when you’re a kid and you’re feeling weird and detached and you fall asleep in the late afternoon with school clothes still on and you wake up and its dark and dinner is almost done and time feels like a thick jelly

It’s just a teenager thing they say, but I don’t think every teenager thinks about the different ways they can kill themselves on the daily

Gen Z culture is not giving up.
Gen Z culture is getting up in the morning feeling like your bones are made of lead. It’s skipping eating and brushing your teeth and trudging our the door without checking to see if you need more pencils in your bag because you can’t seem to muster up the energy to care. It’s whiling away the school day by staring at the wall and wondering if you’ll go blind by not blinking but thinking, “Whatever,” and continuing to stare. It’s coming home and immediately going to bed, because you’re just so damn tired. It’s lying to the therapist that you really do need and telling them that you’re getting better, really, when in reality you’re planning exactly how to kill yourself in your head. But you don’t say anything, because your parents work full time and would undoubtedly go into massive debt were you hospitalized. It’s the uncomfortable silence as your mom talks about how much she’d hate herself if one of her children were gay while you shift in your seat and try not to cry.
Gen Z culture is a lack of hope.
But Gen Z culture is also getting up a few years later and being okay. It’s laughing with your friends about the latest meme that you’ll forget about in a month and just feeling so lucky that you have them in your life. It’s looking in the mirror and loving the person that you see, because they deserve to be loved. It’s turning off the news every once in a while so you don’t get too worried because this, too, will pass. It’s looking back and wishing you could tell yourself everything would be okay.
Because it was.
And it will be.
