Desperate for a sense of normalcy, the daughters of two U.S ambassadors and childhood best friends— Emily Prentiss & Maura Isles— convince their parents to let them pursue high education in America. They’re intent on getting out from under their parents’ shadow and starting a life of their own. Expecting to have the time of their lives, they find themselves more isolated than anything due to their social status and inability to relate to their peers.

Hey so question I haven’t seen much fan fic on here about Maya x Carina from station 19. I’m wondering do you know if there is a fic after the incident with Andrew on Greys. How upset Carina was going to talk to Maya. Or like any angsty stuff with Andrews mental health issues affecting Carina and Maya being there for her

Random aside - asks are apparently like proverbial London buses....wait ages for one and then two come along really close together :-D [not that I’ve taken a bus in forever...but if you do, wear a mask/adhere to your local COVID rules </psa>

Umm, not sure I can help you anon, as, well, apart from being in the UK and so not really knowing what happens in the latest seasons of US shows because I’m living on gifs and youtube clips (which are pretty but do make working out what on earth the narrative arc is almost impossible), I’m afraid I don’t watch Greys.

What I do know is that it never occurred to me to look on tumblr for Maya/Carina fic because I went straight to the AO3 tag for the pairing.

Good luck though, hope you find a fic to fill in the gap for you - and if you don’t...well that’s usually what prompted most of us to have our first tentative scribble at a story.... ;-)

Maya winces as the nurse wraps her arm in a bandage.

“Sorry, Miss Bishop,” the nurse, Camila, says.

“No need,” Maya says. “Is there anyway you guys could refrain from telling my girlfriend-”

“You’re not smooth, Captain Bishop,” Doctor Bailey says from the doorway, interrupting Maya.

Maya purses her lips together. “I don’t want her to worry,” she explains.

“Mhm,” Bailey says. “If this were Ben, I definitely would want to know.”

“It’s just a few burns,” Maya says.

“On your arms, legs, and neck,” Bailey points out. “From a call that went south when there was an explosion. It very well could’ve been way more than this.”

“It’s what you do as Captain,” Maya tells Bailey. “I got my team out of there in time and I took the most hits for them. They’re my family.”

“So is Carina,” Bailey says.

“I’m fine, Bailey,” Maya says.

“Bambina,” Carina says as she appears in the doorway. “What the hell?”

Bailey mouths, “Good luck,” to Maya before excusing herself.

“Carina, it’s nothing,” Maya says.

“It doesn’t look like nothing,” Carina says. “Ben came in and told me about the call. Why didn’t you have them page me here?”

“I didn’t want you to worry,” Maya tells her.

“Too late,” Carina huffs. “Has Avery been in here to examine the burns?” She asks Camila.

Camila nods. “He told me to wrap them and we’re sending her home with some cream. She’s to apply it three times a day and she has a follow-up appointment with Doctor Avery in a couple of weeks.”

“Thank you,” Carina says, offering Camila a small smile. “I can finish wrapping her up.”

Camila hands the wrap to Carina and tells Maya to feel better before leaving the room.

“Bambina, you can’t hide these things from me,” Carina tells Maya. “If you’re hurt, I need to know.”

Maya sighs. “Baby-”

“I worry about you all of the time,” Carina says, her voice wavering. “Sometimes it makes my stomach hurt so bad, especially when you take longer than usual to reply. And then today I had to find out from Ben that you were hurt. What if it was worse, huh? What, were you just gonna hide it from me?”

“I’m sorry,” Maya says defeatedly. “I didn’t know that you worry about me all of the time.”

“Of course I do, Maya,” Carina says, gently wrapping Maya’s leg. “Sometimes I’ll text Ben if you don’t respond right away, just to make sure you’re okay.”

Maya smiles. “No one’s ever worried about me like that,” she admits.

“Well, you have me now,” Carina says. “I’m not like the other people in your life, Maya. I care for you more than I can hold in my heart. The love I have for you seeps through my bones and through the toughest parts of me. I’m not in this for the short term, bambina. You’re everything to me.”

“You’re everything to me,” Maya says, reaching for Carina’s hand. “I’ll do better. I’ll be more careful.”

Carina nods. “I’m proud of you,” she tells Maya. “For being a great captain, for always trying your best. You don’t have to do better, Maya. You’re already great. I just don’t want you to feel like you have to hide your hurt to protect me.”

“Come here,” Maya says, opening her arms.

“You have third-degree burns, Maya,” Carina says.

“Come here,” Maya says again.

Carina sets the wrap aside and gives into Maya. She practically falls into her arms and lays her head on Maya’s chest.

“You’ve got me, baby,” Maya whispers. “You’ve got all of me. I promise I will always try my hardest to come home to you.”

“Those sound like vows,” Carina says, a smile on her face.

Someday, Maya thinks.

She kisses the top of Carina’s head.
