XZero Week Extra Day: Spy (Free Prompt)
Axl had noticed something.
He was sure it wasn't just a feeling.
As of late, X and Zero had been leaving HQ a lot more, it was true that they weren't called in for missions as of late, but something felt...off.
Yes, he was aware that they often went out together, but recently they've been going out of base more often, for longer periods of time.
He was sure of it.
They had to be dating.
Of course, he talked about all of this with Palette, who had more or less the same suspicions.
Together, they had set up a little mission.
The next day, they'd both take a pocket camera with them and follow X and Zero around, if anything special happened, they'd snap a few photos.
They didn't have much of a plan, actually.
----------------------------------------------------------
Axl peeked his head out from the wall, making sure that his targets couldn't see him.
The corridor was empty, he was in the clear.
"Phew!" He let out a huge sigh of relief, every second he was on the edge of his seat, at the risk of being spotted.
Carefully, he walked across the corridor, trying to minimize the sound of his footsteps as much as possible.
He had reached the end of the corridor, peeking his head out of another wall, his targets had just exited the base.
Now, he was in a bit of an impasse, he could follow them out of Maverick Hunter HQ, but at the risk of being spotted by anyone on his way out, or he could wait it out to avoid suspicion, but at the cost of losing track of his targets.
He needed to play it smart, and quickly, but how...?
Screw it, he thought, thinking of a strategic plan was going to take too long, without hesitation, he dashed straight for the door.
He didn't care if he was spotted by anyone else but them, he wasn't a ninja, he just had one objective.
Photos.
That was all he needed.
Shoot, he'd lost sight of them.
He ran and ran, stopping on a random sidewalk to catch his breath, surprisingly, his targets were nearby.
Suddenly, he heard a beep.
He took out his mobile phone, it was ringing very loudly, Axl sighed, bracing for impact.
"Axl, what the HELL were you thinking?! Alia called, asked if you had anything to do with them since you decided to FREAKIN' DASH OUT OF THAT DOOR AFTER THEY LEFT, DO YOU REALIZE THAT IF ANYONE DECIDES TO CALL ONE OF THEM, WE'RE SCREWED?!" Yelled an angry Palette through the phone.
"Hey, Palette, shhhh, they're nearby, any louder and they might overhear this conversation." Axl whispered.
He could hear Palette sigh, "If only you were this serious during missions."
"But this is a mission we're both taking part in, you wanted to do this."
"This poor excuse of a 'mission' was your idea, stupid." She said, she wasn't yelling, but very, very angry.
"Okay, but you still wanted to help out, quite enthusiastically, I might add."
Palette groaned, "Okay, fine, you win. Anyway, you've got your pocket camera, right?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Anyways, I think you should focus on snapping those pictures."
"Right, I'll call once I snap a few pictures, they're stopping to have a conversation, I'll fill you in if something special happens."
"Right, thankfully your idiotic move gave me a reason to head out, I told them I was going after you, I might be able to catch up soon."
Beeeeep.
Axl hid behind a lamppost, trying to listen in.
"Hey Zero, what do you say we stop for something to eat after this? I'm getting a bit hungry."
"Sure, what about that cafe nearby? Roast and Relax?"
"Sounds great!"
Axl quickly took out his phone and messaged Palette.
"They're headed to Roast and Relax."
Send.
Palette responded faster than he thought.
"Roger, surprisingly I'm nearby, I headed from a different route, thankfully."
"Alright, I think I can see it from my location, I'll use my Copy Chip to look like a regular civilian Reploid, then I'll just casually walk there."
Send.
"Right, see you there! :D"
Axl was grateful that he had a Copy Chip, staying how he was is too big of a risk.
He felt his body change, in a flash he turned into a random civillian.
He casually walked past his targets, going for an outdoor seat when he reached the cafe.
Just a few moments later a random Reploid girl walked up to him, "Hey, you got here faster than I expected."
"Hm? Who are you?" Axl asked, this wasn't anyone he recognized.
