WAYNE TOWER DEVASTATED: DOZENS KILLED

Once heralded as the most forward thinking building in North America, Wayne Tower, was not immune to the devastating impact in Metropolis during the attack many people are calling the Black Zero Event. Although the building fared better than all of those in the vicinity, there was little to be done to save everyone. Among the 48 people who lost their lives in the devastation, 8 were children under the age of 10. In a press release William Walter, the spokesman for Wayne Enterprises said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and we will do whatever we can to help the survivors heal. Although there is nothing we can do to end their grief, that we all feel for those who were taken from us. We will support the Wayne Enterprises family as they mourn their loved ones." Bruce Wayne, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises was unavailable for comment.
Although the total death toll from the devastating attack may never be known, it is clear that Wayne Tower fared better than the other buildings that suffered similar damage. "Our emergency procedures were developed to cover every foreseeable scenario," said Walter. "We of course, never expected an alien attack of this nature much less the tremendous seismic event, as well as the alien energy beam that cut through the top floor."
The Wayne Foundation has set up a victim relief fund which will assist with donations on behalf of the victims and their families. Bruce Wayne has personally donated five million dollars to the fund and has encouraged survivors to take as much time as they need with consulting services, medical care and financial assistance for all of those involved at Wayne Financial. "Mr Wayne felt that although there is no amount of money that can undo what has been done, the good people of the Wayne Enterprises family need to know that their CEO is there to give everything he can to ease their pain." Walter went on to say that the Wayne Foundation has already started to make payments available to victims of the attack and will continue to do so until "the pain and grief no longer dominate the lives of those affected by this tragic day." Mr Wayne also made provisions for pension contributions and death in service benefits to be made payable to the victims families.
The long term consequences are of course yet to be determined. The overall devastation to the city was the worst domestic attack the United States has ever known. The attack completely destroyed over 35 high-rise buildings and damaged over 200 more. It is obvious that the skyline of Metropolis will be forever changed by this event. Both Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp have taken the lead in creating funds and donating materials to the clean up efforts. Up to this point, there is over 12 million dollars to the Rebuild Metropolis fund.

Remember the last time the Metropolis Meteors faced the Gotham Goliaths? If you're like most Metropolitans, you'd rather not. Meteors head coach Wymon Craig is among those who would sooner forget last year's embarrassing 42-0 blowout, an event that still attracts social media scorn despite the Meteors going on to a winning season and a playoff appearance.
"I'm sick of answering questions about that," snapped Craig, interviewed at the practice field where the Meteors were preparing for their rematch with the Goliaths this Sunday. "I'm sick and tired of you guys in the media making that into something because you need a headline, when meanwhile my boys are trying to stay focused and bring us a win." So far this season the team has seen mixed results, and the status of the Meteors running back Gill DeRiva is still questionable after he pulled a hamstring during practice.
The Goliaths on the other hand, are on a hot streak. They've so far won five games in a row, including last week's shutout of the division-leading Atoms. A confident Goliaths team is already acting like their victory is in the bag. "We're going to show the Meteors how we play football in Gotham," warned cornerback Bill Burr. "When it's over, we're going to see a lot of crybabies in the stands." Trash talk is common for these cross-bay rivals, but the heightened emotions are raising media attention for what is being billed as a showdown of epic proportions.
Coach Craig merely shrugged and stated "you've got to bring your A game every week. Rest assured we're bringing it. Now shut up and let's play some football."
You can catch this Sunday's game on ESPN at 08:00pm EST, the game will take place at the Gotham City Arena. Tickets have been sold out within ten minutes of the sale launch, all eyes of the east coast will be on the two most infamous cities in a match that will have both sides of the river, holding their breath.

THE LESSONS OF GOTHAM CITY

The latest crime statistics to come out of Gotham City come with a trouble underside. Serious crimes have plummeted according to the report released by the Fisher Group. The Group was commissioned by an independent watchdog who are studying the impact of vigilantism that has been present in the city in the last two decades.
With armed robberies down by fifty percent since last year, the report came out with a few startling figures which is causing analysts to argue into the accuracy of the Fisher Group findings. According to a press release from Gotham General Hospital, in-patient injuries attributed to vigilante attacks are on the rise. What's the cause? The mayor of Gotham says his city has no tolerance for vigilante justice, but the facts tell a different story.
The Gotham City Police Department has long been accused of colluding with the Batman, who conveniently refused to be held accountable to the law or the courts. When public protectors operate in the shadows, there is no longer accountability. When transparency in the justice system is lost, it is the citizens who ultimately suffer.
One resident of Midtown explained that "Gotham has always had a reputation as a city plagued with gang violence, drug trafficking, vandalism and arson. Many years of the Batman has curbed the problem, but at what cost? Are the people of Gotham willing to live in a city where fear is a substitute for order?" Interestingly, Midtown continues to be the most visited district in the city, by locals and tourists.
Midtown has had further investment including developments to corporate offices but this does not seem to deter the crime from occurring in the district. The famous locales of Midtown include: Balthazar's, Fox Gardens, Midtown Arena, Midtown Mall, Orpheum Theatre, Rosemont Theatre and the Wayne Botanical Gardens.

