Most days, Flint was convinced the rooftop was his only solace, an irony that was not lost upon him, given that he lived all the way in the basement. It was the place he brought his guitar, where he could easily clear his head while he watched the sun rise. Normally he was alone, able to spend a few hours before people wandered up, but when Wyatt appeared behind him and sat down quietly, Flint made no move to put the instrument down. “Good morning, Miss Dayton,” he spoke in a soft voice. “Fancy meeting you here.”

wyatt smiled as he continued to play, glad he didn’t stop as many people would have.”good morning. didn’t expect to see anyone see anyone out here this early.” she was on the roof very early almost everyday but rarely saw anyone. she liked the peace in the morning. usually she would be a little annoyed when someone disturbed that peace but not this time.

“oh shut up.” she rolled her eyes with a laugh. “you mean all these treats aren’t dinner?” wyatt joked, gesturing toward the box.

river raised an eyebrow at her and smiled fondly. “ohh i do like the sound of that.” he hummed as he played with her hair. “i guess i could do you do that favour.” he teased.

“oh is that so? you’d be doing me a favour?” she teased him back. “i think you’d have a good time if you ditched work to hangout with a pretty girl.” she smirked, planting a quick kiss on his cheek.

river pulled away from the kiss and caressed her cheek lovingly. “this means so much, thank you darling.” he whispered as he looked down at the gift with a big smile. “this really is the best birthday ever.” he chuckled.

“i’m glad you like it.” she grinned up at him before cuddling back into his side. “can you call into work today? we could do something fun. whatever you want to do!”

wyatt was often up early in the morning to bring her plants up to the roof so they could get the proper amount of sun they needed. there was rarely anyone out there that early so she was surprised to see a figure when she stepped through the door. after setting down her plants in the sun, wyatt turned to take another look as to who it was, only to see the familiar face of flint strumming his guitar. she walked over and sat next to him, just listening.

“You’re like my little sister so you’re going to put up with this. i don’t really care” river laughed and raised an eyebrow when she picked up the box. “you know i could take it back, right?” he teased.

“i didn’t know having someone who was like a big brother meant that i got picked on too.” she laughed. wyatt did in fact know he could easily take it back considering he was about six feet and she was about five. so she hugged the box to her chest and shook her head.

river stole a quick kiss before hunter left and decided to reply to some calls while she was out. he had just finished one when she came and he sat up again. “thank you bambi.” he beamed and looked at the package. “ooh i’m excited.” he smiled and gently unwrapped it. “oh…hunter…oh my god.” he gasped when he saw what was inside of it. he pulled the record out and covered his mouth with his free hand. “is this…baby.” he smiled wide before gently setting down so he could kiss hunter. “you’re the absolute best. oh my god” he smiled.

hunter watched him intently as he unwrapped the gift, excited to see his reaction. “as soon as i saw it, i knew i had to get it for you. you’ve been looking for it for a while, right?” she told him. hunter kissed him back deeply, taking in as much of him as she could. “i know.” she joked.

“never, never. this is all pure.” river laughed as he lifted her shirt up a little to draw small circles on her hips. “well you know i’m a curious little shit so i’d like that.” he chuckled.

hunter snorted as he said what he was doing was pure. “pure, mhm.” while she didn’t believe a word he was saying, she couldn’t say she was complaining. “be right back.” she grinned before hopping out of bed, pulling on her skirt from the night before and running up to her apartment. she quickly found box with the gift that she had already wrapped in blue birthday wrapping paper. hunter was about to head back down to the boy’s apartment when she had a thought. she had recently bought new lingerie that she hadn’t worn for him yet. she changed into it before slipping his t-shirt back on over top tucked into clean skirt before finally making her way back down to river. “happy birthday, bear.” she repeated as she plopped back onto the bed and handed him the package.

river laughed fondly and walked over to her, giving her a cheek a sloppy kiss to annoy her. “good. now you can have your sweets.” he chuckled setting the box down.

she scrunched her nose up in mock disgust and wiped the saliva off of her cheek. “you’re so gross.” wyatt laughed before quickly picking up the box so he couldn’t take it again.

“ah ah!” river shook his head when she tried to reach for the box. “be nice to me” he pouted.

wyatt sighed before let out a soft chuckle. “fine, i don’t hate you. i love you.” she had to stick out her tongue at the end, despite the sentiment being sincere, to keep at least a little bit of the attitude.

“oh of course, baby bear never has ulterior motives.” she shook her head with a laugh. “you should want it. i can go get it for you if you want. i’m not telling you what it is. you have to open it.”

“yeah i know but you get better with each year and this year its even better.” river smiled as he pecked her lips back. “wait there’s more than this?” he smiled at her before lightly nibbling on her neck.

"i think you’re just trying to suck up.” she teased as she absentmindedly ran her fingers up and down his bare chest. “yes, and you’re going to love it.” hunter beamed, excited to give it to him. she had found it a little while back, they weren’t on the best of terms at the time but she couldn’t miss the chance to get it.

“no you don’t have to be offended but this year…well look what you’re wearing and what you made me! it’s a nice day.” river laughed and pulled the covers on top of them. “this is much better.” he smiled before he started kissing her neck gently.

“you can’t tell me i didn’t wear this for you at some point last year. i know you love it when i wear your t-shirts.” she smirked and gave him a quick peck on the lips. “i have a present for you too but it’s up in my apartment.” hunter leaned her head to the side to give him more access to her neck.

"of course i will!” she smiled back at him. “but i’ll stop bugging you, let you get back to that mess of papers back there.”