The girl sighed, "Axl, it's me, Palette, don't forget that I'm a new-gen too."
Axl was a little shocked, and a little embarrassed, "Riiiight, sorry about that-" He paused, "wait, how'd you know it was me?"
"Random guess, if I was wrong I'd be in an awkward situation I didn't ask for." She shrugged.
They both shifted their gazes to X and Zero, coincidentally (and rather conveniently), they also went for an outdoor seat.
Palette sat down next to Axl and they both watched watched X and Zero intensely from a distance.
The waiter came to X and Zero's table, due to the heavy chatter in the atmosphere, they couldn't hear anything they said, but they were sure the good stuff would come when their food arrived.
After taking their own orders, Axl and Palette continued spying on X and Zero, starting a random conversation with the other occasionally in order to not look like creeps.
After a while, X and Zero's food came.
A delicious, creamy slice of chocolate cake.
"Whoah, that looks...good." Palette gazed in awe.
"Palette, you're drooling." Axl giggled.
"W-what? You saw nothing!" She wiped her mouth, embarrassed.
They turned to look at X and Zero, who were starting to eat their cake.
Axl had his camera prepared, just in case.
And then it happened.
Jokingly, X held up a small piece of cake to Zero's mouth using a small spoon, although embarrassed, Zero opened his mouth as X put it in his mouth.
Click, snap.
"I got one!" Axl squealed excitedly.
"Shhh, they'll hear you!"
There was much more, X placing his hand on Zero's, drinking a milkshake from the same glass using two straws, Axl and Palette took pictures of it all.
Eventually, their own food came, they golfed it all down in a matter of minutes.
But then came a problem.
"Uhhh, what are we gonna do about the bill?" Palette asked.
"Shoot...you got money?" Axl asked, he didn't have a good feeling about this.
"No, that's why I asked you." Palette said, worry settling in her face.
"Shoot."
"Is there anything we can help you with?" Came a voice from right in front of them.
Oh no, Axl thought, it's them.
"I-it's nothing!" Palette stuttered, "we were just discussing the bill, that's all."
Her body was tensing, she didn't know what to do, in a state of panic, she accidentally dropped her camera.
She reached out to grab it, but X's hand reached it before hers could.
"It's alright, I find it nice to help out," X smiled, "here you go-"
Oh.
Oh no.
Axl saw the look on X's face as he saw the pictures, a mix of shock, confusion, and worry.
Zero took a look as well, a while later, he glared at them, on the verge of shouting, "Who are you two? Explain yourselves this instant." He demanded.
They sighed, there was no hiding it.
"A-Axl?! Palette?!"
"Look, it's not what it looks like-"
"It was Axl's idea." Palette said.
"Why'd you do that?!" Axl yelled at her.
Freakin' snitch.
"You two planned this out, didn't you?" X asked, he seemed very angry.
"Sigh...yes." Axl gave in, Palette left him with no other choice.
"You two are going to be in a lot of trouble when we get back." Zero told them.
Thankfully, they were still nice enough to pay for the bill.
----------------------------------------------------------
"Look, we didn't have any malicious intent, it was just for fun." Axl tried to reason.
"Yeah, we just wanted to know what you two were up to." Palette pitched in.
"Sigh, we'll let you off as long as you delete those photos." Zero told them.
"Fine..." Axl grumbled.
"W-we just wanted to tell you, we support your relationship! We won't tell anyone at base, at all, we promise." Palette said.
"Thanks." X said, "You still owe us for the bill, though."

XZero Week Day 7: Distance
For the longest time, Zero never really had anyone to call a close friend, or a friend. Period.
It's not like he was brushed aside by others, he just kept a distance from his fellow Hunters.
Like a gap in between him and them.
He could hold up with team missions just fine, but other than that, he'd prefer spending time by himself, there was also the fact that he seemed to have difficulty opening up to others and casually socializing in general.
Until he met X.
