perniciouswizard:
Lup’s earlier comment about Taako hogging the bathroom made Magnus doubt what Taako was saying.  “Well, you look like you did.  It must be your natural beauty.”  He winked.
Taako was aware of what Lup had said, and that Magnus probably knew that he had, in fact, taken a very long time to get ready.  He appreciated Magnus humoring him.
“Natch,” he replied airily.  “So, where are we going, anyway?”

“Oh.  I guess guys don’t get each others flowers?”  Magnus tried and failed to hide the disappointment in his voice.
As Lup shoved him out the door, he said, “God, Taako, you look gorgeous.”
“I didn't, uh, think of it,” Taako replied, feeling a little bad about the disappointment in Magnus' voice.  “But these, um...”  They looked like Magnus had picked them out of someone's garden.  “...we can keep them at your place, okay?  We get, like, no sunlight in there.”
He took Magnus' arm once they were outside of the apartment, pleased by the comment.  “Oh, do I?  I didn't do anything special,” he lied smoothly.

perniciouswizard:
Magnus hadn’t been on a real date in so long, he had no idea how to dress.  That middle-school nervousness was overwhelming.  They were going to someplace fancy, though, right?  They would throw him out if he came in without a shirt.  So, he should dress like he was a fancy guy.
The problem he had was that suits just were always too tight in the sleeves, and he had never learned that tailoring was a thing real people could get done for them.
He’d had this problem in the past.  He’d been invited to a wedding, but the seams split on the jacket five minutes before he had to go.  He ended up ripping the sleeves off and going without them.  He still had that jacket.
That combined practicality and style.  Magnus hoped Taako appreciated it.
Another thing Magnus was sure was essential for first dates was buying flowers.  If you were both dudes, did you both get flowers?  Magnus hoped so.  He’d never really thought about it, but he would love getting flowers and putting them in a vase and thinking “those flowers remind me of the first time we slept together.”  How romantic!  And then he could think of that whenever he saw the same kind.
He stopped at Merle’s and grabbed some flowers from his garden before heading to Taako’s.  He made them extra fancy by wrapping them in green-and-red glittery wrapping paper he had left over from Christmas.
“Hey, Lup!”  Magnus said, when she opened the door.  “No worries.  I pissed before I left, and you guys live right nearby.”  He might have to pee again, out of nervousness, but he suspected he could hold it.
Taako finally came out of the bathroom.  He paused when he saw Magnus, looking him over.
“Flexed too hard, huh, handsome?” he asked, amused.  It wasn't a bad look for Magnus, not at all, but it wasn't exactly what Taako would call fancy restaurant appropriate.  He tried, though, and it wasn't like Taako was in a completely average looking outfit.
He walked over and was pleased to find out he was nearly as tall as Magnus with these shoes, which mean he barely had to lean up at all to kiss Magnus on the cheek.  “You look great,” he said.   The flowers didn't so much, but he wouldn't say that out loud.
“Gross,” Lup said, shooing them out the door.

“They better not kick off someone cool again,” Magnus said.  “They keep saving Bland Dude, like he has any idea how to cook a pudding without making scrambled eggs.  And at least scrambled eggs have more flavor that his usual dishes.”  Said the man who sometimes licked rocks if they looked like they might taste good.
They wound up curled up together on the sofa, and Taako fell asleep somewhere into the second episode, once his tea was gone.  They didn't get sandwiches that evening.
They had their first real date the following week, and Taako was absolutely not stressing about what to wear.  He definitely did not stress about it the entire day of the date or anything.  That would be silly.
He settled on a gray sleeveless dress with a black blouse on top, complete with a sort of lace up belt at the waist, connected to the blouse.  Under the dress, he had a pair of capri length leggings with ribbons that laced down around his calves.  He had a pair of purple iridescent high heeled boots with tiny silver stars and moons affixed to them.  He completed the look by putting his hair up in an elaborate up do, accented by a gray bow, and a pair of sunglasses that matched the boots and brought the whole look together.  Add to that his flawless make up and a purple and silver purse, and he was ready to take on the evening.
“Damn, I look good,” he said into the mirror.  He was so getting laid tonight.
There was a knock on the door just as he noticed an imperfection in his make up.  “Go get the door, Lup!” he called out the bathroom door.
And so it was Lup who opened the door.  “Hey, Maggie!  Hope you don't have to take a piss while you're here, 'cause Taako's been in there for three hours and doesn't show any sign of emerging.”

Magnus gently set him on the ground again.  “…yeah.  Not looking forward to a repeat of the time I was hanging out with Mookie, tossing the kid in the air, and no one thought they’d tell me he had an entire pizza for dinner the night before.”  He set his hands on Taako’s shoulder.  Maybe Taako didn’t like it, but he was fond of the way he looked form this angle.  He looked at Taako’s eyes through his eyelashes.  Romantic as shit.
“Gross,” Taako replied, grabbing his mug of tea and heading for the living room. “Come on, my dude.  The Great British Cooking Show ain't gonna watch itself.”

