Everybody Focus, Please: ‘Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie’
The cast of ‘Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie.’ (Photo: Ben Arons)
By Matthew Wexler
The Mad Ones, New York City’s hyper-realistic, devised-work theater ensemble, returns with their latest creation, Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie, which invites audiences inside a focus group for a 1970s children’s television show. But the real drama unfolds ever so subtly among a diverse collection of parents and its facilitator Dale (Brad Heberlee).
For 90 minutes, we get glimpses into parenting skills and cultural identities, all revealed through a methodical series of research questions. The six participants represent a timely cross-section of America: June, a wife of a successful doctor (Carmen M. Herlihy); Wayne, who works in the manufacturing industry (Michael Dalto); bookstore owner Ernest (Phillip James Brannon); single mom Gloria (Stephanie Wright Thompson); sophisticated and well-spoken Celeste — who prefers to go by Cici (January LaVoy); and salesman Roger (Joe Curnutte). Jim (Marc Bovino), a research and data associate, rounds out the ensemble, tucked in the back furiously taking notes and jotting down brainstorming sessions on a chalkboard. Mundane? Not in the least.
For those not familiar with The Mad Ones’ work, their meticulous attention to detail is nothing short of mesmerizing. No, you won’t see bigger-than-life performances such as the Tony Award-nominated Nathan Lane in Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus or Glenda Jackson’s bellowing patriarch in King Lear. But if you watch (and listen) closely in the intimate Greenwich House theatre, you’ll witness a 21st-century reimagining of Stanislavski’s groundbreaking shift toward naturalism.
January LaVoy in ‘Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie.’ (Photo: Ben Arons)
Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie doesn’t have quite the same dramatic arc as the company’s previous work, Miles for Mary, which charted a disparate group of educators planning an annual fundraising event. Conceptually similar, that work delivered bigger swings and hits, while Menagerie’s pace and tone are more restrained.
Even so, you’ll witness temperaments simmer as the participants disagree about fictional disciplinary action as they review pilots for potential spin-offs: Candace’s Cabinet and Teddy’s Treehouse. While there is no singular way to rear a child, each parent eventually taps into his or her ideologies. “I’d like her to know that it’s not just magic that something gets fixed and gets brought back to you, and then you get cake,” Cici says of the fictional Candace after she’s broken a cello. “But that everything has a process.”
The Mad Ones’ process — a minutely detailed creative approach to character development — delivers fascinating results. One can only wonder what kind of menagerie they’ll create next.

Your Complete Guide To Scoring Last Minute Seville Cathedral Tickets
“Hagamos una Iglesia tan hermosa y tan grandios que los que la vieren labrada nos tengan por locos” which translates to “Let us build a church so beautiful and so grand that those who see it finished will think we are mad” said the ones who built the Seville Cathedral, and they have most definitely accomplished just that. The Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, and after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil it is the 3rd largest church in the world! This cathdedral dominates Seville's skyline like no other building and you'll be magnetically pulled towards it since the time you step foot in the city. Not just because you can see it from pretty much every corner of Seville, but because of its breathtaking beauty. Nothing this great comes free, so you will need a ticket to explore this cathedral and I'd most definitely recommend a tour with a historian local while you're here. To know all about getting the best priced Seville Cathedral tickets in town, read on.

There are no stairs to La Giralda de Sevilla. Instead, there is a series of 35 gently inclined ramps that are wide enough to allow two horses to pass by at the same time. While the ramp does make the climb easier, those with knee problems and other mobility issues should give it a though before starting the climb. The ramp however makes it accessible for those on wheelchairs. However, those who have braved the 343 ft climb are rewarded the best views of Seville city.
The opening hours of the Cathedral can be modified due to religious ceremonies and other cultural activities. Make sure you check the Cathedral’s calendar to confirm visits are allowed.
If you purchased the Seville Card, you can waltz into the Cathedral with skip the line access.
Buying tickets to a combo guided tour that covers the Alcazar of Seville and Cathedral is the best way to see the two gems of Seville. You can do away with the hassle of buying two separete tickets and standing in two terribly long queues!
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if the tickets are sold out?
If the tickets you want are sold out, your best bet is buying a guided tour ticket. They are almost always available, especially last minute. The combo tours with the Alcazar and Cathedral visit are also available last minute.
Is the Seville Cathedral Guided Tour recommended?
Definitely! Nothing beats an expert guide taking you through the biblical history of the Cathedral, fascinating stories about Christopher Columbus's burial ground and other lores that the walls of the church have sealed for centuries. No audio-guide or book can do justice to this experience! A guided tour is recommended all the way!
Can I visit only the La Giralda Rooftop without purchasing a ticket to the Cathedral?
Unfortunately, no. The roofs are only accessible to the public by pre-booking the guided tours. There are tours at different times depending on the language of your choice and the groups are limited to 25 at a time.
Is there a way to see the Seville Cathedral  for free?
You can visit the Seville Cathedral for free on Mondays. However, you have to register for a slot of your convenience on the website.
Is there a baggage check at the entrance?
Yes. There are baggage checks, but they are not airport style. You will not be allowed to carry big bags inside the Cathedral, so make sure you carry a small backpack.
Are there any limitations on Photography?
Photography is not an issue unless you want to take commercial pictures or use a tripod, which is not allowed inside. Drones are prohibited as well.
How much time should I keep aside for a sedate visit?
I'd recommend keeping aside 2.5 hours for a leisure visit of Cathedral.

