Just when I thought the world couldn't get any smaller. Here I am at work searching on Google images for GM paint schemes for my MG model when the first image I click on happens to be from one of the members of the podcast I was currently listening to.
Max, from what I saw of your Study Hall's Pacific Rim episode (and the photos you post on Tumblr), I figured you must be an aficionado for plastic Gundam models. I used to build a few back in middle school and want to get back into them now after having seen some of your stuff. Do you have any model kits that you would recommend? And while we're on the topic, what's your favorite mobile suit from the entire Gundam franchise?
The High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) line is a great place to start. Kits run between 20-30 bucks, and they’re simple enough that a beginner can figure them out, but they’re also high enough quality that you can turn ‘em into something really gorgeous if you know what you’re doing.
I’m a sucker for the whole GM family. If you’re unfamiliar, they’re the mass-produced grunt troops that the earth forces use, so they’re totally standard issue, while the Gundams are these crazy prototype hot rod mobile suits for ace pilots. Plus, GMs look like little spacemen with mohawks.
Not crazy about the original 0079 design, but the Ground Type, GM Custom, Space Type, Cold Type, Sniper, Jegan… I love all that shit. I keep meaning to force myself to build some actual Gundam kits, of proper Gundams (or maybe something Zeonic). I’ve got a Master Grade GP-03S that I’ll probably work on after I finish my GM Custom, but I’m kind of dreading it because it’s gonna take forever to paint without an airbrush, and I really just do another GM.

This game is amazing and the music in it is fantastic
When you speak I hear silence
Every word a defiance
I can hear, oh I can hear
Think I’ll go where it suits me
Movin’ out to the Country
With everyone, oh everyone
Before we all become one

Fan Question: How long did it take to shoot the live-action scene in “Grounded Vindaloop”?
Answer: The writers came up with the “live action” idea on Saturday, which meant we only had 60 hours to build the set, audition actors, hire a film crew, & shoot this scene. We finished filming at 6pm on Tuesday — just 28 hours before air.