SUPERMAN DEAD: NIGHT OF TERROR MORNING OF LOSS

Truth, Justice and the American way. That's what he stood for. It only took his tragic death for people to realise that. Superman has been a subject of controversy ever since his arrival to Metropolis. People died that day and in order for the world to move on, the blame had to be pushed onto someone. Us Metropolitans pushed the fault where it belonged, onto the now deceased General Zod. This is because we witnessed Superman's heroics firsthand. We even erected a monument to remember those lost with him at the centre.
Recently, the world's faith in Superman has wavered. This was due to controversial incident with the overseas gang of terrorists in Nairomi, Africa. An incident now known to be orchestrated by Metropolis Billionaire, Lex Luthor. Luthor preyed on the public's doubt of Superman. He exploited the weaknesses of two of our country's greatest heroes. Both Batman and Superman, Luthor wanted them to come to blows. He also orchestrated the attack on Capitol Hill, killing multiple Senators and civilians, including Senator June Finch. The incident led the world to believe Superman was a conspirator in this attack and caused him to become a recluse, this sealed the public's mistrust in Superman.
Lex also managed to slither his way into the crashed Kryptonian Scout Ship, where he created the creature known as Doomsday. STAR Labs conducted tests on the body and found General Zod's DNA and traces of Luthor's blood. He manipulated two of our country's greatest champions to hate one another. He wanted Superman to kill The Dark Knight to prove to the world he was not the hero the world thought. Luthor also planned my kidnapping from the lobby of The Daily Planet, confessing to me he was behind the attacks after I was brought to the LexCorp Tower. I was pushed off the tower, falling thousands of feet to my death before I was saved by Superman. Just as Luthor expected, I was safely placed on Tilton Avenue before Superman flew to the top of LexCorp to confront Luthor.
Lex must have had major leverage on Superman, because not more than five minutes later, he flew across the bay to Gotham City. Lex assumed it was because Superman was going to murder Batman. But we all know Superman was never a murderer and never would be. Still, it was too late. Batman was harbouring intense anger towards the Man of Steel, believing him to be the cause of the Black Zero Event which claimed over 5,000 lives. Batman had been in the shadows, fighting crime for decades. All that buildup of fury from fighting crime had made him blind to the truth, Luthor had orchestrated his plan perfectly.
A battle between them ensued throughout the abandoned warehouse district of Gotham. I was unaware at the time, my partner Clark Kent was in the epicentre of this battle which also led to the loss of his life. (SEE ARTICLE: DAILY PLANET REPORTER CLARK KENT KILLED REPORTING GOTHAM BATTLE) I arrived at the scene to stop Batman about to murder Superman with a spear forged from Kryptonite, a mineral that is deadly to Kryptonians. I explained that Luthor was behind everything which led to the two heroes joining forces. Angering Luthor that his plan had failed, he unleashed Doomsday, a creature made from General Zod's body and Luthor's DNA. It was released into the city of Metropolis and eventually, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman led it to Gotham. The United States Military were also scrambling to stop the creature, firing a nuclear missile into space on the orders of the President. Superman was caught in the crossfire but did not perish, neither did Doomsday.

DAILY PLANET REPORTER CLARK KENT KILLED REPORTING GOTHAM BATTLE

Clark Kent was one of our own, and he will be sorely missed. Clark was one of two reporters who stayed in Gotham to cover the Battle that raged over the skies of both Metropolis and Gotham, and eventually would claim the life of not only Mr. Kent, but of Superman as well.
The exact circumstances of his death are still coming to light, but we do know that he was killed doing what he loved. Clark Kent was born in Kansas in 1980, and came to Metropolis only two years ago. On the recommendation of fellow reporter and friend Lois Lane, he was hired to the Daily Planet as a junior reporter and quickly rose through the ranks.
During his time at the Daily Planet, Clark was taken under the wing of Lois Lane and they quickly became very close. We understand that Clark and Lois were in a relationship together and resided in Metropolis, we asked Lane for a statement but she has taken a period of absence following her partner's death.
His insights and investigative skills were immediately apparent, he was assigned to follow bigger and bigger stories for The Daily Planet, and broke several of his own. His capacity for getting to the essence and truth of a story was rewarded last year when he received the Elliot Prize for Investigative Journalism for the second time. This was a first for any of the reporters on staff at The Daily Planet.
Readers of this publication have been familiar with Kent's work for the past two years. Writing about economics, pollution, justice, crime, education and the human condition. Kent's writing touched us all. We all marveled at his clarity of vision and evidence of sound reason. We all admired the man, his work, his ethos and the way he lived his life.
He worked tirelessly to make sure that his reporting was not only in-depth, but that it was able to connect to the common man. He was thorough and dogged in his pursuit of any story he was reporting. Our Editor-in-Chief Perry White had this to say:
From the smaller human interest stories to the larger news of national interest, his grace, style and never ending charm will be sorely missed by all of us here at the Daily Planet. He was part of our incredible team and an integral part to our operations. Our hearts go out to his mother, Martha Kent and his partner, Lois Lane.
Clark was an only child and is survived by his mother, Martha Kent.
UPDATE: He will be buried in a small private ceremony at Smallville Cemetary in Smallville, Kansas. Perry White will be in attendance to pay his respects as well as Lois Lane. The Daily Planet will operate on a reserve team as we pay our respects to our dear and beloved colleague.
Family and friends have asked for their privacy to be respected at this sad and difficult time.