San Pietro Fish
The San Pietro Fish or the dory fish is a popular dish in Venice during the summer. Fried in oil and garnished with salt, pepper, parsley, and a slice of lemon, this basic dish is bursting with flavour and proves to be the perfect summer lunch dish. Where to order: Bar Puppa, Calle della Spezier
Cicchetti
The Venetian version of the ‘Tapas’, cicchetti are small snacks or side-dishes that come in bite-sized versions. A popular dish in bars or taverns in Venice, these include seafood, meat, cheese, and a variety of vegetables. It is best washed down with a glass of white wine called ombra! Where to order: Enoteca al Volto, Calle Cavalli
Gelato
Don’t make the mistake of referring to Gelato as ice cream and you will do fine in Venice! Gelato is a frozen dessert that is similar to ice cream but is denser and more intense in its flavour. The traditional and authentic Gelato flavours are vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, and pistachio. Where to order: Bacaro del Gelato, Fondamenta Misericordia
Pizza
You can’t go wrong with pizza in all of Italy and Venice is no different! In July, the freshest produce hits the markets and thereafter, straight to your pizza. Don’t ask for extra toppings; your pizza will have the basic tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil and that’s how it’s meant to be savoured! Where to order: Antico Forno, Ruga Rialto
Peach Bellini
The Bellini is Venice’s favorite drink, it is a prosecco mixed with a peace puree, and is drunk straight without ice. It is the best drink to cool down in summer after a long day of sightseeing and canal hopping. Where to order: Harry’s Bar, Sestiere San Marco
Tips for Visiting Venice in July
The Festa del Redentore is celebrated over two days. On 20th July, Saturday, you can cross over the pontoon bridge that is built to connect Venice to the island of Giudecca. Fireworks start at night around 11 PM and the best place to watch them is at Riva dei Sette Martiri or Rimembranze Park at Sant’Elena. It is the biggest and best fireworks show in all of Italy!
On 21st July, the people of Venice can be found heading to the Grand Canal for the Regata, where local gondolas vie for the title. The locals cheer for their teams and the best place to join them is near the Church on Giudecca.
Given the importance of Redentore for the locals both religiously and culturally, a lot of them shut shop over Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Stock up on a few basic supplies, especially if you are traveling with kids. The main tourist attractions will continue to run as per the usual schedule.
If you want to enjoy a bit of the beach coming so close to the Adriatic Sea, then you should head to the island of Lido. Its beaches are a mix of sandy stretches and natural areas suitable for spotting wildlife. Some of the beaches you can visit are sand dunes of San Nicolo and Alberoni, Murazzi rocks, and Bluemoon beach.
Mosquitoes are a problem in Venice in the summer, thanks to its numerous canals. Carry an insect repellent and use it just before dusk if you are out and about in the city.

Broadway’s Bawdy Bloodbath: ‘Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus’
Nathan Lane and Kristine Nielsen in ‘Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.’ (Photo: Julieta Cervantes)
By Ryan Leeds
Gary is on Broadway, but it isn’t Marian the librarian’s hometown — that one arrives next year. Right now, we must deal with the carnage.
Downtown performance artist Taylor Mac (whose preferred pronoun is “Judy”) has christened Broadway’s Booth Theatre with a unique brand of quirk and activism, the likes of which have never been seen in such a commercial space. Bravo, Taylor Mac, Bravo! And kudos to the show’s producers for financing the irreverent and fracturing the status quo.
Audiences and critics have been (and will continue to be) deeply divided over Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, its style, and what it all means. At least we’ll get some full-blown belly laughs out of this one, thanks to Nathan Lane, Kristine Nielsen, and Julie White. Besides, even Lane isn’t one hundred percent sure of the significance. “It’s like Bert Lahr said when he read Waiting for Godot,” Lane recalled in a Playbill interview, “‘I don’t know if I understand it all, but I have the nagging suspicion this might be important.'”
Whether this will have the longevity and importance of the classic Beckett play remains to be seen. Yet while it’s still here, let’s rejoice in this bawdy bloodbath.
Julie White in ‘Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.’ (Photo: Julieta Cervantes)
Carol (Julie White), a daffy midwife, opens the show, announcing some bad news in rhymed verse and spurting blood after a near decapitation. Moments later, the curtain rises on a stockpile of slaughtered bodies: The Roman Empire has been defeated. Gary (Lane) and Janice (Kristine Nielsen) are charged with cleaning up the corpses. Gary (who hails from a family of clowns) is an unsuccessful jester and, much to Janice’s disapproval entertains himself by posing with the stiffs and turning them into his own toys. A tough-as-nails Janice is fed up with his antics and just want to get the job done, which entails embalming the bodies and providing a proper burial. At the same time, she decries the wealth and status this dead bunch once had. Both rail against the system that has long oppressed them, but are resigned to their current lot in life.
It’s unclear entirely what Mac is trying to tell us through these whacky characters. Is this a commentary on our country’s current cultural landscape? Have we commoners been hijacked by brazen elitists who have gutted the soul of our nation and now, we’re left to clean up the wreckage? Or, does this trio serve as a prescient warning for the future? Oh, to be a fly on the wall in production meetings with Mac and director George C. Wolfe. Perhaps there is no making sense of it. Maybe we are just relegated to the tasks at hand — stuck in the mundane — allowing life to happen to us rather than proactively changing it. Such existential questions will linger long after the curtain falls.
That’s what makes Gary such a rare, hilarious, and thoughtful work. Though, in the hands of less talented actors, I’m not so sure it would work as well. Time and time again, the Tony Award-winning Lane has proven himself to be one of our country’s finest stage actors. This is no exception. For as outlandish as this piece is, there are moments of poignancy and subtlety that he embraces, creating an empathetic view of the Everyman simply doing his best.
Nathan Lane in ‘Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.’ (Photo: Julieta Cervantes)
Nielsen is also terrific as she bosses around her underling and teaches him how to siphon body fluids.
Tony-winner White deserves the most praise here. Although she is onstage less than her counterparts, the backstage drama of how she landed the part is impressive. Initially, Nielsen was playing White’s role (Carol) and Andrea Martin was cast as Janice. At the beginning of March, Martin broke her ribs and had to bow out. Consequently, Nielsen stepped into the role of Janice and White had less than a week to prepare as Carol. It would be a difficult task under any circumstance, but given the comedy’s absurdist nature, it’s nothing short of miraculous.
There are several references to Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, but one need not have familiarity or knowledge to enjoy Gary. What you will need is an open mind and an iron stomach.

Vivid Sydney 2019 – A Summer Festival Of Lights, Music & Ideas
Best described as an annual, spectacular melting pot of light, music and ideas; Vivid Sydney is a three-week long event that showcases the very best of Australia. Light, music and ideas aren't just mere words used to prop up Vivid Sydney but the very foundation of the event. All three weeks of the event witness a dazzling selection of immersive light shows, killer performances by international and local artists and interactive forums where ideas can be exchanged.
The 2019 edition of the event is scheduled to begin from May 24th and close on 15th June, marking the end of its 11th year. The best part? All light shows are absolutely free and you have to pay only for the music and ideas events! If you live in Sydney or are planning to visit the Harbour City, Vivid Sydney should definitely be on your radar of things to experience.