“Oh, man, that sounds awful,” Magnus said.  He hoisted Taako up off the counter and lifted him in the air so he could kiss him there.
Taako made a sound of surprise as he was suddenly hefted into the air, but in retrospect, he didn't know why it was surprising.  “Hey, careful there, big guy, Taako's stomach ain't at 100% yet,” he warned.

Magnus wrapped his arms around him and grinned.  He liked the way Taako looked, this close.  Warm.  “You’ll have to carry like a stepstool around, man.”
“I'll just sit on your countertops all the time,” Taako replied, grinning.  “Or make you carry me around.”  He had a feeling Magnus would enjoy that.

Magnus was thankful for the rare foresight that had made him decide to brush his teeth.
He was nervous, but he shoved that aside.
Magnus closed the small gap between them and pressed their lips together.  He gripped the edges of the counter and closed his eyes.
It was a nice kiss.  It wasn't the best kiss Taako had ever had, but it was nice nonetheless. He had never kissed anybody with a beard before, but it wasn't bad. Just a little different.  Yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
They drew apart a moment later and hovered close.  “Mmh, yes, I think I like this angle,” Taako decided.

Magnus took a deep breath and slowly let it out.  “How about I show you how beautiful I think you are?”  He had to keep going forward.
“Mmmh.  Please do,” Taako replied, smiling.  He reached up his hands and draped them over Magnus' shoulders, leaning a little further forward.

Magnus’ face felt suddenly warm.  He knew there were plenty of people who dug the muscles, but he’d been so sure Taako wasn’t one of them, he wasn’t sure what to say to that.  “Um.  Thanks.”  That did raise a question.  “Was it weird when I said you were beautiful?”  How could it be weird?  “I mean, that’s like saying the sky is blue, so I didn’t think about it that much.”  Maybe he was talking to try and move away from his embarrassment.
“Shut up,” Taako laughed, a little embarrassed.  He barreled on forward.  “But nah, me being hot is objective fact, so it couldn't be weird.”  He smiled, putting his hands on the counter and leaning forward slightly.  “Tell me more about how beautiful I am.”

“Well, my biceps are still, like, the size of your head,” Magnus said.  He forgot he was wearing a shirt and went to demonstrate their size.  The seams split.
“Oh my god,” Taako laughed.  It was both hilarious and kind of sexy.  He'd never had a buff boyfriend before.  “Thank fuck, I can tell you how hot that is now without it being weird.”

perniciouswizard:
Magnus had been thinking they’d do something fancier, and make it into a big deal so they could feel like they were *dating* and not just having a lunch out.  But his brain immediately latched onto the word “cuddling.”  He wanted to do that far, far more than he wanted this to be special.
He also didn’t want to wait until they were feeling better.  He just…didn’t want to wait.  They were both ready, so, why should they?  He’d kept his feelings to himself for too long for anyone to tell him he was rushing into this.
“That sounds amazing, honestly,” Magnus said.  He went over to where Taako was sitting on the counter and he touched his arm.
It was kind of funny -- Taako had had a sort of crush on Magnus for a while, but he'd never thought much about it or acted on it because he didn't want to complicate anything, and because his relationships never usually ended up being worth having.  Now that this was actually happening, he realized that Magnus' touch was waking up some butterflies in his stomach.
He put down his mug next to him and grinned when he realized that, sitting on the counter like he was, he was taller than Magnus.
“Would you look at that?  Not so big when I'm up here, huh, big guy?” he teased.

“Yeah.  But is that a date?”  Magnus asked.
His stomach usually settled itself on its own, when it wasn’t cramping at odd times to remind him that he’d made a number of poor food decisions in the past.
“Sure, if we cuddle on the sofa and watch some shit on Netflix while we eat,” Taako replied.

“I wish we didn’t both feel like garbage, so we could just get lunch somewhere now,” Magnus complained.  “Hey, you feel up to it?” he asked, without much hope.  “I did some carpentry work for a sandwich shop nearby, and they were really good.”  They made him wear a shirt, so it was fancy.
“Ugh.  Do they carry out?” Taako asked, making a face into his tea.  He was still in his pajamas, and he still felt like garbage.  At least the tea seemed to help Magnus' stomach.

“What?  Who told you that?”  Magnus asked.  He wanted to fight whoever said that.  He chugged the last of his tea and stood up.  That had burned his throat a little.
Taako snorted.  “Well, fine, but we'll save that for the second date,” he decided.

“You like the fries at McDonald’s, right?”  Magnus asked.  “Nah, I’ll take you someplace nice.  Someplace they won’t let me in if I’m not wearing a shirt.”
“If you're takin' me to Micky D's, then you'd better get me nice and drunk first,” Taako snorted.  He did, in fact, like McDonald's fries, but particularly when he was drunk.  “Look, I could cook for you, but I do that all the time anyway so it's no big anymore.”