STRONG WORDS IN SENATE OVER KRYPTONIAN ATTACK
Senators bicker over the surveillance of metahumans.

Partisan bickering on Capitol Hill has found a new flashpoint in the Kryptonian attack on Metropolis, with senators angrily debating on the importance balancing surveillance and a stronger national defense budget over domestic concerns. Washington is feeling the pressure by the American people to respond in the wake of the Kryptonian attack.
"Some politicians want to close their eyes and pretend the attack never happened, and they have every right to make their arguments," snapped Senator Daniels at the press. "Such attitudes are dangerous and short-sighted, and I trust the American people to be the judges of who has their best interests at heart. They will pay the price if they choose poorly." Stern words from Senator Daniels, who believes that there needs to be a legislation that allows the U.S. government to intervene when it comes to aliens. Meaning the likes of the Kryptonian, famously dubbed "Superman" may have to act on behalf of the United States of America and be bound by international law.
The Kryptonian attack, which flattened entire blocks in the middle of one of the nation's most prominent cities, has raised some thorny issues concerning how the U.S. and international law ought to be applied to aliens. Congress-hardliners are calling for a coordinated security effort aimed at preventing similar attacks. Their opponents, who've built their platform on protecting citizens' rights, have recently spoken out against the government's issuance of private contracts that have greatly enriched corporate suppliers. One of the corporate suppliers has seen an increase in their proposed research and development budget by over $142 billion within the last three months, LexCorp is on track to become the largest private high tech defense contractors in the world.
The fiery scenes from Capitol Hill are a reminder that the world has changed drastically since the arrival of Superman. The President has remained silent on the issue, which is not surprising. Sources close to the President say he's weighing up his options once the polls come in relating to the issue of Superman before making his stance clear. A clever and bold move by the White House, but with the next election in two years, will the risk pay off?
For now the two sides are deadlocked, but the Senate National Security Subcommittee announced last month that the debate will be the subject of an upcoming Senate hearing, to be chaired by Senator Finch.

SUPERMAN! MYSTERIOUS HERO SAVES THE WORLD

An epic showdown over the skies of metropolis, the caped wonder we now call Superman, along with the United States Air Force, defeated a group of alien terrorists attempting to destroy the city and ultimately, the world.
Days ago General Zod and his Kryptonian army invaded global airspace, and declared the citizens of the Earth were harbouring a fugitive from the planet called Krypton. As government agencies scrambled to respond, clues about the alien living among us had already been discovered deep beneath a glacier in the Canadian Arctic Region, specifically Ellesmere Island. Embedded with the military and scientific teams of NORTHCOM, I witnessed their detection of a mass concealed in the ice. It was first believed that what they had found was Soviet era submarine, what they discovered was actually something much more exotic.
Interestingly, a series of UFO sightings occurred in the Manitoba region between 1975 and 1976. A mysterious signal began to emanate from beneath the ice of Ellesmere Island sometime in 2012, which was detected by a NASA satellite. The satellite then picked out an anomaly within the ice shelves. A mission to scope the icefield was commissioned in 2012 at the same site as Scout Ship 0344. Only, the Scout Ship was discovered a year later when I arrived.
An isotope analysis of the surrounding ice bores suggested that an object had been trapped in the glacier for over 18,000 years. The Pentagon was quick to deny any such encounter, but when the ship broke through its icy bounds and disappeared into the sky, questions were raised from locals in the area. Civilian contractors corroborated my recollection and their description of the ship matched my own. I had a firsthand experience in dealing with the alien visitor. He had secured a job working on the military base stationed just outside of Yellowknife, the capital, and the only city, and has the largest community in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
I followed the mystery man into the glacier, when I was scoping the area. He seemed to have known how the ship operated and activated it successfully. He rescued me when I was wounded from a Kryptonian robot, he possessed godlike strength and could shoot heat lasers from his eyes. My rescuer saved me from death, for which I am eternally grateful. I was unable to regain consciousness for a prolonged period of time and when I woke up, I was taken back to mainland Canada by military personnel with no answers from my questions posed by this appearance of an alien ship.
As for my rescuer? He disappeared during the object's departure. A background check revealed that his work history and identity had been falsified. The questions raised by my rescuer's existence were frightening to contemplate, but I also know what I saw I arrived at the inescapable conclusion that the object and its occupant did not originate on earth. Teams from across the world tried to track the ship, but were unable to locate its whereabouts.