Vivid Sydney: A one-of-a-kind celebration
Vivid Sydney was described as a must experience event in the previous paragraph. Why is that? Well, to begin with, the event is unlike anything you have ever experienced. There's no event which blends art, music and creativity in such fine fashion as Vivid Sydney. What began as a low key Smart light festival to promote energy efficiency in 2009 has grown to include the arts and culture scene of Australia itself. In 2017, the event attracted over 2.3 million visitors and contributed over $143 million into NSW's visitor economy!
Masterfully blending art and technology to create a fantastical light and sound show, Vivid Sydney features massive light installations across some of Sydney's most iconic landmarks. The 2019 edition of Vivid Sydney is set to feature a new light show created by LA-based filmmaker Andrew Thomas Huang. Famed choreographer Toogie Barcelo has partnered with Huang and dancer Jenna Moroni to put together Austral Flora Ballet, an illuminating tribute to Australia's native plantlife.
A magical glimpse of the illuminated Sydney skyline is reason enough to attend Vivid Sydney but when you combine it with everything else the event stands for, both in terms of promoting local talent and showcasing the rich and fascinating culture of Australia, there's really no reason to skip it!
Vivid Sydney 2019 Highlights
Vivid Light
Considered the star attraction of the Vivid Sydney festival, Vivid Light features mesmerizing light installations and projections, all on display outdoors. What makes these light shows special is the way Sydney's iconic landscape is used to make the showcase even more memorable. The 2019 edition of the Vivid Light show will be organized across eight precincts across the city, including Luna Park, Chatswood, Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour and Barangaroo. The special highlight of this year's show will be the Argyle Cut put together by Pixar featuring iconic characters from their films Toy Story, Finding Nemo and others. For most of the light fixtures, the lights will come on every day from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Vivid Music
Another major highlight of the Vivid Sydney festival are all the fantastic musical performances held in venues across the city. This year's lineup includes a headline act by The Cure at the Sydney Opera House. RUFUS DU SOL and FKA twigs are scheduled to perform at the Carriageworks. Also featured in the lineup are performances by Folk Like Us, Jonsi, Larry Heard, Peaches and Prunes and many others. That's not all! There's also the most epic dance party of all time, Curve Ball and over 160 music events you can experience!
Vivid Ideas
Vivid Ideas: While not as physically invigorating as the other two categories of events, Vivid Ideas works wonders on guests’ creativity and thoughts. Get ready for industry-shaping forums, talks on challenging topics like love, loss and living, and hands-on workshops that will give you a fresh new perspective on life. Some of the guests announced for this segment include a session with famed podcaster Esther Perek as she looks at love in the times of digital media. Another exciting talk is by iconic Hollywood personality Spike Lee as he discusses the movies he made and his personal politics. Other highlights include Vivid Art After Hours, The Mark Colvin Conversation: Net Worth, and Citizens of the World workshops.
Vivid Sydney Cruises
While there's a certain old-school charm in taking a leisurely walk through the city, breathing in all the breathtaking sights on offer, that's not meant for everyone. If you would rather skip all the walking around and mad crowds, a cruise is a great way to experience the Vivid Sydney festival. A cruise will not only keep you away from the crowds but also offer you a great view of the overall lighting installations that dot the city. Think of it as a panoramic picture. The farther away from the source you're, the better you'll be able to see everything.
Given the obvious (and many!) perks of taking a cruise, there are tons of options you can choose from. While the general route taken by most of these tour operators remains the same, there are differences in things like type of boat, whether food and drinks are included and other facilities and amenities. Our take? Opt for a Vivid cruise that fits your budget and expectations. Have a good idea of what you wish to take from the cruise experience and make your pick accordingly.

Vivid Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb
The Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb is an experience of a lifetime in itself. But when you club it with the magical times of Vivid Sydney, you've got yourself a surreal outing that is hard to match. The summit of the bridge is illuminated to resemble a dance floor and provides you a stunning panoramic of Sydney lit up in all its glory. The Vivid BridgeClimb follows the standard route to the summit of the bridge. However, this unique climb is only available from 24 May to 15 June 2019.

The Best Spots to Watch Vivid Sydney
A big part of Vivid Sydney's appeal is that it's not restricted to one location or venue. There are many areas across the city that showcase either a light show, a musical performance or a talk, or all three. While you could stick to the classics, the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, there's so much more out there in the city that it would be criminal to play it safe. The great thing about exploring the Vivid Sydney festival from various vantage points, especially for tourists, is that it functions as a tour of the city as well. Also, while both the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge feature beautiful installations, they also attract the most crowd. So, by opting for other spots in the city to watch Vivid Sydney, you're also effectively avoiding massive crowds. Here are some of the other places you can head over to:
Circular Quay
Customs House
The Rocks
Chatswood
The MCA and Cadman's Cottage
The Royal Botanic Gardens
Darling Harbour
Taronga Zoo
The Rocks
The Best Tips to Enjoy Vivid Sydney
For an event as expansive and elaborate as the Vivid Sydney festival, it's advisable to be on top of things and plan everything well in advance. Here are a few handy tips to make the experience special for you:
Tickets - While there are no charges for the Vivid Light Walk, you'll have to buy tickets for music and ideas events. These tickets are available at Taronga Zoo and you'd best hurry if you have your heart set on a particular show since tickets tend to sell out fast!
Travel - Avoid bringing your car to the event since very limited parking is available due to road closure across the city for the events. We would recommend opting for public transport to reach the venue.
Planning - Vivid Sydney is a three week event and the last weekend of this three week festival is the most crowded. Plan your visit to ensure it happens around the first few days for a peaceful experience.
Weekends or not - Avoid visiting the festival areas during the weekends since they are the most crowded during that time of the week. If you have to attend during a weekend, go later in the night after 9:00 pm since most of the families have gone back by this time.
Lost & found - Given the crowds involved, it's very possible to lose something. If you have lost an item around the Circular Quay or Harbour Bridge area, contact the Rocks Police Station immediately. If you lose something in another venue, ask around and report the loss at the nearest police station.
Take it easy - Remember, Vivid Sydney is a three week event. Don't rush to see everything in one night since that will affect your experience in a negative way. Take your time and space out your visits accordingly so that you can explore and take in each area at a leisurely pace.

Greenwich Observatory History
When Europeans started exploring the vastness of the deep blue seas of the world as well as the options of trade with their neighbouring countries, there was a necessity of ample capacity of astronomical information; efficiency to assist cartography, navigation, timekeeping and lastly, how to measure longitude. This was resolved when King Charles II decided to look into investing in astronomy. On March 4th 1675, the King was recommended by the Royal Commission for the establishment of Britain’s first state-funded scientific institution, an observatory and the assignment of an astronomer. King Charles reportedly called for immediate action and on the same day, John Flamsteed was named ‘astronomer’ and the first part of the Observatory to be built was the Flamsteed House. In 1818, the Royal Observatory was reassigned to the Admiralty for significant expansion. At present, the Royal Observatory features a record of a working observatory with instruments belonging to the 18th & 19th centuries.

