I can't stop thinking about this movie, so I might as well write about it. The movie is called The Beast (2023). It's relatively new, they probably still show it in movie theatres. And I DO NOT recommend it if you're looking solely for entertanment. It's not entertaining. It's a torture to watch. I wished we had chosen something else the whole way through.

But here's the catch. I can't stop thinking about it! This story is so nothing like anything else I had ever seen. It's stuck in my mind and I keep ruminating about it. To get rid of this horrible virus, I'll explain as briefly as I can what I think about it. So, here we go.

1. On the surface, it seems like a mysterious love story across the centuries, kinda. It is presumed that we all have several lives and can even meet each other in all of them, which to me seems like a huge coincidence, but whatever. Whenever this woman, the main character, meets this guy, you know something terrible is going to happen to her. She has some kind of gut feeling about it, but nobody knows what exactly she's afraid of. One of the ideas spread all across the internet is that she's afraid of strong feelings, which is what's shown in the first part. But I would argue that it's not that at all. The second part is about him being afraid. And the third part is, well, about AI. So I think what this woman actually fears is not being able to experience strong feelings. This is what ties up all the three stories together and makes total sense! What's more, we can often hear the song Evergreen about evergreen love that probably never has a chance to mature and ripen. Tragic? No! Therapeautic. You get out of that cinema and think all the right things.

2. The second part is set in Los Angeles and this one is real spooky. The guy is a 30-year-old loser that makes dubious video content. The only thing that he seems to be obsessed with is women, and they do not return the favour so to say. It's funny how ironic life is. The woman in this part is a model who looks after some rich people's mansion. She doesn't seem to fret much about her safely, and so, when the guy becomes a real psycho, he goes to that house, and... well, becomes a killer, later a serial killer. What amazed me is how this outrageous story was fitted among the more traditionally romantic ones. As the poet said: The weight of this world is love.

3. So, the whole movie, as it seems to me, is about the importance of feelings. Do we even need those? They make us so imperfect, so miserable, so unprotected, so... human. I've been trying to stick to stoicism for years now just because it's exruciatingly painful not to. Being rational has its perks for sure, like you don't buy into some weird stuff, don't blindly believe everyone, steer away from trouble. On the other side though, you are bored out of your mind. You're just too careful with everything. In the world of AI, you would probably be a perfect human, but would it really be the world you'd like to live in? This is what the third part is about.