He first thought of X as just a trainee, a rookie, nothing less, nothing more.
Like the rest of the Hunters, he could interact with X just fine, just not outside of his duty to train him.
There was also a gap between him and X, one that kept a large distance seperating them.
However, that began to change.
He could see that X was making an effort to get to know him better outside of training, offers to go somewhere out of base together during breaks, or asking if he'd like to tag along on casual errands.
He started off politely rejecting X's offers, but he was so persistent that Zero finally decided to give in and spend time with him.
The gap started to rumble.
Whenever X tried to start up a conversation, Zero responded quickly and shortly, again, he wasn't trying to act cold, but casual conversations weren't exactly a strong point of his.
However, a certain conversation would be the actual start of their friendship.
"So, why exactly did you become a Hunter?"
"I just really didn't have a lot of other options."
"...Ah, I see. If you don't mind me asking, Zero, why exactly would you say that?"
"Well, I didn't exactly have a purpose, I didn't have any memories before being activated at Maverick Hunter HQ, and Commander Sigma just offered me a position as a Hunter, and that's about it."
"...Oh," X said, he was concerned, did he accidentally ask a sensitive question?
Although Zero wasn't really good at socializing, his experience with reading the expressions and body language of opponents were enough for him to tell that X was worried.
"My lack of memories don't bother me much, I'm satisfied with where I am right now." He quickly added.
"O-okay, that's good to hear." X smiled a little.
Although X was no longer worried, the conversation was definitely at an awkward spot.
Feeling a little bad for what had happened earlier, Zero decided it was his turn to keep the conversation going.
"So anyways, X." He started, "What about you? Why'd you become a Hunter?"
X's eyes lit up like a spark, Zero was actually trying to talk with him casually! This was great, he could feel his mechanical heart beat faster from the excitement.
The gap started to nudge a little.
After calming down, X was able to find the words to answer Zero's question.
"Well, I just want to protect people, y'know? I want to be strong enough to fight for a peaceful world, so that no-one has to suffer from the virus or any other threats in the world."
Zero simply nodded, that dream of his felt so distant, so unreal.
Zero had trained several Hunters before, he had asked them all this question as well, all of them responded similarly to X.
However, most of them had quit after a few missions, those who remained had the burning passion in their hearts slowly put out, doing missions because of a dream just simply became doing missions because it was their duty and they were getting paid for it.
Part of Zero thought that X would be no different, however, another part of him thought that he was actually sincere about it.
The gap began to move.
Not only was he repeatedly asking Zero to hang out with him, but it was the fact that he was so open, so willing to talk about whatever was on his mind.
The way he'd enthusiastically talk about striving for peace, how his eyes would light up talking about a world where there was no conflict.
Slowly, Zero began to hang out with X not because he wanted to be polite, but he was genuinely interested in him as a person.
The gap began to close a little more.
Then that day came.
"Zero, can I talk to you about something?"
"Oh, sure, what's going on?"
"I...I've been overhearing things that the other Hunters have been saying about me, that I'm weak, that my pacifism is a bad thing, that I'm just deadweight."
Zero could see where this was headed.
"...and what if they're right? I mean, compared to the other Hunters, I feel so small, I feel-"
"X, stop right there."
"Zero?"
"Y'know what? Don't listen to them, you're just a rookie, of course you'd be weaker compared to others, you just don't have the experience they have yet, that'll change."
The gap was moving closer and closer to the other side at a steady rate.
"And also, your pacifism isn't a bad trait, contrary to what they said, your pacifism...that's what makes you special."
Before he knew it, the words were spilling right out of his mouth.
"Your pacifism is what intrigued me, actually, I thought that a pacifist could never make a good Hunter, that their ideals and hesitation to fight would only be an obstacle. However, I was wrong."
He paused, not knowing what just came out of his mouth, he sighed, might as well let it all out, he's been so open to him, so he should try to be the same.