Must-See At The Greenwich Observatory
Flamsteed House
The first part of the Observatory to be built was the Flamsteed House. It was built with the intention to serve as a home for the Royal Astronomer and for the entertainment of their guests. This House has been the home to many astronomers, children, cooks, nursemaids as well as servants. It is considered as one of the most famous spots in the observatory where visitors can go for an audio guide tour to learn more about the house.
Time Ball
Don't forget to watch the red time ball rise and drop at 1 pm, which takes place every day in the yard. In 1833, the first public time signal in England was broadcasted from the roof of Flamsteed House, by dropping a ball at an estimated time. Ever since then, this ceremony takes place each day at 12.55 when the ball hoisted at the centre of a pole, reaches the top at two minutes to the hour and exactly at 1.00, the time ball drops.
Prime Meridian Courtyard
The Prime Meridian Courtyard is a must see when you visit the Royal Observatory. A brass line in the ground is where you find the east meeting the west and you can feel like a superhero with one foot on the eastern hemisphere and the other on the western hemisphere. The Observatory has been the historical origin of the world’s Prime Meridian since the late 19th century. In October 1884, Greenwich was chosen as the Prime Meridian of the World and has also won the prize of Longitude 0º during the International Meridian Conference which was held in Washington D.C.
Great Equatorial Telescope
Gaze upon one of the biggest telescopes in the world as you stand in awe under the stunning fibreglass dome of the Royal Observatory. Land yourself amidst the stars by looking through the telescope during the special Evening with the Stars event. The mount on which the telescope rests rotates on the same axis as that of Earth’s which allows it to follow a star from east to west across the sky. This 28-inch refracting telescope is the seventh largest in the world and should be on your list of places to visit in the Royal Observatory.
Peter Harrison Planetarium
The shows in Peter Harrison planetarium are high quality and the information is absolutely mindblowing. It is highly recommended for everyone, families and couples to visit this planetarium! For the best views of the shows, one can head all the way to the back of the planetarium where the seats are super comfy. If you're an adult who is interested in space then you can also visit some of the night shows. End your day by picking a beautiful picnic spot in the lush green park or stroll around the park.
Plan Your Visit

Fancy an oceanic adventure with your loved ones, then you can opt for arriving in style by boat with the Thames Clipper or a sight-seeing cruise.
Rules & Regulations:
For a hassle-free experience of visitors, staff members and volunteers, refer to the regulations stated by the royal museums official page.
Other Popular Greenwich Attractions
Cutty Sark
An easy to visit spot straight after or before exploring the Greenwich Observatory is the Cutty Sark. Take your kids along to enjoy the preserved ship, games, and some of the remarkable quarters which will surely impress most youngsters and history buffs. It is the only clipper ship left in the world and has travelled across distances that are equivalent to that of the moon and back in its 52-year career as a cargo ship.
Old Royal Naval College
Take a tour of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich to visit the remarkable Painted Hall created by Thornhill which is linked to the Skittle Alley. This one is really worth your time as there is the provision of lots of valuable information. An equally worth visit is to the beautiful Chapel with its grandeur ceiling giving you more options to explore. Wren designed these buildings perfectly. The Painted Hall is where Nelson laid in the state prior to his burial. The grounds are extremely beautiful and a short walk takes you to the visitor centre. The Royal Observatory is not far. Everything else is free.
National Maritime Museum
Explore the National Maritime Museum which is the world’s largest maritime museum. This has an interior which is exceptional with so much to see. It is filled with thousands of artefacts, maps, artwork, chart, and all things marine. The artefacts are well arranged with a perfect blend of objects and pictures. It is spaciously designed and suited for all ages. The museum is easily accessible by bus, boat, train or tube. If you are in Greenwich then this Museum is definitely worth a visit.
Queen’s House
Adjacent to the National Maritime Museum is the Queen’s House which has an exquisite artwork and architecture to mesmerise you with. Step through the doors and find yourself in the impressive Great Hall. This perfectly proportioned hall has a striking marble floor, with a monochrome geometric design originally laid in 1635. The best part about the museum is that the entry is absolutely free. A visit to the Queen's House is a must as part of any day out in Greenwich.

Greenwich Observatory Reviews
"We went with our twin eight-year-old grandchildren and absolutely loved it. There is something magical about standing astride the prime meridian. The science is extremely well explained and the children got a good introduction to time and astronomy. Well worth the £48 for two adults and two children. Greenwich park is lovely and the walk through Greenwich was very interesting. My advice to visitors is to go by boat and get a combined ticket."
- SergeLourie, April 2019 Tripadvisor
“The whole Greenwich area is an amazingly peaceful place, packed with green parks and nice streets. Visit the Observatory, a must see. The nearby maritime museum, too. Allow yourself the whole day for this part of London.“

SEARED Written by Theresa Rebeck (Bernhardt/Hamlet) and directed by Tony nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (MCC’s Hand To God), Seared follows Harry, a brilliant and hot-headed chef, who finds himself on the cusp of fame — if it weren’t for his stubbornness in the face of capitalizing on art. Seared will feature a working onstage kitchen.

ALL THE NATALIE PORTMANS All The Natalie Portmans follows Keyonna, a 16-year-old with a taste for the fantastic and the dramatic, who finds herself on the brink of eviction with her brother Samuel. Billed as “too smart, too gay, and too lonely to fit in”, Keyonna finds refuge in writing to Natalie Portman as her most iconic characters onscreen — and finds them speaking back to her. Written by C.A. Johnson and directed by Kate Whoriskey (Sweat), All The Natalie Portmans makes Keyonna finally confront her sorrows, and find beauty within.

NOLLYWOOD DREAMS Set in 1990s Lagos, Nigeria, as the Nollywood film industry grows and gains fame, Nollywood Dreams follows Ayamma, a girl dreaming of a life onscreen, while working at her parents’ travel agency. When Ayamma gets an audition for a new movie by Nigeria’s most notable director, she finds sparks flying, tensions brewing, and what it means to dream big.  Jocelyn Bioh (MCC’s School Girls…, “She’s Gotta Have It”) returns with the new romantic comedy directed by Saheem Ali (Sugar in our Wounds, Fireflies).

PERRY STREET A leisurely, drama free life gets interrupted in Lucy Thurber’s (MCC’s Transfers) new play Perry Street. While parents Phil and Maggie enjoy their luxurious life in their West Village brownstone, they find feathers ruffled when their daughter comes home from Brown with a new girlfriend. In the vein of great American family dramas, Perry Street explores family, class, and sex, and asks what you’re willing to give up for the people and things you want the most? Perry Street is directed by Thomas Sadoski (“The Newsroom”).

