This is a photoshopped mock up of what the piece will hopefully look like.

After some experimentation, these prototype works have given some great insight into how the flowers and/or cellophane will be attached.
It proved very difficult to glue the flowers on individual, and hence double sided tape is used to cover the Pyramid without waiting for each flower to dry in place. Hot glue also wilts the flowers to the point of them falling apart.
They also fit very well into the chosen location, and likewise the final work itself will hopefully fit in as well.

After revisiting the site, it turns out that tree is a jacaranda tree. It’s now in full bloom with hundreds, if not thousands of purple blossoms.
They just collect on the floor underneath the tree, and as such i think it will be easy to get these flowers on mass.

After a trip to the workshop, I now have some prototypes of the pyramids I would like to make.

Here are some ideas I have been playing around with for my project. Although I’m not sure if I’ll get all the flowers made on time, this simple geometric shapes may be the perfect way to present these flowers.

I have experimented with both paper and cellophane, and have found that, although time consuming, the form of these flowers can be recreated quite efficiently.
I may want to sketch out some more designs including these faux flowers.

After looking around, it may be very difficult to find enough real flowers to create a large scale work. Although conceptual ideas could be generated, their is no practical source of flowers to create such a work. It may be harmful to the ecosystem to pick a large of amount of flowers myself, and fresh flowers are quite expensive. I could use fallen flowers but these aren’t quite as delicate and pristine as the flowers I would like to use.

Asumo Makoto is another flower based artist, who creates these immense botanical sculptures out of picked and living flowers.
His work, although slightly impractical in scale for this project, has given me an intense desire to work with flowers, or something flower-like.

This artist, Ignacio Canales Aracil, is a Spanish sculpture who has somewhat inspired me in my direction for this project. He works with flowers and transforms them into delicate, pressed flower sculptures without the use of any fixitive.
It may be very interesting to collect flower petals, or make some from paper or cellophane, to work with.

I have chosen this spot just outside of the Z12 art studios, as it is and often overlooked space with not much going on.
The tree is quite beautiful, especially in terms of the shadows it produces, and could be incorporated into a spatial piece.
This is only an initial brainstorm, but something repetitive and cluster like could “fill the space” and transform it.
