[Theory] Why I think Sasuke is not quite aware of Karin's feelings for him - yet -
I believe it’s not an understatement to say that most of the naruto fandom tends to assume Sasuke knows about Karin’s feelings for him (or at least the majority I’ve come across), and I definitely understand why that is. Since Karin’s feelings are so obvious to us as readers, one tends to assume Sasuke can see through her rough exterior, too. I did the same thing myself for years - until I actually stopped to seriously think about it some time during my Naruto-fandom hiatus two years ago.
Really, does Sasuke actually know?
I’m in the camp that thinks odds are he is not aware of her feelings for him. At least not entirely. I believe that even if he does have at least an inkling about Karin’s feelings, he is for the most part clueless about the fact that Karin is in love with him. My reasons for thinking as such are as follows:
The ways in which the manga itself seems to suggest Sasuke’s cluelessness.
Kishi and his writer style. To put it simply: at this point of the story, given that Karin’s feelings for Sasuke have yet to be directly addressed, Sasuke being either completely clueless or at least not entirely aware makes for a more impactful revelation, imo.
I’ll use this post to properly explain my perspective on both ends (because people have asked me why I feel this way before, so having a post ready to be linked seems more useful haha). But I’ll also address two other things that in theory should hinder this train of thought:
Sasuke has been present in two of the times wherein Karin’s feelings for him have been directly alluded to.
Sasuke was Mr. Popular back in Konoha. Shouldn’t he know, by experience alone, when a girl is interested in him?
To do so, I’ll gather some of the things I’ve posted in the FC concerning this subject, but I’ll also write a few extra things to (hopefully - as always -) tie everything together. Granted though, this is just my personal take on the matter! Even those who are also on the same boat as me and believe Sasuke’s probably not aware yet may have different reasons to do so, haha.
So if the subject catches your eye, by all means! :D

On Karin "liking Sasuke's dark side"
@heymayumii already made a great (!!) and more succinct post about the matter here, but this issue was brought to my attention and I promised karinsperfume that I would make a post about it, so here goes more of my lengthy meta ;~;
First of all, I must say this is one misconception that makes me scratch my head whenever I come across it… since I expected it to disappear altogether given what the manga showed back in 2010.
Obviously, I was wrong. But I honestly believe that by now it’s just some people deliberately refusing to acknowledge that the perception they had of Karin — and their attempts to downgrade her feelings for Sasuke — have been canonically proven wrong.
But if you ask me, this issue goes beyond a misinterpretation of Karin’s character. At it’s core, it’s also an oversimplication of Sasuke’s own character and of his storyline.
So, I will (briefly) address this misconception from four different angles:
Sasuke’s character.
Karin “is into Sasuke’s darkness”.
What began this whole misconception in the first place (Chapter 351)
Plus another favorite: Karin “indulging Sasuke’s darkness”.
Sasuke's character.
Nevermind the Kage Summit for now. The truth is the claim: Karin ‘is into Sasuke’s darkness’ has been around since the very year of her introduction; and worse than that, some have even gone as far as to say that’s what she likes about him.
Since this claim has been going around since 2007, it essentially implies that Sasuke was dark since Part II began.
And that’s not true. At all.

Your logic befuddles me
So I read this post about Karin not knowing Sasuke from Darksuke because she doesn’t “know” him enough. I laughed at it - loudly, might I add. Because, seriously? Karin knows Sasuke. I can admit that it’s not as much as I - and my shipper mind - want it to be, since there’s really no actual, concrete proof but, damnit, she knows him all right.
At least, enough to know that he just went batshit, probably consumed by overwhelming darkness. Yeah.
Because if this
Tumblr media
means she doesn’t
Tumblr media
know him enough to distinguish between Darksuke and Sasuke,
Tumblr media
then she wouldn’t be acting like she’s so shocked and confused by him forcefully ordering her around.