Drink with Caution: ‘Beetlejuice’ Opens on Broadway
(l to r) Rob McClure, Kerry Butler, Sophia Anne Caruso and Alex Brightman in ‘Beetlejuice.’ (Photo: Matthew Murphy)
By Matthew Wexler
About 15 minutes into Beetlejuice, the latest movie-to-musical adaptation to claw its way to Broadway, my eyes began to wander throughout the ornate Winter Garden Theatre. I wondered how quickly the ghosts of its former residents, such as Gypsy, West Side Story and 42nd Street, would be welcoming this garishly pandering endeavor to the afterlife.
Based on Tim Burton’s 1988 campy horror film, the musical similarly follows a newly deceased couple Barbara and Adam (Kerry Butler and Rob McClure) when fellow ghost, Beetlejuice (Alex Brightman), arrives hankering to wreak havoc on the house’s new owners: a widower (Adam Dannheisser), his gloomy teen daughter (Sophia Anne Caruso), and his new girlfriend (Leslie Kritzer).
The loose plot, executed with varying degrees of humor ranging from laugh-out-loud to offensive, keeps things moving at a pace befitting a Universal Studios theme park show. Unfortunately (not unlike King Kong, its lumbering neighbor a few blocks north), the $21 million spectacle suffers an artistic heart attack from over-exertion.
That isn’t to say that some audience won’t appreciate scenic designer David Korns’ various forced-perspective sets, richly illuminated by lighting designer Kenneth Posner, or the exquisite costume designs of William Ivey Long, including a gratuitous but delightful monochromatic collection for the curtain call. Getting to that point, though, may be the death of you.
youtube
Brightman (School of Rock) vacillates from high comedy to foul-mouthed deadpan. When he sings in the opening number, “I do this bullshit like eight times a week,” you have to feel for the guy. One hopes that his guttural inflections don’t permanently damage his vocal cords for whatever opportunities lie ahead.
Caruso, taking on a role iconically stamped by a young Winona Ryder, also has a bright future. Here, her adolescent angst well serves composer Eddie Perfect’s moody melodies, though each number ends with an ambiguously defiant stance, fist to the air as if she were going take flight.
(l to r) Leslie Kritzer and Adam Dannheisser in ‘Beetlejuice.’ (Photo: Matthew Murphy)
The real gem of the bunch, though (and long overdue for her time in the Broadway spotlight), is Kritzer, who most adeptly manages to strike the chord of brash humor and endearing vulnerability. With the comedic timing of Lucille Ball and a stratospheric vocal range, one hopes that her journey to the Netherworld might also open doors to future leading roles.
Besides its film fans, it’s unclear for whom Beetlejuice is intended. Scott Brown and Anthony King’s book frequently drops f-bombs — fine for teens but perhaps unnecessarily crude for tots. More disconcerting is its dated and offensive stereotyping of same-sex attraction as the butt of crude jokes. Unapologetically polyamorous, Beetlejuice pinches, gropes and harasses Adam, and we’re all supposed to guffaw at his advances. But it’s not funny. More worrisome is its cliché message about hypersexualizing gay culture, exemplifying book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King’s strained attempts at shock value.
Director Alex Timbers, who also helmed the short-lived Rocky, returns this summer with the highly-anticipated Moulin Rouge! His efforts here will likely soon be forgotten, as will the death of another Broadway musical. In an uncomfortable bit of cultural appropriation, Miss Argentina in the Underworld sings, “Ask the recently deceased, death is final and you cannot press rewind.” Let’s keep it that way.

Located in the heart of Seville, it is a UNESCO protected royal widely renowned as a beautiful example of Moorish architecture, especially for it’s outstanding examples of Mudéjar architecture. We have a couple of hacks that will get you last minute Alcazar Seville tickets. Read on to know how.

Good To Know Before You Go
Frequently Asked Questions
Real Alcazar of Seville, Reales Alcazares or Royal Alcazar of Seville?
First things first, getting the name right. The Alcazar of Seville goes by several names - Royal Alcazar of Seville which translates to Real Alcazar of Seville in Spanish and Reales Alcazares of Seville which again translates to Royal Palaces of Seville in Spanish. Sometimes, you may also hear it being referred to as the Alcazar Castle in Seville, but that one's definitely wrong as the Alcazar is Palace and not a Castle.
But I think what the locals call it makes the most sense - Reales Alcazares. This is because the Alcazar Seville constitutes a number of palaces built by different rulers over different times. However, the official website still calls it the Real Alcazar of Seville, but that's just maybe because that's the more popular lingo!
Types Of Alcazar Seville Tickets
Before looking at different ways to get Alcazar Seville tickets, know the 3 different types of tickets you have the option to purchase.
General Admission Tickets - These are the most basic tickets (€ 12.5) which give you access to the ground floor of the palace complex and gardens. You don't have the skip the line option or guided tour on these tickets basic tickets, but they can be purchased online in advance. Should you want, you can purchase on audio guide on-ground to compliment these tickets.
Royal Apartments Tickets - These tickets give you access to the furnished royal palace upper floor which may be added to the general admission. They cost €17 and you are assigned a slot as per availablity on the date of your convinience. Online reservations in advance are highly advisable. Note, most morning guided tours give you access to the Royal Apartments.
Skip The Line Tickets - These fast track tickets allow you to skip the lines and avoid the queues that could take up to 1-2 hours and waltz in by just flashing your mobile tickets. They are economical, hassle free and simply the best! You also have the option to pair this up with an audio guide, should you like to learn some interesting commentary of the surroundings during your visit.
Skip the Line Tickets With Guided Tour- This one's the real deal, my personal favourite. You are entrusted with a historian guide who will usher you in, away from the crowds and give you an impeccable tour of the Alcazar. Nothing beats having a tour guide in a place immersed in such history. Honestly, no audio guide, book or even google can do justice to the lores and facts this local historian guide can give you.
The Combo Deal : Alcazar + Cathedral - Seville has 2 prime attractions - the Alcazar and the Cathedral of Seville. If you're planning to visit them both, why not grab a combo ticket and save a few euros? Also, you can do away with the hassle of buying two seperate tickets and have them bundled into one! Makes sense? Yes!
A Night Tour : For the night owls, here's a tour that you'll love. Exploring the city of Seville at night is a sight that words often fail to evoke. However, note that you will not be allowed entry into the Alcazar, but you will be able to see the General Archive of the Indies, the Alcazar palace complex, and the Seville Cathedral on this night tour. PS: You get to visit Casa de la Guitarra and enjoy a traditional flamenco show! If you're in Seville for just an evening, this experience is your best bet.

Different Ways To Get Alcazar Seville Tickets
Official Website
Tickets for the Real Alcazar of Seville is easily available on their official website. While you do have to pay a €1 surcharge for the privilege of booking online, any euro that allows you to skip past the queues and head straight in, is a euro well spent in my books. Tickets on the website sell out months in advance, so make sure you grab them well before your day of visit.
Third Party Vendors
The best part about third party vendors like Headout is that you get to score a few discounts on your purchase as compared to the official website prices. Moreover, you have the option of buying combo deals, night tours and other deals that the website may not offer you.
The Guided Tours
To get the best of your Real Alcazar Seville experience, I would say go for a guided tour with no second thoughts! Having a local historian guide who relays the history, facts and lores of the Alcazar enhances your experience leaps and bounds. I know they are slightly costlier, but trust me, it is well worth your money. Moreover, these guided tours allow skip the line access and they are an absolute boon during peak hours/season
On-Site Purchase
This is most definitely the easiest and cheapest way to get tickets are it involves no planning. You just have to turn up and stand in a queue to get your ticket. However, queues to buy tickets for the Alcazar Sevilla can be long, slow and very, very hot. Temperatures in Seville reach 40 degrees celsius during summers and by the time you get your tickets, you probably want to head home for a nap! However, if you do want to save the €1 fee charged on online bookings, this one's your best resort.

