karlach has to stop jokingly saying she wants something because wyll "hopeless romantic" "eager to please" ravengard always takes it way too seriously. they enter the mason's guild and she's like "maybe we'll find a nice big hammer for karlach" and wyll painstakingly collects every single hammer they find in there and presents it to her when they're resting catalogued by size and sturdiness and hand tested "although of course my technique can't hold a candle to yours, my love" and when she tries to tell him that was mostly a joke and those hammers aren't as good for fighting as the actual warhammer she already has he looks so dejected and disappointed she simply has to fight with some rusty lumphammer for a week. she's like "I'd like to dance a waltz" and at the end of the day wyll has somehow spontaneously learned how to summon an orchestra and decorated the whole camp. how did he do that? he was out fighting cultists the whole day! she has no clue but he did and by the gods is he going to waltz her until he physically cannot anymore. she almost regrets saying she wanted a hug so many times because now whenever they have free time he's all over her like a koala (she loves it). etc etc. it only gets worse in avernus too. "wyll i know i said i wished there was a banquet but we're in literal hell you didn't have to procure a chef" "id do it a thousand times over to see you smile". etc. all of this is canon btw the devs told me so in a dream

So while I do not like this friendship that Eloise is going to have with Cressida I do think it will be good for her in the long run.

We all seen Eloise struggle with empathy, most of the times she doesn't even try to be empathetic to her own siblings, much less people outside of her household. I think this new friendship with Cressida is going to give her a crash course by making Eloise what Penelope was in their friendship.

What got me started thinking this was Claudia Jessie's comment about how Cressida was kind to Eloise during a time that no one else was. Then we saw them in those brief moments interacting. Eloise's outfit complimented Cressida's when they were walking together. Then at the show Eloise is shown to be leaning in towards Cressida while Cressida is sitting up straight and looking forward.

At the moment it very much gives off that Cressida is the one leading between the two of them, a spot Eloise took up in her friendship with Penelope. Which it wouldn't surprise me if Eloise was taking this step back approach. Look at the mess she got into last season by choosing to beat to her own drum. Perhaps she thought she needed to actually join in and put some effort on society functions this season. (Which honestly wouldn't be bad for her either) My question for this though is how far is Eloise going to take this new direction and at what point is she going to realize that what is potentially happening to her with Cressida is what she did to Penelope. I think Colin could potentially play a role in that by pointing it out to Eloise, they are supposed to grow closer this season. But we'll see where it leads. Either way I do think it will benefit her in the long run with her empathy struggle, especially with her future storyline with Phillip.

I also think this might our chance to learn more about Cressida and other debutants. Cressida has been the stereotypical mean girl, queen bee thrown into a regency setting. But we also know her mother thinks little of her accomplishments with only a big dowry in her favor and that's pretty much it. Be interesting to dive into her mind a little bit and take a look at her motives. Even if they are self-serving and her trying to gain social capital via befriending the most popular family in the ton. I don't think she'll necessarily will be redeemed or turn genuinely nice, but I do think we'll get some explanations for her behavior.

I was already having a rough day. And this is really sad.

Working on Love Island the Game wasn't always easy in a variety of ways, especially at the end, but even after most of us were laid off amid dramatic circumstances, more than two years ago now, it was nice knowing that some people enjoyed our work that was still out there.

The Season 3 episodes and scenes, and the ones I edited, were my first experiences in a game studio team (shoutout to the scenes with Tai, Rafi, and Lily that were the first pieces of writing I did on the game!). I learned so much from that, from The Wedding, Chelsea's Murder Mystery and The Boat Party, from all the prototypes and ideation that never went anywhere (that wonderful Regency-era Noah art... sigh...), from how the characters and storylines came together for Season 4 aka Bombshell (I loved coming up with the original concepts for Bruno, and Oliver, and Juliet, and Lexi, and Tiffany, and Valentina, and Kobi, and Hazeem: absolute joys to write and to see other writers bringing them extra sparks of life, and to do the same with helping bring other writers' concepts to life, and to start doing all sorts of exciting senior role stuff). It was very sad and stressful when it turned out that we couldn't be there to complete Season 4 in as polished a way as all of us wanted.

