PHOTOBOMB AHEAD - here are some photos of my home, and appliances and kitchenware I regularly use:

My coffeepot(s), toaster, mixer, storage containers and dishes are all from the 1960s, and my barware is stored in my 1960s mirrored bar. My TV sits on a 1959 Telefunken Wein III-U stereo and turntable, which still works. All my desks and furniture are 1950s/1960s, and I use fans, irons - and pretty much everything else - from the decade. And my lamps...ohhh my lamps! I feel that shade is the BOMB! So yeah....that 1963 refrigerator would fit me JUST FINE.

something i've noticed on here is people obsession with comparing every single one of david tennant's recent tv appearance outfits to crowley cos they're black and have stars on them like. bro the guy who picks his clothes probably just went hmm this is a cool jacket he'd look great in that, he's not channeling anything?? esp cos stars actually have not a whole lot of importance in good omens like?? you've got before the beginning and running off to alpha centuari and the astronomy book in his flat and thats is. like idk maybe this is one of those cases where tumblr has latched onto something cos its aesthetic or cool or smthn and so now Everything With Stars In It is now an angel crowley reference like?? no?? david is just wearing that stuff cos it looks good on him and people are kinda being weird about it. he's probably not trying to be crowley. just because he played crowley doesnt mean he is as obsessed as you are.

Welp....
I didn't see The Motive and the Cue (and I'm not a huge fan of Gatiss) but I heard through the theatre grapevine he was magnificent in the role. Which basically implies that no matter who won the award, the field of play was full of incredibly talented actors.
So the way I see it is this: this ticks one more mark of good character in David Tennant's column. He's genuinely happy when good performances get the recognition they deserve.
His ego is not his master, and he doesn't seek attention or demand awards in service to it.

David Tennant’s outfits over the past few events. Such sartorial excellence, I love all these patterns 👌
Edit: Most of these outfits are by Joshua Kane. The kilt in the first picture is by MacGregor and MacDuff.
Edit2: the jacket in the first picture is by Mithridate.
Thanks to @chaoticqueengalaxy and @t-he-art-of-beauty for the help in IDing everything!

In honor of David Tennant's Olivier nomination for Macbeth...
I feel like giving out something special from my collection in celebration of David Tennant's nomination for Macbeth at today's Olivier Awards:
Here's a photo printed in a local newspaper from Long Day's Journey Into Night, a 1994 production David did at the Dundee Rep!
Tumblr media
This was the second time David had starred alongside Edith MacArthur, who famously told David's father Sandy he'd do just that someday (the first time had been in 1992's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, also at the Dundee Rep.)
Here he plays Edmund Tyrone, a consumptive (which you can see from his haggard appearance.)
I wish it was a better quality photo, but ya know....sometimes you have to take what you can get!