Alcazar Seville Hours
October to March: From Monday to Sunday, 09:30 to 17:00 April to September: From Monday to Sunday, 09:30 to 19:00 Closed on the 1st and 6th of January, Good Friday and the 25th of December Free Mondays 16:00 to 17:00 (October-March) and 18:00 to 19:00 (April-September)
Good To Know Before You Go
If you're purchasing tickets on the official website, make sure you use a Mastercard and not a Visa Card. Many people have faced difficulties in their payment going through with a Visa Card. Headout does accept all cards, hence go ahead and purhcase from Headout if you have a Visa card. You'll face no issues.
Admission is free on Monday during the final hour of the day. However, I'd recommend buying online tickets (€1) for this time too, as on busy days, i.e. almost all Mondays, visitors queuing without tickets may not gain admission. This is because on Mondays, the number of visitors allowed into the palace complex remains limited to keep the crowds in check. Spend the €1 and you'll have an assured entry on the free Monday.
The Royal Apartments (Cuarto Real Alto) constitute the 15 rooms on the upper floor of the palace that required an additional ticket and is open for visit only until 13:30 daily. You can purchase the Royal Apartment tickets while booking your general admission tickets or make a reservation at the dedicated desk as soon as you enter the complex. Note, admission to the royal apartments is strictly by time slot reservations and the time printed on your tickets are for entering the Royal Apartments, not the Alcazar complex.
The best times to visit the Real Alcazar Palace, like most top tourist sites in Europe is first thing in the morning (9:30 AM) or towards the end of the day. Avoid weekends and holidays as much as you can. The Alcazar is noted to be busiest from just before 11:00 to mid-afternoon, so avoid these times too.
You have limited food options inside the complex. The cafeteria in the garden serves basic snacks and drinks and is the only café in the complex.
Toilets are available off the Patio de la Monteria before entering the main Mudejar palace. It's close to the café, at the far end of the garden.
Parking at the Real Alcazar can be tight. It's best that you leave your car in one of the parking lots in the city centre and walk from there.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if the tickets are sold out?
If the tickets you want are sold out, your best bet is buying a guided tour ticket. They are almost always available, especially last minute. The combo tours with the Alcazar and Cathedral visit are also available last minute.
Is the Alcazar Seville Guided Tour recommended?
Definitely! Nothing beats an expert guide taking you through the rooms and passages of Alcazar, narrating the stories and lores that the walls of the palace have sealed for centuries. No audio-guide or book can do justice to this experience, and who would you ask questions if you want to know something more about the Moorish clan? A guided tour is recommended all the way!
Can I visit only the Gardens of Alcazar?
Unfortunately, no. There is no ticket that covers only the gardens. You will have to purchase the General Ticket which includes both, the palaces and the gardens.
Can I visit only the Royal Apartments of Alcazar?
Unfortunately, no. There is no ticket that covers only the Royal apartments. You will have to purchase the General Ticket along with the Royal Apartments to gain entry.
What is the cancellation policy for Alcazar Seville Tickets?
Depending on the ticket, the cancellation policy varies. If you're looking for a flexible cancellation policy ticket, you can buy the Fast Track Guided Tour to Alcazar of Seville that allows you to cancel 24 hours in advance for a full refund or the Alcázar, Seville Cathedral and La Giralda Guided Tour which again allows for a full refund 24 hours in advance. If your plans are not concrete, you can opt for these tickets. Note, the cheaper tickets can have a stricter cancellation policy and the ones bought off the website cannot be cancelled.
Is there a way to see the Real Alcazar for free?
The Real Alcazar of Seville can be viewed for free on Mondays. Again, it’s best you pre-book your ticket for 1 Euro even for those free days so that you can skip the lines. If you are under 16 years of age, born in Seville or a citizen of Seville you can visit the Alcazar for free every day of the year. Note, only the general admission tickets are free and not guided tours.
What is the best time to visit the Real Alcazar of Seville?
As with most tourist attractions in Europe, it’s best to avoid visiting on weekends, especially during summers and holiday seasons. It's best to make it during a weekday in a shoulder season such as spring or autumn. It also helps if you pick a time slot which is very early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Is there a baggage check at the entrance?
Yes. There are baggage checks, but they are not airport style. If you have a big backpack, you'll have to lock it away in a locker for EUR 1.
Are there any limitations on Photography?
Photography is not an issue unless you want to take commercial pictures or use a tripod, which is not allowed inside. Drones are prohibited as well.

How much time should I keep aside for a sedate visit?
I'd recommend keeping aside 3 hours for a leisure visit of Alcazar.
Is the Alcazar Seville a child-friendly attraction? Are there reduced prices?
Yes, of course. Kids will definitely enjoy the gardens of Generalife and though they may not appreciate the architecture, they will have a good time. That said, you can’t bring a stroller/buggy into the Nasrid Palace or Generalife. You can deposit the strollers while you’re visiting this part of the complex and take it back from the rest. However, baby carriers are allowed in all parts of the complex.
Children from 3 to 11 years have reduced ticket prices and kids below the age of 3 have free entry.

