I am seeing some of the WORST takes about tdp season 4. Sweet, sweet tumblr users. This season was a lot of set up, not everything was supposed to be explained or resolved, or even "should" have been. Season 4 had to do the heavy leg work of re-establishing characters and arcs and the plot moving foreword. It just needs a little time to be able to act on everything it's now established. It did a good job building off of arc 1, and now we are fully indoctrinated into arc 2!

Life Action Star Wars TV Given Us Great Trans Twi’leks
Tumblr media
Biologically male Twi’leks have pointy near-human ears, while biologically female have cones. Xi'an from The Mandalorian does not have cone protrusions implying she has ears under her head dress making her a trans woman, while the servant portrayed by Marlon Aquino in The Book of Boba Fett very clearly has cones and lacks forehead bumps that amab Twi’leks do, making him a trans man. And yes even in live action males have the forehead bumps as Qin had them in Mandalorian and David Pasquesi’s character has some in this show as well.

Fun Fact for anyone that might have missed it Temuera Morrison is Indigenous Maori and his extremely angry face as he fought off assassins in episode 1 is Haka

Which he also incorporated into his episode of The Mandalorian
Star Wars having so much poc representation is so important and as an indigenous person seeing such an immense role being played by an indigenous person who so proudly incorporates their culture directly into such an iconic character, as Boba Fett is. Makes me insanely emotional

Another thing that is so consistently good about Arcane is the total lack of male gaze in the entire show. The creators obviously had to use the character design for some of the characters that included skimpier outfits (Jinx's outfit, and the female Enforcer uniforms) but at no point did I feel like either Jinx or Caitlyn were sexed up. Jinx's outfit seemed to fit her character and wasn't used to sexualize her at all, and Caitlyn wore more practical clothing any time she was left to her own devices/not in the enforcer uniform, giving the impression that the enforcer uniform was more of a nod to in-world sexism, but not exploited as a vehicle to sexualize her. More than that, I thought the female characters were so beautifully nuanced in a way I can't really identify in any other big show or movie right now. Vi was allowed to be angry and violent and rough around the edges without becoming some anti-butch, anti-masculine-woman caricature. Grayson carried herself with a beautiful masculine dignity - reminiscent of the nobility of medieval knights, trying to do the right thing, pledging her weapon to defending her people. Medarda was drop-dead gorgeous but her political savvy was her most highlighted feature and her male love interest did not at all overshadow that aspect of her character. Sevika was allowed to be a tough, badass villain, and they didn't make her seductive or sexual, which are features that are so often highlighted in villainous women. I could go on but man, I feel like they're doing the most when it comes to doing their female characters justice. The more I think about this show, the more I find to love.

Imagine Adam and Ruby having trashy reality tv marathons together, absolutely not talking about the dweebs who broke their hearts, while their dogs play together on the floor in front of the tv

Gonna be real I really like that they made Hope a realistic villain, like they show how she’s under stress and her motives and what her values are and how those values lead her to do what she does.
HOWEVER the attempt to make her a sympathetic villain fell so flat because firstly she’s so awful it’s really hard for me to feel bad for her, and secondly the specific tragic thing they chose to be her sympathetic backstory. Like. She can’t have children, yeah that’s a really sad thing to happen to somebody who wants to be a parent, but man she spends the whole season manipulating and abusing children, you expect me to feel sad that she can’t have her own kids? Man that’s not a tragedy that’s divine intervention I’m sorry
