(Research) Report by Te Waihanga|The Infrastructure Commission
The housing crisis in New Zealand, outlined in the report by Te Waihanga|The Infrastructure Commission, is attributed to changing regulations and systems that impeded housing development. Previously, planning systems facilitated new property development, but this shifted with downzoning and a focus on car-centric transport, leading to congestion and soaring housing prices.
Reforming urban infrastructure and planning is proposed as crucial to addressing the crisis, with government plans including policy consolidation and intensification requirements in council plans. However, improving affordable housing accessibility and transportation is also vital.
While some suggest rent controls, the report highlights the necessity for comprehensive regulation reforms. Ultimately, fostering people-friendly streets and reliable public transport can enhance livability in distant areas and help alleviate the housing crisis.

(Research) New Zealand鈥檚 housing crisis is worsening. 2022 article.
Rapidly rising housing costs, particularly in Auckland, are causing significant concern among New Zealanders. While owning a home has traditionally been a cherished aspiration, the average home price in Auckland, now at NZ$1.4 million, is 35 times the median income, making it increasingly unattainable. The housing market's surge, driven by low interest rates and government stimulus, has led to substantial price hikes nationwide, with New Zealand experiencing some of the largest increases. Last year alone, house prices rose by more than a quarter. In comparison to incomes, New Zealand now ranks among the top six countries globally with the most expensive housing. The central bank has warned that these price levels are unsustainable and has implemented measures to restrict lending to individuals with smaller deposits.

(Research) Stigmatization and underfunding as key issues to Housing Crisis...
Advocates for public housing in New Zealand criticize the government for concentrating its attention on "anti-social tenants," rather calling attention to decades of聽underfunding and neglect. "A People鈥檚 Review of K膩inga Ora: In Defence of Public Housing," a report, emphasizes that in order to properly address the housing crisis, public housing must be constructed and upgraded with consistent investment.
Housing Advocates demand a renewed commitment to public housing in opposition to recent plans that would have increased evictions and moved people into private apartments. They draw attention to the more extensive effects of inadequate public housing resources, such as pressure on health care and academic performance. In order to create prosperous communities, the research highlights public support for increased public housing investment and calls on lawmakers to give it top priority.

Picking a Topic
In this initial assessment, I've chosen to delve into the complex issue of the housing crisis in New Zealand, a topic that falls under the broader umbrella of the cost of living in the country. This assessment will focus on conducting a comprehensive study of the housing market dynamics, examining the root causes, consequences, and potential solutions associated with this pressing issue.
Subsequently, the culmination of this assessment will manifest through the creation of visually compelling posters and a dynamic website. These mediums will serve as powerful tools to raise awareness and advocate for action regarding the housing crisis in New Zealand.
