Explaining ship names: Thoschei edition

Thoschei is the ship name for the Doctor x the Master. This is because the Doctor's name at the academy (where the two met and grew up together) was "Theta", and the Master's academy name was "Koschei", so Theta x Koschei becomes Thoschei.

For specific regenerations of each, there may also be specific names. Usually, it's the number regeneration that the Doctor is on, combined with the name of the actor playing the master.

For example, the third doctor (Pertwee) x Delgado's Master is "threegado"

The tenth (tennant) doctor and the Saxon Master (Simm's Master) is "tensimm"

For 12 (Capaldi) and Missy (Michelle Gomez), it's "Twissy" (twelve combined with Missy)

13 (Whittaker) x Missy is "thrissy" (being thirteen combined with Missy)

For 13 and Dhawan's Master, it's - oh boy. Many people call them "spydoc", as in dhawan master (the spy master) x the doctor, but that is a more general ship for Dhawan's Master and the Doctor of any regeneration. For 13 x dhawan master specifically, you could use Thirwan or Thirschwan. There's probably more. No one can agree on what to use for this one lol

FUN FACT

The Doctor's real name, while generally a mystery, does have a canon answer. The Doctor's real name is "δ³Σx²" (delta cubed sigma x squared). This equation is the Doctor's canon real name and has appeared in multiple episodes and spin off media such as "The Five Doctors" and "The Trial of Doctor Who"

So mystery solved, right? Just finish the equation and we know the Doctor's real name. Well...it's more complicated than that. The equation is incomplete. Because we don't know the value of "x" in the equation, The Doctor's proper name is still a mystery

This Doctor Who meta was written way back in 2017. I’m publishing it on tumblr for Moffat Appreciation Day 2022, but it covers the entire time period between 2005 and 2016.

The companion as a Doctor figure has been a theme which Doctor Who has been fascinated with at least since Rose Tyler first appeared on our screens in 2005. One by one, every companion since then, from Rose Tyler to Clara Oswald, has come step into the role in some way or other, allowed to move in and out of the spaces on the show the Doctor inhabits.
