Wellbeing Wheel. During this first year of the masters programme I'm on, I had the opportunity to dive deeply into a 6 month Integrative Practice module. This process cultivated an active relationship between theory and practice, in an attempt to ground ideas and thoughts into lived experiences. Encouraged to engage with the module in our own way, I chose to frame the 5 domains of Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Interpersonal and Spiritual alongside the 7 Chakra Model. Yoga, qigong, sound baths, journaling and dreamwork were engaged with on daily and weekly timelines, but as the months went by, I found everyday activities also became useful for the integrative journey - from a meaningful chat with a friend, to spending time in nature, or even just having a good cup of tea, everything we do activates different sides of our being, and can contribute towards a sense of feeling whole, even just for a while. I tried to represent some of these practices through this painting, which now serves as a reminder for the things which actively contribute towards my wellbeing. Drawing this piece into existence has been an important landmark for me. Capturing the various lenses I've been learning about and making use of within my practice, it provided a space to sit and spend time with each of the symbols, taking the time to render them fully without rushing. A little continuum of symbols that have caught my attention lately 👁👁👁 It's the end of the academic year for me. I've been studying an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology part-time and it's been quite the journey! A whole lot of reading, writing and research has gone on, but more than that, as encouraged by the course I've experimented with new and familiar practices, met some incredible people from around the world, and furnaced some ideas for artworks that I'm excited to work on over the summer... before I retreat back to the caves of studying once again in the autumn. This drawing evolved alongside and through the course, providing a snapshot of some of the frameworks I've been working with. They say the universe is expanding year after year, and I like to see that as part-challenge part-opportunity to expand on the astronomical calendar design each year. - This year I've added more sections, incorporated suggestions offered from last year's drawing, and generally just levelled up the whole thing entirely. - There's more details, more symbols and more info, but it should be easier than ever to make sense of what's going on and when in this beaut of a universe throughout the year of 2022. - The keen eyed among you may also notice that for the first year of this annual wheel of time and space, graphite was not the only ingredient - I've used ink to plot the stars and make them shine that little bit brighter, and I hope you'll agree it's worked like a charm! - It's taken a bit longer than I'd anticipated to get this cosmic beast completed, but there is still time if you'd like a print delivered in time to be a festive gift. A Logarithmic Map of the Solar System. - I'm pleased to say this latest drawing project is complete! Over the past few days I've enjoyed orbiting the studio at every available moment, to center my thoughts and learn a little bit more about the universe. - All 218 confirmed and provisional moons can be found labelled here. Many of them are named after Greek, Norse and Inuit Gods, though many Shakespearean characters also make an appearance.
