Honestly, if you were to tell me a year ago that Hunter's and Willow's arcs would have ended with them holding pinkies with each other I would have called you crazy bc that shit makes no sense for either of them.

Claiming characters are "sibling coded" or two unrelated grown adults are "parent-child coded" is just an excuse for people who don't ship something but are too childish to admit they just don't ship it to try to paint everyone who does ship it as morally wrong, and actively hating the ship as being the morally correct stance.

Coffee on a cold day.
Hunter is thinking about whether getting Willow and Amity one as well.
(He will, obviously)

The way the Owl House Fanbase reacts towards Lunter & Huntlow.
Tumblr media
A ship should complement the story, but it shouldn't be the main focus or derive the narrative, especially for a character concluding their development arc. (Huntlow)
It has been a while since I made an Owl House post. Anyway, I enjoy this meme.

Tbh, I should be making Huntlow ship playlists. Why does every playlist contain songs that aren’t even in-character for them yet call them Huntlow-coded???

it's crazy how hunter has meaningful interactions and actual development with luz, gus and amity (mainly luz and gus) but he ends up with the person he talked to like twice in the entire series.
i'm not saying he should have been paired with either of the other three. but come on, if you really wanted huntlow to work out, all you had to do was replace some of hunter's interactions with luz or gus with willow. two characters blushing around each other isn't enough reason to ship them.

You asked me to write about Lunter's parallels with Evelyn.
Let's start with just similar moments that could be noticed.
1. (photo 1,2)A parallel with Luz and Hunter running away from Belos, holding hands, and in the same series a picture with the same Caleb and Evelyn running away from Philip
2. According to 3 and 4 pictures, everything is basically clear. It's funny that this picture is literally on their background
3. 5, 6, 7 - Evelyn introduces Caleb to his palisman, luring him and Luz, who literally also introduced Hunter to the Flop. In both cases, apparently, this was the first step for Caleb/Hunter to throw Philip/Belos
4. 7-8 - Evelyn/Luz attack Philip/Belos with Light magic after he attacked Caleb/Hunter
5. Interestingly, Evelyn wears a raincoat in all the pictures, just like Luz in the episode where she and Hunter met, although she had practically not used it before
6. In a sense, both Luz and Evelyn are people (witches) who came from another world and discovered wild magic for Hunter/Caleb, helped them look at the world with different eyes, changed their worldview and even "took" them from Philip/Belos. Literally throughout the HM, Luz helps Hunter escape from Belos, opening his eyes to his personality, while on the walls in the same episode the story of Evelyn, who also runs away from Philip along with Caleb, is told.

hot take but they had to completely change hunter’s entire character in order for huntlow to work (and even then they still had no chemistry)

okay antihuntlowrinas it's time to let go of the whole "willow is a stand-in for hunter's authoritative uncle" thing
the entire reason why hunter would ever care about helping the team in the first place disproves this: in ASIAS, hunter is exposed to the concept of teamwork and collaboration. for once in his life, he doesn't have to take everyone else out (and watch out for his own back) to win, instead he wins by relying on the other members and making team plays.
and it's not like hunter is drawn to willow at first because she's a leader: he wants to take her to the emperor's coven because she's a powerful witch. like i said, the whole teamwork thing comes as a surprise -- and it's what almost leads hunter to leave the team before they even play together.
so when the scene with darius and the flyer derby team happens and hunter calls willow "captain", he doesn't do it because he sees her as an authority figure. like, it's very explicit in the scene who the real authority is: darius. when hunter calls willow captain is because he's appealing to their newfound connection as members of a team who lean on each other and treat everyone as equals. when hunter calls willow captain, is because he wants her to trust his decision because she also trusted him as a member of her team. in fact, it's willow who "complies" to hunter's "orders"; but, you know, it's about the fact that hunter's view of leadership has been changed by willow's positive attitudes as the leader of their group. tl;dr, the point is that willow is not authoritative!
now, does this makes h/ntlow good? well, no. because hunter falls for her for some arbitrary reason that just doesn't tie in with his arc, and after this their relationship is nonexistent, platonic or otherwise. willow flirts once with hunter in TTT for no reason at all, and then she falls for him after her realization that she can be vulnerable around her friends... like, what? see, h/ntlow is bad because of all of these things and for being rushed and the most boring, transparent choice ever and the definition of a crackship. but let's not make things up that are NOT there. we already have a lot to chew on.