This Ain’t No Spelling Bee: ‘safeword.’
‘safeword.’ (Photo: Mati Gelman)
By Ryan Leeds
It’s a kinky little world in which we live. In S. Asher Gelman’s world of role play, it’s also pretty far fetched. His new play, safeword., attempts to introduce audiences to bondage, domination, and sadomasochism, but mostly, it’s a lukewarm drama with whips and chains.
Gelman established himself as a thoughtful provocateur with his first work, Afterglow (though the recent Chicago production didn’t live up to its NYC premiere). The 2017 sleeper hit began with three naked men: a married couple and a third guy with whom they’ve opened their relationship. Gelman deftly explored the boundaries that couples create for themselves and the issues raised in an open partnership.
In safeword., he treads many of those same ideas, but the scenarios often seem too contrived. Take, for example, the fact that Micah (Joe Chisholm) and Lauren (Traci Elaine Lee) live in the same New York City apartment building as Micah’s slave master, Xavier (Jimmy Brooks), and his partner, Chris (Maybe Burke). Chris and Lauren “had seen each other around a lot” but only recently became friends. When Lauren invites him and Xavier to dinner, Micah recognizes his neighbor. Awkwardness ensues.
“I just couldn’t imagine Micah with anyone else. Even thinking about it makes me uncomfortable,” Lauren confesses. She’s convinced that her husband has never strayed. How does Micah explain the marks on his back? Crossfit. I’m no expert of that exercise regimen, but I’m quite certain that frequent trips to a slave dungeon might leave more dramatic scars.
‘safeword.’ (Photo: Mati Gelman)
Micah’s obsession with the man upstairs is also a bit implausible. Is there no one else on the island of Manhattan who can fulfill his desires? Apparently not. “I need you,” he pleads to Xavier. “It’s not the same with anyone else; I’ve tried. Please!”
Furthermore, if one were to cheat on a spouse on an ongoing basis, shouldn’t discretion lead you somewhere further than an elevator ride away? Later, the obsession turns dangerous as a near-death situation unfolds at Xavier’s place. Fortunately, Chris is a nurse practitioner — how convenient! For as messy and complicated as these lives are, they certainly find fast and easy solutions.
The major problem with this play is in the approach. Gelman wins major accolades for highlighting difficult topics (some of which the closest of couples don’t discuss). Yet here, it translates into the stuff of corporate training videos. “I have a million questions,” Lauren tells Chris when she first learns what his boyfriend does for a living. From there, the Q&A session indicates rather than relays a story.
Consequently, it doesn’t give the cast enough material to savor. Pacing is also problematic. At a recent performance, it seemed as though the foursome had not yet settled into the text. Perhaps that will improve as it continues to run, but given the clunky script, it’ll be an uphill climb.
vimeo
safeword., also struggles in its forced attempt at provocation. Gelman wants to titillate his audience with simulated BDSM scenes, but they feel extraneous and leave little to the imagination. Slick provocateurs don’t try to provoke, they simply do it. Here, the plot screams, “Look at how provocative this is! Aren’t we daring?” No, not really.
The best praise in all of this can be found in Ann Beyersdorfer’s set. Its 360-degree design gives us a full view of the entire apartment complex in which these characters dwell.
Gelman, who also directed, derived his title from a pre-discussed word or signal that is used when couples wish to end a particular activity. After 100 minutes — which could have easily been trimmed to 75 — I found mine: “ho-hum.”
safeword. American Theatre of Actors 314 West 54th Street NYC Through July 7

Why climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Though there are a dozen other famous bridges across the globe, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the most climbed with over 4 million climbers. The reason most people do this fearless act is that the thrill is worth every step you take. The 3.5 hours of climbing to the summit of the bridge is certainly not easy, but however not the most difficult. Anyone who is above the age of 8, fit enough and willing to take this adventure is allowed to climb. If you have a sporty spirit and love the feeling of your heart thumping, this climb is going to be a memory you will relish for years to come. Take the climb and cross out this adventurous toil off your bucket list.
The experience of climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge
Arrival at the Base Camp

Your climbing experience starts as soon as you arrive at the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb Base. Once you’re outfitted in your special bridge climbing suit, you will be accompanied by the climb leader to the Gantry. The Gantry is a scale model of the bridge’s ramp and it helps you get an understanding of the bridge climb ahead of you.
Before The Climb

You will then be given all the outdoor equipment you would need in order to safely and successfully climb the bridge. For safety reasons, all personal belongings are to be stored in the locker facilities available at the base camp. The only thing you need to carry with you are enclosed shoes and sunglasses, if required. Once you’re ready, your climb leader will take you through a purpose-built tunnel before you enter the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The Climb

Your climb leader will guide you to the summit and engage you with the history of the bridge. He will also interest you with the stories from the day it was constructed to the importance of its existence today. As you mount up the arches of the bridge standing over the most beautiful Harbour in the world, you will view Sydney as you've never before.

Reaching the summit is a tremendous task. It will take you three and a half hours, 1,332 steps of steely determination and past four ladders before you reach the top. A photograph at this moment will be taken so you could save this memory before you descend back to the base.
Choosing the right BridgeClimb Experience
While some may have the impulsivity to climb to the summit, others may not have enough time or have a fear of heights. Various factors such as time, fitness, height and time of ascending matter while picking the right climb. You can choose the best climbing experience that suits your convenience. You can also choose the time you want to take the climb from the time slots available.

West End Guide: Old Vic Theatre Seating Plan | All My Sons
About The Theatre
Seating Plan
All My Sons
Navigating the Old Vic Theatre Seating Plan
The Old Vic Theatre houses 1020 seats in total, spread across three sections, namely stalls, dress circle and Lilian Baylis circle. The theatre doesn't feature the smooth round edges most big West End theatre boast but has a more jagged arrangement of seats. Let's look at each section in detail to give you a better idea of the Old Vic Theatre seating plan. You might want to read up this information before heading out to watch All My Sons.
Old Vic Theatre - All My Sons Ticket Prices

Old Vic Theatre - Recommended Seats
• Value for money seats Last two rows in stalls and seats in Lilian Baylis circle • Best views of the stage Stalls - Rows E-L Dress Circle - Middle seats in rows A-D • Sufficient legroom Stalls - Front row seats
Old Vic Theatre Stalls
The largest seating section in the theatre by a huge margin, the Old Vic Theatre holds 543 seats in total. These seats are spread across 22 rows from A to X and are numbered in the range of 3 to 35 moving left to right. There's no central aisle in this section to segregate the seats, forming a big chunk of seats. Rows at the end of the section become wider and curve slightly towards the end. Still, the great rake in the stalls ensure that other audience members don't block your view.
Avoid seats in the first few rows since the theatre is at a height and you might have to crane your neck slightly to watch the performance. Also, row Q has support pillars and the rear rows feature the dress circle overhang, partially obstructing the view.
Check out the real-time seat availability of the Stalls in the Old Vic Theatre.
Old Vic Theatre Dress Circle
The dress circle section is the first of the two elevated levels of the theatre and holds a total of 208 seats. There are five rows in the section from A to E and three additional rows on either side of the section. The seats are numbered from 4 to 34, moving from left to right. This section is very shallow and wraps around the theatre, giving audiences a side view of the stage if they pick a corner seat. This is offset by the fact that the section features an excellent rake.
Rows A to E feature support pillars that restrict the views partially, with row C being the worst of the lot. Seats at the end of the section offer a great view of the stage, although they're quite narrow.
Check out the real-time seat availability of the Dress Circle in the Old Vic Theatre.
Old Vic Theatre Lilian Baylis Circle
Named after one of the Old Vic Theatre's managers, the Lilian Baylis circle section houses 269 seats. The section features a layout similar to the dress circle with a central block of seats and two rows that extend on the sides. There are seven rows in the central block from A to G which are numbered in the range of 2 to 36. We would recommend avoiding the corner row seats as they're are pretty much benches and very uncomfortable. The front two rows of the central batch are quite restricted while rows C to E offer a decent view of the stage.
Check out the real-time seat availability of the Lilian Baylis Circle in the Old Vic Theatre.
Which Seats Offer The Best View?
Given just how diverse and offbeat the structure of the Old Vic Theatre is, you can't rely on the regular seats to offer the best view. Opt for the middle row in the stalls section for the best view of the stage since there's no obstruction and the view offered is clear and direct. Specifically, you can pick the middle seats in rows E to L. If you prefer to watch the show from a height, opt for seats in rows A to D of the dress circle. The middle seats in these rows offer a great panoramic view of the stage and don't face any obstructions.
Which Seats Offer the Best Value for Money?
If you want to have a great experience at the theatre but are unwilling to spend on premium seats, value-for-money seats are your best bet. You can opt for the last two rows in the stalls section for a perfectly clear view of the stage. Legroom would be an issue here, but the price of the seats makes up for it! You can also pick seats in the Lilian Baylis circle for some great deals. Opt for the back row seats in this section as they offer a decent view of the stage and are quite cheap. The only downside? These seats feel a little far off from the stage since they're at the literal end of the theatre.