I'm still friends with many of the people I worked with on Love Island the Game and our other projects, and the things that didn't end up going out there, and I've worked with some of them since which was an absolute pleasure. I saw a lot of them earlier this month, and chatted with one on a video call just this morning. The way it ended for us was very painful, but a lot of it up to that point was so much fun.

There will still be some of the work I did for Love Island the Game out there in Season 4/Bombshell and Matchmaker. But what a shame that a huge chunk of the work we all did, and the work before my time that got the studio its audience in the first place, turns out to be so ephemeral.

I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.

Ursa didn’t play favorites.

Ursa didn’t think Azula was a monster.

Ursa simply, unequivocally, just didn’t enable Azula’s worst traits like Ozai did.

Ozai’s favorite child was Azula, but Ursa still loved her more.

Because enabling isn’t love.

What did Ozai’s enabling do? It made Azula into the type of person to never have any loyal friends. It made the type of person that Mai and Tai Lee would betray at the risk of their own lives.

Ursa pushed Azula to be with her friends. To be with Zuko. Ozai pushed Ursa away, and both kids suffered for it. Azula became a sadist, enjoying seeing her brother get burned—while Zuko was pushed away because he cared for his people.

Azula thought her mom hated her because her mom was the only one who cared enough to tell her no.

AND ANOTHER THING

Favoritism for Astarion aside, I think no one sees the tragedy in Wyll because he never really strays from "being good". We're never really given a moment where his actions had costs larger than himself. If he'd refused Mizora's pact, he'd obviously have the guilt of any lives lost on his shoulders. He accepted it though. If you're unshakable in your goodness there's no way you can be unhappy, clearly you're content with all your choices. WHICH IS THE POINT OF WYLL! HE DOESN'T REGRET HIS CHOICES BUT HE ISN'T HAPPY EITHER!

Astarion's whole thing is how fucking hard it is to be good, how easy it is to be a bad person. That's where Wyll comes into play! He showcases how often doing the right thing comes at a personal cost! That's the actual struggle with Wyll. In his efforts for justice he's losing himself. People aren't infinite resources, yet Wyll gives and sacrifices and takes the hits like he'll never run dry.

The parallel themes of identity loss, the balance one most walk between altruism and selfishness, when does doing good at the detriment of yourself become detrimental to others as well, how can someone justify their selfishness, their sacrifices, when does someone need to tell you to stop giving, to stop taking? Hello? Do you hear me?? Is anyone there??? Look at it, LOOK AT ALL OF IT *starts gnawing at the bars*

It's so weird seeing how adultified by both the text and fandom Wyll has been. When we meet him in game, if you look past the scars, and then later the devil ridges, he's honestly very baby-faced. I can't even imagine how young he looked when he actually made his pact. At SEVENTEEN. As a CHILD.

Like why are all the dialogue options mean when you find out about his father, pact, etc. He wasn't some gnarled, wise adventurer when Mizora preyed on him, he was a good hearted kid who just wanted to save his city and the people in it and was manipulated into thinking that the only way to do that was to literally SELL HIS SOUL. And of course he wouldn't tell you about his father, the man threw him out. He loved his dad and when he needed him most the man tossed him away. He didn't just lose his house either, he was banished from the whole city, essentially pushed out into the wilds. OF-FAKAN-COURSE he's going to have immense trauma from that.

The whole persona he has seems like a coping mechanism and it's so bizarre that fans can love a character for becoming even more of a piece of shit because of trauma, but call another boring and annoying because his trauma response was to throw himself into heroism and helping others. If he went "Chee all you fakas" and went holo holo in the woods, I wouldn't even blame him, but he was out there saving lives where he could while literally being bound to the whims of a DEVIL.

Anyway, I am a Wyll stan first and a human second.