may i ask why lunter shippers often criticize and/or dislike lumity so much ─ as in, the pairing itself, not the fans? it's extremely frustrating because i'm a multishipper (lumity main, but i very much love lunter too) and i don't understand why the shipping war over which one "should be true canon" isn't just one-sided from biphobes/antis/etc., because i was always under the impression that was the case. i've only ever experienced the fandom mainstream and i'm still new to spaces where shipping luz with boys, especially hunter, is acceptable. i'm curious as to why each side has negative shit to say about the other as if their opinion is absolute. hell, i'm still confused by how much people passionately hate huntlow this bad for being boring and unoriginal at worst; if it's problematic for the age gap then surely lunter is too (rhetorical)? anyway, i hope this ask comes across okay and respectful enough. i read your blog's description and pinned post so i hope i can find some answers through you.
~ bi-ship
Thank you for being so respectful!
There’s many reasons as to why Lunter fans dislike Lumity as a ship. It’s mainly due to a difference in shipping taste or out of spite since a handful of Lumity shippers are toxic (I like Lumity, it’s cute, but I fall under the difference in shipping taste category).
Lumity and Lunter are two completely different ships. One falls under the cutesy, wholesome, loving couple (Lumity) trope and the other falls under the angsty, heartbreak, storyline, and lore-based (Lunter) ship trope.
Many Lunter fans are mainly in the fandom and watch the show for the lore and Wittebane brothers, which is why they ship Lunter (for the Evelyn/Caleb parallels). If Lunter was canon, TOH would be a completely different story and have the Wittebane family as a major key to the story. But with Lumity, the story doesn’t go much into the brothers and just has a cute loving couple.
That’s where most of the criticism comes from. Lumity isn’t a ship that’s there for the lore, it’s just there for sapphic representation and normality. Also, since it was the first Disney sapphic couple involving a protagonist, it would be difficult to add it into lore-based angst since it would probably be passed as “too toxic” or whatever. That’s why they’re so lovey-dovey. Keep in mind this is just a thought. Lumity is not toxic at all, they’re just a normal couple.
With Huntlow, Lunter fans mostly hate it and criticize it for being boring and unoriginal like you said. It was rushed a lot and could have been dropped since it didn’t bring representation or relevance (Willow was never confirmed as Evelyn and they were never in-show confirmed or coded as bi/pan. I headcanon them as such but all they ever had were popular color palettes). It also depends a lot on perspective. It’s toxic to some and not toxic to others. I have a deep hate for it just for the unoriginality (bad boy turns into malewife for the shy girl that turns into a girlboss) and irrelevance but I don’t actually view it as TOXIC toxic since in my viewpoint, it’s just two normal people pushed too hard into a malewife x girlboss ship. I don’t like how Willow does sometimes resemble Belos but she’s far FAR better and healthier than Belos.
To sum this up: Lunter fans often dislike/criticize Lumity and Huntlow for being lovey-dovey, unoriginal, and not relevant to the plot. It all boils down to a difference in shipping interest. None of the ships are actually toxic (it’s mostly just people looking far too deep into them) but some people can view it as such and that’s fine as long as no one gets harassed. We all have different views.

happy (late) anniversary to The S3 episode ever. anyways this was so fucked up wasn't it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
k i was going to go on a huge tag rant but for once i'll do that on the post itself i guess
this is why i mean when i say a lunter endgame would make the show so much better because GOD the implications of hunter's words, the subtext of it all... "it would've been someone else" and he's right! there's been so many other people! belos HAS been doing this to all the grimwalkers and their evelyns through the years. for as long as he's created the grimwalkers in caleb's likeness, they have eventually turned against him and perished by belos' hand. and then you can read the inevitability of this cycle as destiny. this is how it always happen.
and this is how it actually happens in TTT too: hunter turns on belos, and he perishes by his hand. actually it's so poetic that belos does it by corrupting his body to the point of death. and he only stops because of flapjack (who luz happened to introduce to hunter in the first place!!!!!). but this is also because of luz: she refuses to fight possessed hunter because she's unwilling to hurt him, unlike the rest of the group. maybe, if luz had attacked him right then and there, it would've ended there. it's flapjack, the symbol of caleb and evelyn's love, who ends up breaking the cycle: this time, hunter gets to live.
this is why it makes me insane that hunter says this to luz... right now, all of their conjoint actions have led them to changing the fate of all the grimwalkers. for the first time in forever, caleb and evelyn are able to stand together against belos, and it's fitting then that hunter points that out. like, his words fit perfectly into the concept of a lunter endgame, of a final reincarnation of the love between caleb and evelyn who kicked off the plot in the first place.
and the fact that this happens later makes it 200% more fucked up btw
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's hunter's conviction and the reminder of flapjack's sacrifice that change luz's determination to stay in the human realm. but also, like, hunter bringing up the symbol of caleb and evelyn's love as a plea to convince luz to fight by his side....... i can't make this shit up! it's right there in the show!