West End Guide: Old Vic Theatre London | All My Sons
About The Theatre
Seating Plan
All My Sons
A not-for-profit producing theatre located on the corner of the Cut in Lambeth, London, the Old Vic is a popular West End house. The theatre was established in 1818 and named the Royal Coburg Theatre. In 1871, the theatre underwent major renovation and was reopened as the Royal Victoria Palace. While the theatre had earned the “Old Vic” nickname by 1880, it was officially renamed the Old Vic Theatre. In 1940, the building was damaged by air raids and reopened in 1951, becoming a Grade II listed building. In 1963, the Old Vic company was retired and overtaken by the new National Theatre Company under the direction of Laurence Olivier. Post the departure of the National Theatre Company, the Old Vic Theatre continued hosting a fine mix of new and classic dramas. In 1998, the building was acquired by a newly created charitable trust, the Old Vic Theatre Trust. Kevin Spacey was named the new artistic director of the theatre in 2004 and brought in a creative selection of British and American talent to the West End stage.
The Old Vic Theatre has been home to a truly diverse range of productions from Shakespearean classics to contemporary hits like Present Laughter. Some of the most iconic shows hosted in the theatre include, All About My Mother, The Taming of The Shrew, The Duchess of Malfi, Hedda Gabler, The Winslow Boy, Much Ado About Nothing, The Crucible, High Society, Groundhog Day, King Lear and many others. Presently, the theatre is hosting a production of All My Sons, considered one of Arthur Miller's best works. Make your trip to the theatre memorable and comfortable with our Old Vic Theatre seating plan guide which has all the information you need from best seats to nearby restaurants.

Now Playing at Old Vic Theatre London
All My Sons
Written in 1947 by Arthur Miller for Broadway, All My Sons debuted in the Great White Way on 29th January, 1947 and ran for 328 performances. A tragedy based on a true story Miller came across on the newspaper, All My Sons masterfully brings together fiction and reality for an emotionally resonant tale about family. After multiple productions across the globe, the show makes a triumphant return to West End at the Old Vic Theatre for a limited engagement. The show officially opened on 23rd April with bookings open till 8th June.
The 2019 West End revival of All My Sons is directed by Jeremy Herrin of Labour of Love fame and will be telecast on May 14th worldwide as part of the National Theatre Live. Leading the cast in the title roles are Sally Field and Bill Pullman. Joining them on stage are Jenna Coleman, Colin Morgan, Bessie Carter, and more.
The Story
A captivating tale of guilt, love and the intoxicating allure of greed best describes All My Sons. The story begins as Joe Keller, a family man, is accused of supplying World War II fighter jets with defective engines. Innocent pilots die as a result of this and Keller's business partner takes the blame. Devastatingly enough, one of Keller's sons, himself a pilot, is presumed dead in the accident. The mother is unable to come to terms with the death of her son and struggles to grapple with the fact that her dead son's fiance is more than willing to move on with her other son. All these varying threads come together in an explosive finale which ends with the reveal of a shameful family secret.

Practical Information
Section Accessibility
Stalls: This is the most accessible section out of the three and is virtually step-free thanks to a temporary ramp available at the alternative entrance.
Dress Circle: You need to take 29 steps up from the foyer to access the dress circle section. Since there's no customer lift in the theatre, this section should be avoided by patrons with limited mobility.
Lillian Baylis Circle: The last section of the theatre, Lilian Baylis circle can be reached by climbing up 49 steps from the foyer. This section is also not recommended for patrons with limited mobility due to the lack of a customer lift.
Available Facilities
Wheelchair Accessible: Given the design of the Old Vic Theatre, there's very limited wheelchair-accessible spaces and all of them are in the stalls section. Wheelchair spaces are available in the aisle next to rows V and N. These two spaces are the only wheelchair-accessible ones in the theatre but both offer a good view of the stage. Patrons who require assistance with the wheelchair can reach out to the staff who are on hand to help.
Restroom: Toilets for both men and women are available in all three sections of the theatre. An accessible unisex toilet is also located at the alternative entrance and has support handrails in place to further assist patrons.
Bar: Penny, previously known as The Pit Bar, has temporarily moved to the first floor due the refurbishment happening at the theatre presently. The bar is open throughout the day and serves drinks, snacks, and sandwiches for patrons. For users with limited mobility, mobile drink-sellers will be available in the stalls section. In the Lilian Baylis circle, Mark's Bar serves drinks from 6 pm onwards.
Assistive Listening System: The auditorium is equipped with a Sennheiser Infrared System and there are two types of hearing devices available for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing. These are headsets and neck loops which can be collected from the main foyer before the performance begins.
Cloakroom: A cloakroom is available in the foyer level for patrons to store their small items for a cost of £1 per item. Large bags will not be checked in to the cloakroom and won't be allowed inside the auditorium either, so pack accordingly.
Handy Tips
The Old Vic Theatre is presently undergoing some renovation work to enable easier access and add more ladies restrooms. This really won't affect your experience at the theatre but be prepared for certain structural changes when you reach the theatre.
If you happen to be late for your show, don't worry since there's a late-comers point for most shows. There are appropriate moments in the show when a staff member will escort you to your seat.
The theatre has many retail outlets selling show merchandise, confectionery, and ice creams. Just reach out to a staff member and they will point you in the direction of the nearest shop.
Hot food is not allowed inside the theatre and the bars only serve cold sandwiches to comply with this rule. Patrons are not allowed to take an open drink outside the show, so finish your drink before leaving. Also, only plastic containers are allowed inside the auditorium.
You might be filmed during the show for some promotional material. If you're not comfortable with that, please drop a mail to [email protected] so that your photo or video can be removed.
If you need to book one of the wheelchair spaces in the stalls, please contact the theatre staff to ensure that the seats don't get sold out beforehand.