"Pacifism can drive people toward their goals, I've seen that happen with you, you knew you weren't as powerful as everyone else, but you kept going forward because you wanted to achieve that dream of yours, and I...I admire that."
X was shocked, sure, he'd been spending time with Zero, but he'd never seen him so honest, so open.
"So X, don't be ashamed of who you are, you have flaws, sure, but from what I've seen, they're outweighed by a number of positive traits, traits that can make you stronger."
The gap was only a few inches away from connection.
"Zero...thank you, I'll do even better from now on." X smiled.
The gap was finally gone, there was no more seperation.
Zero had finally found a friend in X.

XZero Week Day 6: Touch
Lift.
Slide.
Zero grunted.
Lift.
Slide.
His body was tensing up.
Lift.
Slide.
"X, could you please stop that?" He asked, not bothered to hide his annoyance.
"It's not my fault your hair's so soft and nice to touch, blame your creator." X said as he continued to gently lift strands of Zero's thick hair into his palm, letting them fall back down, rinse and repeat.
Zero sighed, he didn't like the idea of his hair being touched, in fact, he never liked his hair at all, it made him look too flashy, didn't have any benefits, and was really just a nuisance to him.
However...
He'd voiced his thoughts about just getting rid of the ponytail before, it was detachable, after all, but X was highly against it, the two argued about it for days and eventually, X won the long-running debate.
"Believe me, you say you want to get rid of it, but you don't, that hair is a part of you and you can't deny it. I won't stop you from getting rid of the hair, see for yourself."
And just like that, the arguement ended, and Zero had gotten rid of his ponytail, sure enough, X was right, something just felt...off, within the single week that he didn't have his ponytail on, it felt awkward, people were staring at him, and his back felt colder than usual.
So he gave in and re-attached it, much to X's delight.
He still hated his ponytail, he still hated it being touched, but he never thought about getting rid of it ever again.
However, he had to admit, after awhile, X stroking his hair felt kind of...nice.
X was very gentle with his hair, no tugging, no yanking...just touching it softly and gently.
He just had this certain vibe to him, Zero wasn't sure what, but whatever it was, Zero felt he could trust him with anything.
But it wasn't only that, X touching his hair gave him a sense of comfort and ease, a reassurance that everything was alright, that there wasn't a worry in the world.
That he could just relax for a while, enjoying every moment with him.
"...Zero? Hello? Earth to Zero!"
"O-oh, uh, sorry about that, I zoned out, didn't I?"
"Yeah, you did," X paused, moving his palm away from Zero's thick and bushy ponytail, "Listen, Zero, if you're uncomfortable with me touching your ponytail, it's fine, I'll stop-"
"Don't."
"Huh?" X stared at him in confusion.
"I said, don't." Zero said, his back still facing X, "It's alright if you want to do so, it doesn't really bother me." he told him.
"But earlier you said-" X stopped, then grinned a little mischievously, "Oh, I get it, you like it, don't you?"
"I never said anything about liking it, it just doesn't bother me." Zero lied, trying to hide any sense of comfort he had with the idea of X touching his hair.
"Liar." X smiled as he started helping himself to toying with more of Zero's hair.
"...Fine, I'll admit that I like it," Zero said, while trying, and failng, to hold back a smile, "-only you're allowed to do this, though." He quickly added.
"Fine by me, I'll use this to my full advantage." X teased him while braiding his hair.
"As you should." Zero said.
And they both sat there in peace, in Zero's room, with not a worry in the world.
Safe, with each other by their sides.

XZero Week Day 5: Comfort
X was bored, he was sitting at his desk with nothing to do, I mean, peace was-no, is great, no wars, no bloodshed, just...peace, a time where everything felt comfortable.
However, it left him wondering about what to do most of the time, Zero was training as always, but X didn't feel like joining today.
He was scanning his desk when he spotted something below a stack of papers and books, curious, he carefully took it out of the pile.
He wiped dust off the cover, was this his? If it was, he clearly hadn't used it in a long time.
He opened the book, suddenly all sorts of memories came flooding back.
