Axolotls have those feathery looking things on their heads? Those aren't just fancy decorations, they're actually external gills for underwater breathing! They kind of look like fancy party favors, don't they?

Unlike most salamanders, axolotls are neotenic, which means they stay in their adorable larval stage their whole life. So, they basically never lose their cute little tadpole features.

Axolotls have some seriously impressive regenerative abilities. They can regrow limbs, parts of their heart and brain, and even their spinal cords! Talk about Wolverine-level healing :0

Axolotls can actually see underwater with their eyelids closed! They have special light receptors beneath their skin that help them navigate even in dim environments.

Those little pink things near an axolotl's mouth aren't actually a permanent smile. They're actually tiny organs called chemoreceptors that help them taste and smell in the water. Yum, I guess :)

Axolotls might seem clumsy, but they're surprisingly good swimmers! They use their strong tails to propel themselves gracefully through the water. They can even walk on the bottom of the tank with their little legs.
