“I like drinking coffee alone and reading alone. I like riding the bus alone and walking home alone. It gives me time to think and set my mind free. I like eating alone and listening to music alone. But when I see a mother with her child, a girl with her lover, or a friend laughing with their best friend, I realize that even though I like being alone, I don’t fancy being lonely. The sky is beautiful, but the people are sad. I just need someone who won’t run away.”

the thing about reputation that gets me is like. so it’s supposed to be the same story told twice, right. and that just makes every song pairing absolutely heart wrenching. like you got ready for it and gorgeous, where ready for it is cocky and experienced and gorgeous is just a fucking mess. and then you have end game and getaway car, both expressing the need to get away from the world and the belief that the relationship is doomed but end game carries this desire not to hurt the other person and wanting to make the relationship work and then getaway car being the only breakup song on the album??? and i did something bad vs king of my heart might as well be the thesis statement of the whole album, one thats bombastic and unrepentant but a little hurt while the other is building this tender love in private, truly the public image vs her private life through 2016 and 2017. and then don’t blame me and dancing with our hands tied just guts me, with don’t blame me being so over the top and dramatic and boy crazy and then dancing with our hands tied peeling that all away, and instead of her love making her crazy it’s the rest of the world and she’s found her only solace, or maybe not, maybe that’s what makes her crazy, that she’s willing to face the rest of the world for one person, but it’s not manic or possessive like her image, it’s insecure and always waiting for one of them to leave. and then you have delicate and dress, which flips everything on its head, with delicate showing a crash of insecurity, all new love and impermanence, just like all her loves before, just like the narrative always goes, while dress is slowly building trust and security!! lwymmd and tiwwchnt are probably the easiest parallels, but ones more bitter while the other celebrates the growth and good things that’ve come alongside the whole Incident. and then the parallels close of with so it goes and ciwyw, with so it goes showing a relationship from the perspective of its lies and limelight and magicians and illusions, while ciwyw is from the other side of the curtain peeking out, realizing that their reputations will always be there but it doesn’t have to matter.

“Yeah, I reckoned [that Taylor was going to be one of the biggest artists in music]. I think you could tell, I mean - you know there’s a thing where people are playing into the future when they play a show, you can just tell that their eyes are set way, way ahead of where they are. And she had that right from the beginning, you could tell. She’s a great songwriter. Truly for me, I think she’s one of our generation’s great, great songwriters. Period. She’s so good. It was great getting to watch her go from there to where she is now - it’s extraordinary. [On how their collaboration happened] I was in Australia, it was December, I was doing my last minute Christmas shopping - as you do - and I was at the shopping mall in the food court, and I got a text from Taylor saying, ‘I’ve got these couple of songs that are unreleased, would you sing on them?’ And I’m like yeah, send me the songs, let me hear them. So I’m sitting in the food court with my airpods in, listening to two unreleased Taylor Swift songs, watching everybody walk by and just thinking, ‘This is a crazy place to be listening to this music tight now.’ But the songs were great and I got to get in a studio and put some guitar and vocals on them and I’m really happy with how it turned out.”
– Keith Urban on watching Taylor develop into one of the biggest artists in the world (The Late Late Show with James Corden, April 15th 2021)

i always used to think it was really cheesy to say love never dies and people live on in your heart but i think i was actually just misunderstanding and that made it sound fake and thus cheesy. but it’s not fake. it’s so real. i still make jokes like my 6th grade best friend and i sing the way i do because of my best friend and crush in college. i love plants and to garden because my mom taught me how it felt to plant my fingers in wet soil underneath a warm and forgiving sun and help something grow into something different than before. i fold my clothes like my mom used to for me. i drive and drum on my steering wheel like my dad used to. my music and entertainment taste has a little piece of everyone in my heart, they talk to me all the time. I make my life beautiful through organizing and planning and believing in myself like my sister taught me to. I am a divine mosaic of everyone who has ever touched my heart. I take what my heart can and wants to hold close and i let the rest go. what’s left is divinity. my heart is always full, because people never really can leave you once they’ve loved you and you’ve loved them. we are all mosaics. separateness is a lie we are all told; we are all mosaics filled with one another, with some grander consciousness i like to call love.

jackantonoff: sunday night!
thank you to @sharp_stick who has been by my side for every piece of music i have written or produced. the sound coming out of our corner is the sound of laura and i having the time of our lives just messing around with ideas. my new friend @heyjonlow who is a brilliant engineer and mixer. @aarondessner - the best of the best! he’s inspired me long before we became friends. no bleachers without aaron’s work, thats just a fact. thank you to @bleachersmusic baddies @mikeyfreedomhart and @esmith109 for playing on folklore. to @bobbyhawkmusic on the violin making it sound scratchy and magical mystery tour-y. perfect. to @serbangheneamixes and @heyjonlow ‘s beautiful mixes.
and @taylorswift , from 1989 to here…. goddmann. you are the one who let me produce records first. before you i just “wasn’t a producer” according to the herbs. i just wasnt let in that room. then i met you, we made out of the woods and you said, “that’s the version” and that changed my life right there.
awards are about the people around you. they’re about the people that raised you, your friends and everyone behind the scenes who work so hard to give you the chance to make your best work. im talking my bleachers band and touring crew, my family at @electricladystudios in NY and conway in LA.
talking jeff lynne, jimmy jam, sophie, brian eno, sounwave and all the greats who make you want to find THAT sound. thats what these moments are about - how you got where you got.
ok. back in the studio writing today. no better place to be after sunday night. (x)

so many angry men on Twitter trying to come for Taylor for her AoTY win like honey bunches you can’t use ‘she relies on 30 songwriters and producers’ as an excuse when she has fewer collaborators on entire albums than some people do on ONE song and the information is readily available online..you’re just embarrassing yourself anyway go listen to some Real Music and maybe you’ll calm down