How could he have forgotten? This was his journal!
There was no mistake, the handwriting, the slowly aging paper, it was the journal he kept ages back then.
He remembered the day he got it, he'd always wanted to keep a journal, he was super excited to start writing his first entry.
It started off fine, he'd write daily about his thoughts and experiences of the day, but after the wars started, days became weeks, then months, once a year, and eventually, he just forgot about it.
He started re-reading some of the entries, skimming through some of the pages.
"Day 1: I finally started a journal! I'm going to try to write in this every day, there isn't a lot going on right now, but that's good, it means everything's fine."
"Day 45: I became a Maverick Hunter today, I've just started so I'm going to need some training, I was also introduced to Zero today, he's a bit cold, but I hope we can be friends!"
He smiled at that entry, recalling the first time he talked to Zero, he really seemed distant back then, that had changed, of course, and he's glad it did.
"Day 60: Commander Sigma's a really nice person, I look up to him, he knows what to do in every given situation and never hesitates if it leads to the right thing, he gives good pep talks, too!"
Commander Sigma...a phrase he hasn't said for a long time, and probably never will ever again.
"Day 120: I've been training for a few months now, Zero's a really good mentor, despite the fact that I'm still not too good in combat, he's never given up on me, I think he's a little bit more friendly, too, which is great!"
"Day 146: Sometimes I overhear some of the other Hunters badmouthing me, things like 'he's such a pushover', or 'he's such a damn pacifist, why does Zero have hope in him?' And..I guess they're right, what if I really am not enough? What if I am weak?"
"Day 148: While training today, I finally had the courage to tell Zero about what I've been overhearing, and my worries. Surprisingly, he's very good at comforting, he seems distant, but I guess there's more to him than that."
X still remembers his training sessions with Zero, not only because of all the skills he'd learned, but because of the numerous times Zero had comforted him when he was unsure of himself, or encouraged him when he felt weak and small.
"Don't listen to them, X, you're not a pushover, you're just inexperienced, as you train more, that'll change."
"Yes, you're a pacifist, but how is that a bad trait? Pacifism doesn't mean you can't fight, if anything, it's a reason as to why you should, you fight so no-one else has to, to uphold the peace you strive for, so don't let it bring you down."
These memories were very fond to X, he found comfort in them. So much has happened since then, some good, some bad.
But as long as there was peace, he could create new memories, and when new hardships came, he could look back on them, to comfort him, to remind him that moments like that were worth fighting for.
X closed the journal and left his room, walking to the training room.
"Hey, Zero, are you up for a friendly sparring match?"
"Sure thing, we'll see if we can break that tie record." Zero smirked.
X decided that he'll use these peaceful moments to the fullest to create fond memories.
And what better place to start than with the person he cared for the most?

XZero Week Day 4: Dream
"X?!"
"X! I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN TO! X-"
"X!!!"
Zero woke up with a gasp, sweating all over.
He looked around, relieved, stupid nightmares waking him up at night.
He let out a sigh, these nightmares...he'd get them occasionally, they were often the same thing, blood, screams and bodies, accompanied by a short, yet sharp headache.
However, as of late, the nightmares seem to have turned into something different.
Nightmares...about him suddenly waking up in an empty room, with nothing but a lifeless body in front of him.
X's body, to be more precise.
The blood dripping down his own hands, X's badly beaten-up-beyond-repair body, the distant cackling of a madman, it all seemed too real...
Zero shook his head, "forget it, that'll never happen, it's all just a stupid nightmare full of stupid things."
These things never really shook him up anymore, but when it came to X, it was different.
X was the most important person in his life, brutally murdering him was the last thing anyone would expect him to do.
So, why?
Why did he have these nightmares?
He remembered that mysterious man he saw once in a dream, he could still remember his words very clearly...
"After him! He's my nemesis! Our rivalry is what gives me motivation in life!"
"Now go, destroy him! That's an order!"
Could it be, that...
