A standard paperback titled “The Tragedy of Francis” the cover is a greenish black with a depiction of a person trapped in a giant spider’s web upon a stage. The cover and spine state it to be the 48,060th volume, no other volumes have been confirmed to exist so far. No information can be found about the author, the publisher or even the ISBN.
The books contains a play with 10 acts (acts 48,061-48,070). Every act is near identical, a character named Francis is forced upon a stage and is tormented by a giant spider off stage. It puppeteers them and forces them to partake in their old vices before drowning them in spiders. Francis appears aware of every act previous with their actions varying but never changing the chain of events.
One interesting detail is that in Act 48,067 the spider refers to someone being in the audience that is responsible for both it and Francis’ actions. This person is never mentioned again and seems to be an abnormality in the text.
Unbeknownst to all the assistant tasked with studying this book was a recovered alcoholic. They have since relapsed. The book has since been returned to its case. It should be noted the book was coincidentally assigned to them on the anniversary of their five years of sobriety. It seems likely the book came here intentionally almost mockingly.
every so often i just think about how good it was that the most foolproof one-size-fits-all solution for dealing with basically any horrifyingly evil supernatural monster of the week in the magnus archives was just. burying them in concrete. like yeah i can believe that a few tons of grey brutalist slop would stop the wolfman or pretty much anything in its tracks to be honest. they use that shit on nuclear waste. do you honestly think you're stronger than a nuke? a fucking nuke?