countdown to Karin's bd; day 6
My favorite Karin moment from the Kage Summit and from The War
→ a) The Kage Summit
I realized there’s a pattern when it comes to my favorite Karin moments, since I was about to pick either Karin going “Sasuke!!” yet still focusing on tracking Danzou in 464, or showing how spot on and logical her fore-sight is in 457 (I mean, she basically called exactly what ended up happening to them, except it was triggered by Zetsu).
But then I remembered my absolute favorite (yes, even above 482, though 483 does like to give it a fight from time to time but I’ll use day 2 as an excuse to ramble about that one) is this sequence right here:
Tumblr media
I have so much love for those panels, you have no idea. Everything about them calls out to me. The first thing I find worth noticing is how Kishi transmits so much about Karin’s character through details alone; it’s such a short sequence, yet so effective in transmitting one of the main allures of both, Karin’s character and of the way she handles her feelings for Sasuke.
Look at how Kishi has her gripping her cloak in an attempt to get a hold of herself and focus. Karin’s rationality and cautious approach are things of beauty; but she is only human. It’s only natural that seeing the boy she loves in danger is going to put her in turmoil.
But her strength comes in how she is able to steer herself, get her emotions under control and remind herself of what she can do to help. She knows that worrying won’t help Sasuke. That the boy she would risk her life to save won’t benefit from her freaking out. That there are ways in which she can be helpful to him, ways in which she can help save him in whatever measure; and she focuses all her attention on those. She does not waste her resources, doesn’t let her distress blind her from them.
Even in desperate times, Karin does not forget to play to her strengths. And that is - in turn - one of her greatest assets. And one of the things that make her so reliable.
Seriously though, I can’t stress enough how much I admire that.
→ b) The War

countdown to karin's bd; day 7
My favorite Karin moment from the Chasing Itachi arc and from the Killerbee Fight
→ a) Chasing Itachi arc: Karin outsmartens Konoha [365]
There are a few, including moments I’m emotionally attached to out of both, nostalgia and what they meant to me as Karin shaped up to be my favorite female character in PII - notably, this one right here. But if I leave all that aside, this one has to take the cake for me:
Tumblr media
I love how Karin goes from entertaining the thought of making a move on Sasuke and being excited about it, too 100% focused on the mission in a heartbeat. Plus, this was the very first instance where we got to see Karin’s train-of-thought while she used her Kagura Shingan to such a degree, which shed a lot of light not only on the workings of her ability, but also on its sheer sharpness (she could tell there was a dog) and its reach (Konoha wasn’t even anywhere near the village at the time).
She is an extremely (and that adjective falls short, imo - I’d say that feats-wise, to me at least, Karin is arguably the best sensor we’ve seen in the manga to date, and that’s including people like Tobirama - but I digress) proficient and gifted sensor and it’s amazing.
Tumblr media
But - and following what Kakashi just mentioned in the panel above -  what truly makes this moment my favorite is what brought an already note-worthy package of efficacy into fantastic territory:

Tehee... because you ask to write from sappy lines so how about SasuKarin with: “It’s always been you.”, “I missed you so much.”, “I thought you didn’t want me.”, “Why haven’t you kissed me yet?”, “I can’t stay away from you.”. Your choice but I hope you can write all XD. I need some SasuKarin fluff, it's been so long since I read good fics about them.
“I can’t stay away from you.”.
Karin tugsdown her sleeve, her flushed cheeks worlds apart from her obstinate frown. Sasukeeyes her with slight curiosity, figuring it’s only a matter of time beforeKarin gives him a mouthful about something—whatever it is that has set her offthis time.
When shedoesn’t, he finds himself stating the obvious.
“You’reangry.”
“No shit,”Karin huffs. It’s far from explanatory, so Sasuke waits. Keeps his eyes trainedon hers until anger gets the best of her, as it’s prone to do.
“You keepcoming here to get patched-up, but you’re married to one of the best medics inthe whole damn country, for fuck’ssake!” Karin folds both arms across her chest, eyes like lightening—but thereis something tired behind the storm in her gaze when she asks, “Have you eventalked to her lately?”
Sasuke masks his surprise at the unexpected question, lets it slide like raindrops on awindow.
“If I botheryou this much,” he chooses to ask instead, gaze still on hers. “Why do you let me come here, Karin?”
Karinshoulders fall, and suddenly there’s no fight left in her—only exhaustion.
“… Ican’t stay away from you, I guess.”
Her wordsare quiet, but Sasuke feels their echo. It’s in the widening of his eyes, inthe taste of her name on his tongue.
It’s in theconfusion that keeps him silent, mind reeling. But before he can get far, Karinis shaking her head, lips curling up with something akin to resignation.
“… But maybeI should.”