Ugh, why was this on his mind again? He told himself that it didn't matter, regardless of who that man was, he knew he wouldn't listen to him anytime soon.
X mattered to him the most, and he was not going to let some stupid man in his dreams tell him what to do.
Because no matter what, he'd always protect X, fight by his side.
And that surely is something that will never change.

XZero Week Day 3: Valentine
It was a bright and sunny morning, X had just woken up. Sleepily, he he got out of his recharger pod, he felt like he was forgetting something today, but what...?
He took a look at his desk calendar, and there it was.
Circled with a bright red marker was what he was forgetting.
2/14, Valentine's Day.
With that, he was now fully awake, how could he have forgotten?
Quickly, he got ready to start off the day and headed out.
"Right, off to the florist!" He said to himself, he was in quite a rush, running through the crowded streets and repeatedly saying "sorry" and "excuse me" while bumping into random strangers.
After what seemed like forever (in what was actually 15 minutes), He reached his destination.
Painted in a bright pink was a sign of the building he'd been looking for.
Lance's Flower Shop.
He'd often stop by here to buy flowers to keep in his bedroom, he was one of those people who thought that they made nice room decorations, he wasn't wrong.
X stopped for a moment to catch his breath, then he opened the door and stepped inside.
The smell of fresh flowers filled the room, here X felt at peace.
There seemed to be quite a lot of people inside, it was Valentine's Day after all.
He walked over to the counter, greeted by the very familliar figure.
"Ahhh, X, welcome back!" Lance waved, "What can I get you today?"
"Oh, hey Lance," X smiled, "Um, if possible, could I get a bouquet...?"
"Oho, a bouquet, hm? Good choice! It's Valentine's, after all, we've got a 20% discount for all bouquets! What's it gonna be? Roses? Tulips? Daisies?" He asked excitedly.
"I-I'll go for roses, thanks." X said, he'd known Lance for quite some time, but he was still sometimes a little shocked by his eccentric character.
"Right! Roses it is, then!" He grinned.
Shortly afterwards, Lance handed him a beautiful bouquet of red roses, he thanked him and paid for the bouquet (and told him to keep the change).
"Ah, X, if I may, who are you planning to hand that to?" Lance asked.
"Oh, this?" X glanced at the bouquet in his hands, "I'm planning to give it to someone who means a lot to me." He gave a small smile and left.
Lance frowned at that unsatisfying answer, but brushed it off, not everyone wanted to reveal that special someone, after all.
----------------------------------------------------------
Zero sighed, it was early in the morning and the local bakery had run out of chocolate cupcakes.
He never really understood the appeal of celebrations liks this, nor was he familliar with human culture, but he'd done his research just for this special day.
"Damnit, I was so sure they'd have some..." Zero kicked a pebble in defeat, "he really likes sweet things, too..."
He was about to walk back to Maverick Hunter HQ when an idea struck him.
He remembered what Layer had told him the day before, "W-well, other than chocolates, people often give bouquets during Valentine's Day, i-if that helps, um, roses in particular are a very popular choice."
Looking back, her face was unusually red, but Zero brushed it off, maybe she was thinking of someone for Valentine's Day?
Suddenly, a certain store came to mind, he'd walked by a few times before, but had never really visited the place.
A while later, he reached a store with a sign coated in a bright pink.
Lance's Flower Shop.
"Is this it?' He wondered. Reluctantly, he stepped inside.
The sight of flowers was a very calming sight, it made him feel at peace, they also reminded him of...
Zero shook his head, he shouldn't bring back those painful memories, that'd only bring him down.
He walked over to the counter, greeted by a tall, green Reploid.
"Welcome! What can I-" the Reploid's jaw dropped, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"Oh, Welcome, mister Z-Zero." He felt very intimidated, what was the famous A-Rank Hunter doing in his small flower shop?
Trying to sound as friendly as possible, Zero forced a smile, "Relax, just call me Zero, I'm not on a mission today, just here to buy some flowers." He reassured him.
