Tea and Piglins
Tea quietly chuckled as Zephyr unsuccessfully try to hide his drawing from her, using his rotting arm to block half of the paper from her watchful gaze. Crayons, pencils, and pieces of paper were scattered across the wooden floor of the cabin she had built for the zombified piglin brothers.
Truth be told, while it was kind of annoying having to hear the squeals of the youngest piglin and then the loud grunts from the older ones, they weren’t half bad. On the contrary, they were her source of entertainment when the other ragtags were out and about doing their own thing.
Zephyr, adopted child of Strix and Neptune. Tea had no idea where he came from, but according to Strix, the little guy popped out from the nether portal while she was exploring the area. Both of his parents became attached to him and decided to take him in… by making him live with his newly appointed aunt.
The kid was pure and bright without any trace of corruption. Not that it lasted though, not with the way he called for his aunt for help when a creeper fell from the ceiling and exploded right next to him. Tea only watched him struggle until he couldn’t take the pain anymore and died on the spot.
She had to hold back the laughter threatening to come out of her mouth when Strix held Zeph in his arms and cried.
Papers being flipped reached her ears as Zephyr handed her a greed crayon and telling her to color the trees in one of his drawings. While she was doing what she was told, she threw a glance at the bunk-bends where another piglin sat.
Michael, son of the redstone engineer and current king of the End, was as silent as a creeper. Always writing in his journal and looking far off in the distance. He was always in his own world, only speaking in piglin when prompted and interacting when it was required of him. He wasn’t close with anyone – having to live in the Nether for several years without social interaction has damaged this one’s ability to socialize.
Scars adorned every inch of his skin, a reminder of the harsh times he had experienced living in the Nether. It was amusing watching him squirm in discomfort every time she poked it and force him to tell where each scar came from.
The last piglin in the cabin must have noticed her staring as he walked right in front of her, completely blocking Michael from her sights. She sighed in her heart and rolled her eyes – overprotective much?
Cain, an orphan who shouldn’t be underestimated, was an interesting fellow. Tea had always viewed piglins as mindless creatures, mores so with zombified ones with the exception of Michael, who grew up with his parents giving him an actual education, and Zephyr who was being taught by both his parents and Michael.
Cain, on the other hand, had no one and lived in the nether for most of his life. He had jumped out of the nether portal one day while Tea was coming back from building the church. The two were at a sudden stalemate.
Both wanted to kill the other.
However, Tea saw this as another way of entertainment.
Strix became paranoid leaving Zephyr in her care after having to resurrect his son for the third time, and Michael followed suit. While she was disappointed that she couldn’t bother them as much anymore, she was still happy that she was finally alone in her tower.
But now she was bored. And a bored Tea is something no one wants to face.
Making up her mind, she pulled out her communicator and sent Strix a message about their new villager.
They gave him the name Cain, after a man they read about in a book.
At first she didn’t think too much of him, she talked to him, poked him, pulled his ears, and ate porkchops in front of him, but he didn’t react. However his act didn’t fool the ghast hybrid; she was an expert in pretending and she knew Cain was wary of her.
Even after three months, he was still on guard everytime she walks by their cabin. Tea wouldn’t be surprised if he climbed up her tower and killed her in her sleep.
Zephyr jumped up in joy and finally showed his drawing to Tea.
Six stick figures all varying in heights occupied the white spaces of the paper and all of them were holding hands. She doesn’t have to use her brain to figure out who these people were
Strix, Neptune, Tea, Michael, Cain, and Zephyr.
A drawing of a happy family, an image that Zeph held dear to his heart.
If only he knew what they truly were.
Tea patted him on the head and showered him with praises, each cornier than the previous one.
It was uncertain when Tea will eventually betray the village and leave her friends behind for newer ones, but as long as she never felt bored, she’ll continue to be the ‘easy-going mob-magnet aunt/friend’ that everyone sees her as.