Darling @elleluvsl tagged me to copy-paste the last sentence I wrote, but since that was weeks ago and it’s been even longer since I’ve posted any SK… have the last oneshot I tried to write for them instead lol
Title: It could have been home Word Count: 1.462 Setting: Post-Gaiden. Dedicated to: @elleluvsl and @heka-writes  ❤
“Hey, Sasuke,”
He glances at her from the top of his tea mug, and Karin swallows to moisten her suddenly dry tongue.
“Did you know that bastard Suigetsu thought you and I would be a thing?”
She picks her best disbelieving tone, throws in an eye-roll for good measure. Pretends she isn’t watching his every move, sensing even the slightest shift of his chakra.
There is none, not really. But Sasuke does arch an eyebrow a fraction, and Karin follows his clue to explain.
“Juugo told me the other day. Seems like Suigetsu used to go on and on about it back when we were Taka.”
Sasuke snorts, attention going back to his tea. “Don’t know where he got that idea from.”
His reaction is just about what she expected, but it still stings to hear him say it. To hear Sasuke dismiss the thought of them so easily; to know in no ambiguous terms that it never even crossed his mind. At all.
Still, Karin knows better than to let the pang of hurt show; knows she’s supposed to snort in kind, cross her legs and take a sip of her own tea. So she does just that and throws him an airy, “Right?”
She plays her role and plays it well. Thinks the conversation is done, stores it away to mull over it when he isn’t around to see her ache. So when Sasuke leans back, the last thing Karin expects is what comes out of his mouth.

you sk fans are so delusional. You do realise he tried to kill Karin right?! And she actually liked it. He treats her like shit! How disgusting! Sasusaku is clearly better than your ship! Sakura will appreciate the smallest guesture and will be happy but Karin will be all over him
And you do realise he apologized for it. Here it is, in case you missed it. Here is proof that he meant it and as for Karin’s “It felt good”, read this. She hasn’t forgiven him for it yet. Unless you have a good understanding of Japanese and can counter-argue this with actual evidence, don’t bother telling me or anyone else otherwise.
But let’s look at the apology through a more universal context. When someone apologizes, it’s when they regret something they did and acknowledge that they were wrong. To people saying that the apology wasn’t “positive”. An apology is an attempt to compensate for wrong-doing because it fixes things – and this can only be positive. Unless you were lied to as a child, I have no idea why you would state otherwise. The only reason you want to believe its “negative” is because it negates the prospects of your ship.
I’ve also heard the argument that the only reason he apologized was because Karin came in “screaming bloody murder”. Are you actually serious? So apparently, he’s worried about what one woman might do to him, so he fakes an apology to get her off his back. Mind you, she has no physical advantage over him. He also knows her power better than anyone. She would have sensed if she was being lied to. But when he suddenly comes before the multiple shinobi that make up Konoha 11, he doesn’t give a fuck “because he’s stronger”. What kind of logic is that?  The only leaves us with the conclusion that the only reason he apologized was because he knew he was in the wrong and he cared enough about her and what she thought of him. Please just accept this.
The only time he treated her this way was during the Kage Summit Arc. The author went to certain lengths to establish she was “a sacrifice” This is when you give up something you value in the pursuit of something you regard as more important. The most important thing to Sasuke was always his revenge. Only this arc twisted it into something very daunting and serious. Karin isn’t the only one hurt during this Arc, it was also everyone in Team 7 – and that includes Sakura.
Don’t give me the argument that Karin was a team-mate and Sakura was the enemy. He also attacked Naruto, the only “outsider” who acknowledged Sasuke had justification for what he was doing. Is this an enemy? And there was Sakura. How was he even supposed to know she was trying to kill him? She lied through her teeth to get close to him and pretended she was going to kill Karin. It was after his first murder attempt, that Kakashi revealed that she was there to kill him. Obviously, Sakura was upset at the sight of what he had become and this is something he would have seen no doubt in between his laughing spree before his second murder attempt. Is this an enemy? I believe not. The only thing he saw were the people who he needed to kill and the people who got in his way. You could also argue that it was because Team 7 were from Konoha and his goal was to eradicate Konoha, not Karin. To that I would say that he also killed many fodder Samurai that day. They had nothing to do with from Konoha. But they got in his way. The purpose of this arc was to showcase his hatred/darkness and his sudden ability to kill without remorse, something he previously refused to do. We later learn that this was the ‘Curse of Hatred’.
I’m not going to waste time comparing the murder attempts (many people have already done this). They were all very different in nature. The only thing we need to agree on is that was the time Sasuke was at rock-bottom and his actions towards all the people who cared for him were equally terrible.
And here’s some advice. Get your head out of SS fan-fic and learn to embrace your ship for what it has become. By all means, hold on to the good, but face the worst that has happened. If you cannot accept everything – you certainly don’t have the right to go around bashing other ships and shippers, how dare you. And FYI, bashing Karin isn’t doing anything positive for the development of your ship, nor is it refuting any from ours. It just makes you look very immature and intolerant. No one is going to take you seriously.
“Sakura will appreciate the smallest gesture”. Of course she will. What has ‘Sasuke-kun’ ever given her apart from these small gestures? She will take these small gestures and that is all she can take.  When he loses his shit and becomes someone she doesn’t know all she can do is stand there and watch in terror and tears. She can’t handle him. Naruto is the one who is able to handle Sasuke for who he is and Karin is the only female who calls on his shit. In the entirety of the manga, there are two moments where she has somewhat successfully stood up to him. One is during the Forest of Death match and the other time was during the Kage Summit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recognize the pattern in both these times. Yea… she’s defending Naruto. Give me moments she actually stood up for what she wanted and he actually listened. What about her needs and herself? There is nothing more infuriating, depressing, adverse and boring than watching a girl wait and cry over one fucking guy all her life – especially for one who has shown her meagre interest and ESPECIALLY a strong and assertive woman like Sakura. I’m not saying this as an anti, I’m saying this as a woman and as a feminist. Are you going to bash me for being one?
As for the “angst”. I’m sorry. I hate angst. It’s not happiness and it’s not love. It’s not something anyone wishes for. This is why I don’t read shoujo. So let me ship what I want. Every ship has its own messes and the fact that you can’t accept that SK is recovering from this is your problem. Also, please keep your selective reading tendencies to yourself. That shit isn’t welcome here.