"R-right," The Reploid stuttered, trying to ease himself to sound as professional as possible, "Okay then, what can I get for you, Zero?' That was better.
"Well..." He started, recalling what Layer had said, "I'd like a bouquet, please, with red roses if possible."
"S-sure, wait a moment, please."
A few moments later, Zero was holding a beautiful bouquet in his hands, while the Reploid had that shiny change on his palm.
"Thank you for the purchase." The Reploid said.
"Yeah, I should thank you for the flowers..."
"Lance, it's Lance."
"Right, I should've guessed, thank you for the flowers, Lance."
And with that Zero walked off, Lance sighed, he wasn't expecting that at all, now, he wondered, how would he be able to use this incident as publicity?
----------------------------------------------------------
X was in his room, the bouquet laying on his desk, he was wondering when he could give it to him, he thought about it long and hard, perhaps he should just head over to Zero's room, and if he wasn't there, X could just leave it outside his door.
X got the bouquet and headed for the door, better now than later, he supposed.
Slowly, he opened the door...
"Z-ZERO?!"
"X?!"
They looked at the other's hands, coming to a realization of how coincidental this was.
They both stared at each other in shock, and that shock slowly turned into awkward silence.
"...So...I guess we had the same idea, huh?" X said.
"I guess we did." Zero responded, visibly embarrassed.
They both stood there, awkwardness hanging in the air.
"Well, I guess we could call this a trade, then." X chuckled.
"I suppose it is." Zero smiled.
They both handed over their bouquets to one another, at that point, the awkwardness turned into the urge to laugh, and laugh they did.
After they had calmed down, there was one final trade to be done.
"Happy Valentine's Day, X."
Happy Valentine's Day, Zero."

XZero Week Day 2: Blue
"Blue can represent depth, trust, loyalty, sensitivity and sincerity."
Was what Palette had told Zero after reading an article on colors on the Internet.
Zero had never really thought about symbolism all that much, to him, colors were colors, nothing more, nothing less.
...However, looking back, all those things did remind him of X.
Which made him wonder, Why did X's creator paint him blue? Did he intend to follow the symbolism? Or was it just a coincidence?
Later that day, he browsed the Internet himself in his room at the base, he wasn't particularly fond of the Internet, he found it to be a waste of time, however, something urged him to find type on that keyboard...
"The symbolism of the color red"
Zero didn't know much about X's creator, however, part of him thought that X's color scheme was intentional, that Dr. Light had wanted X to represent so many great things.
However, he also wondered, what did HIS creator intend for him to be?
Snapping back into reality, he pressed enter.
Less than a second later, his eyes were fixed on he first thing he saw on that screen.
"Red can symbolize rage, anger, wrath, danger, malice..."
Not wanting to go any further, he looked away from the computer.
Anger, malice, wrath...
Were those the very things his creator wanted him to represent?
He sighed, "it's just some stupid stuff on the Internet, don't let it bother you." He told himself.
But then he remembered when he first became a Hunter, people were staring at him, running from him, whispering things...
He couldn't recall why, but it didn't bother him at the time.
Then came the nightmares, the bodies scattered around him, the (theoretical) blood dripping down his hands, Sigma's haunting screams...
...Was that really all his doing?
He remembered his confrontation with Sigma at Final Weapon, how he talked about Zero being a Maverick...but was what he said true?
Right then and there, he heard a knock.
"Zero? Do you mind letting me in, please? I've been knocking for awhile. " He could hear X from behind the door.
Slightly embarrased that he didn't notice earlier, he walked over to the door to let X in.
"Sorry about that, X, I was a bit distracted." Zero said.
"Oh, it's fine, I don't think I've ever heard of you being distracted, though, is everything alright?" X asked, genuinely showing concern.
"Yeah, everything's fine, don't worry about me." Zero reassured him.
X looked away from Zero for a momemt and caught a glimpse of his still-active computer on his desk.
"I don't think I've ever seen you browse the Internet casually before either." X chuckled.
"Ah, that- that's nothing, I-"
"Zero, it's okay," X interrupted him, "it's nothing suspicious, right?" He grinned.
Slowly, X walked over to the computer, "The symbolism of the color red, huh? What's got you so interested in that all of a sudden?"
"Okay, fine, Palette was talking about this article she found about colors and symbolism, and..." he trailed off, pausing a bit.
"...And?" X asked.
"And when she got to blue, it...reminded me of you, depth, trust, loyalty, sensitivity...It was like Dr. Light wanted you to symbolize those very things, and so I got a bit curious about the color red." He admitted.
X blushed a little, then he looked at his best friend, a bit troubled by something.
"Zero? What's wrong? You can tell me-"
Then something hit him.
He took another look at the computer screen, what was there that bothered him so much?
Then he read it, All those traits...Was that what troubled him so much?
"Zero," X said firmly. "I just want to let you know, you aren't any of that."
Zero looked at him, "I... I know that, it's just...was that what my creator intended for me to be like? I keep having these nightmares, about me killing all of these Reploids, how I even scarred Sigma, and what if that was me?"
X gently put his hand on Zero's shoulder, "It's just a nightmare, Zero, don't let it bother you, it never did before, why now?" He told him, "Besides, just because you're a certain color doesn't mean that color represents you, your creator may have been a bad person with bad intentions, but you're not your creator, Zero."
"X...thank you." Zero smiled, X was such a good person, he really looked up to him.
"Plus, there's more, look here." X shifted his gaze to the computer.
Curious, Zero looked at the screen.
"Red can also represent strength, leadership and determination." He smiled, "To me, you're all those things, Zero, I'm sure others think the same as well."
Zero looked at the computer screen, then looked at X, all that worry he had earlier, it just seemed to vanish and shift to ease and comfort.
"So I'll say it again, Zero, your creator may have wanted you to be all of those bad things, but if anything, you're not that, you're much better than that, so just remember that, alright?" X told him.
Zero blushed a little, much to X's surprise.
"And I'll say this again, X," He smiled.
"Thank you."

XZero Week Day 1: Casual
Zero was never one to act casual around the Hunter Base, everyone knew that, he was professional and to the point towards everyone.
However, everyone noticed that there was one exception.
His name was X.
It was obvious, from how nicer he seemed to be towards him, how he was one of the few he'd spend time with outside of missions or work.
To Zero, X was special, and X found himself feeling the same way.
They both remembered the day they met each other very clearly, X had just become a Hunter, and Zero was tasked to train him.
Zero first treated him like he did with everyone else, but over time, something seemed to had changed.
Zero was very intruiged when it came to X, he had first seen his kindness as a huge flaw that could cost him a lot in the long run, but soon came to appreciate it, it was what made him so special, after all.
And for X, he looked up to Zero in a lot of ways, he was nowhere near as powerful as him, nor as experienced at the time, but everytime he felt discouraged, Zero was able to lift his spirits up.
That was how their friendship started, and from there it only began to grow deeper.
The Maverick Wars had brought them so much sorrow, grief, frustration...But they kept on going, kept on moving forward, they had to, so much depended on them.
However, they also depended on each other to stay strong.
Zero always motivated X to get back up whenever he was brought down, despite how he always cried and hesitated, Zero never gave up on him, never looked down on him, and just pushed him to do better.
When Zero lost Iris, X comforted him and grieved alongside him, told him everything would be alright and that nothing like that would happen again, if one had a problem, they could confide in the other, if one was brought down, the other would help them back up.
They shared a special bond, one that was unique, that's what made their bond different from their bonds with anyone else.

And I'm finally done with the first prompt! Ahhhh why is it so hard for me to describe how special their bond is when it's the very thing that made me ship them?
I guess it didn't really fit the prompt, but I guess I just wanted to point out that they are more comfortable with each other than anyone else.