Ugh Karin’s dream of helping Sasuke reform the village system with taka is making me think about the amazing ending we could have had and the fics with it; Taka traveling together and gathering intel from village to village, Sasuke visiting Konoha regularly to exchange information with Narusus Uzuchrist and keep an eye on corruption, Suigetsu collecting his swords, Juugo learning how to control his urges on his own, Karin learning about her own heritage, and of course Sasuke and Karin connecting again and slowly making their bond romantic.
But we got this Last shit instead.

The main reason why i prefer sasukarin over sasusaku is because Karin has a story how she fell in love with him instead of Sakura who just fell in love with him because she thought he was hot and cool when she was 5-9. Also that Karin talks back to Sasuke and isn’t a weak puppy around him. I like Sakura but whenever she is around Sasuke I find her character to be completely horrible.

SasuKain
when I started shipping it if I did: they are in my top otp list… I started to ship them I think from the first time when they met. I’m instantly attached to Karin, because she is a woman who know what she want, who comfortable with her sexuality and have an amazing ability. And I tought that Sasuke need a proper lady in his life, even in a non-romantic way.
my thoughts: I honestly tought that they will end up together. I mean they used each in every way at first, but it seemed that even Sasuke had started to care about her. I think they are perfectly fit together. Karin loves him, not just hat idolized ghost from the past. She was with her when Sasuke got crazy, she saw the ugly side of him. But Karin never ever let him to make stupid things without tell him her opinion. NOT ONCE. And Sasuke care about her, interested in her opinion, and trust her in every way. SO WASTED….
What makes me happy about them: even after that terrible marriage with Sakura, Sasuke and Karin was stuck together. They are traveled together, fight together and being close to each other. And Karin shown to everyone that she loves him more than anything, and don’t except anything from him in return. She just want him to be happy..
What makes me sad about them: the same thing that makes me happy. I mean I’m a bittersweet lady ;____;
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I wouldn’t mind if Sasuke ended up with Naruto. And same goes for Karin with Suigetsu.
My happily ever after for them: Sasuke realize nothing left for him in Konoha (except Naruto), he would propose Karin to join him in a journey. Karin would cry and he finally smile and call her “stupid”…
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Sasuke is the big spoon and Karin is the little spoon
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: cooking together
their song:  Zara Larsson, MNEK - Never Forget You

dude, we “demonize” sakura for “loving” sasuke because:
- she only cares about herself and not about what sasuke wants.
-she’s willing and ready to drop all of her friends and family for ONE GUY that DOESN’T GIVE A REAL DAMN ABOUT HER.
- she USES her family and friends to get what she wants. (Naruto, ino, Karin, ect.)
- she wants sasuke to drop everything for her and her own selfish needs. (ss tards want to trash on sasuke’s dreams and only give a fuck about sakura’s dumb needs.)
- Kishi confirmed that sakura is ADDICTED to sasuke like drugs, for NO REASON.
- kishi also confirmed that sakura IS SELFISH and DOES NOT/WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND SASUKE.
- she doesn’t love the REAL SASUKE, she still wants sasuke to drop everything he’s doing and come visit her selfish ass. (as confirmed in the new sasuke novel.)
