“oh, man, you’ve never heard of the traveler?” jester rummages through her bag, pushing aside her paint set, chalk, sketchbook—briefly she lets her hand linger on the wand of smiles—before finally unearthing brochures bearing the hooded visage of the traveler. the paper is finely woven, a thin, folded sheet carefully decorated with watercolor leaves and flowers. the traveler stands in the distance, at the end of a winding path. above his head are the few colorful gems that adorn her holy symbol. on the front page, in large letters, reads: TRAVELER BE WITH YOU! jester bares her pointed teeth in a joyful grin. “take this! i made it for people who don’t know him, like you!”
“the traveler? i can’t say i heard of such a god.” shadowheart utters, examining the pin holding the blue tiefling’s green cloak in place. an emblem with three connecting swirls drawn to a single stem. this deity she speaks of—and its iconography—sparks no memories in the history of lady shar nor her teachings. perhaps he is neither a friend or foe of shar and selûne. therefore, irrelevant. “what does he have to do with anything?” … @duplicitied

there’s a burst of pink, sparkling energy that enshrouds jester and caleb. she grabs his hand just as this energy lifts them off their feet and shunts them forward in space. when their vision clears, they land hard, feet striking the pavement with force but not loudly. jester’s gaze catches caleb’s, and she gives an emphatic nod in acknowledgement to his furtive gesture. there’s dried paint on her fingers and the thrill of mischief is thrumming in her veins. she is joyful. in her own way, she is holy. these small acts of chaos are divine.
thick leather boots strike the cobblestone below, footfalls growing louder as they approach, then quieter as they pass and recede. carefully she watches the rise and fall of caleb’s chest, searching for the quick breath of alarm rather than exertion. when his breathing steadies, jester relaxes. she, too, leans back against the bricks, her clasping her hands behind herself. after a restless minute, she approaches caleb in a few short steps. “me? i’m not hurt at all, really. i’ve done things like this, like, a lot of times.” worry knitting her brow, jester reaches out to the hand curled around his ribs as an unspoken offer. “what’s wrong, are you hurting?”

her dimension door drops them in the near darkness of an alleyway , the setting sun disappearing behind the building they're next to. he takes a second or two or three ( it's seven ) to lean against one of the brick walls and catch his breath. an incredibly narrow escape managed by the only person who could get away with it. he presses his index finger to his mouth — quiet — and glances to the opening of the alley. waits like that for a perfect minute until he's sure that no hurried footsteps are coming in their direction. he nods at her , still not daring to speak.
caleb keeps his back pressed against the bricks and waits another full minute to take stock of @duplicitied's condition , then his own , having to squint in the dim light. he's unscathed , but one arm is curled over his ribs , still sore from yesterday's events. " we should go find the others. are you hurt ? "

“mama!” jubilant as ever, jester crashes into her mother’s outstretched arms. she breathes in the familiar scents of home—floral perfume, sea salt, the spiced, waxy smell of lipstick—and closes her eyes. for an instant she’s eight years old again, small and sheltered in her mother’s embrace. when she pulls away, jester feels the roughened skin of her own hands against the soft fabric of her mother’s dress and remembers the weight of a weapon in her hand. “oh, i’ve seen so much! there’s so much to tell you. where should i start, what do you want to know?”
" oh, @miscelliany, my little sapphire, come here. " she rushes forward, pulling jester into her arms and hugging her as tight as she comfortably could. every time jester left the chateau she worried until she saw her in person, or received a message from her, this time it had been slightly longer than comfortable. " your adventures must've been exciting. you must tell me all about them. "

light and color and sound surrounds her. eager, violet eyes take in every detail of fey dress and form: their sparkling jewelry, their fine cloth, the intricate embroidery on the hem of dresses and edge of coats, their mesmirizing, patterned insect wings, their elegant, multicolored feathers. jester lavorre thinks of her sketchbook. if she had it with her now, she would sketch the likeness of every attendee in its pages, a loving memento of this magical night.
the party is beautiful. the fey realm is beautiful. since she met artagan she’s dreamed of it—imagined towering trees and delicate pink petals, grand adventures fraught with danger and whimsy not unlike the archfey himself— after going on adventures of her own, he’d taken her there.
a low hum of voices engaged in polite, courtly conversation fills the room. above it, a voice pulls jester from her stupor.
you know…i don’t know about you, but i kind of want to fuck shit up.
it takes all of jester’s decorum not to squeal with excitement. a toothy grin spreads across her face. “ja?” her voice is melodic, anticipatory. “you know, i’m like, really good at fucking some shit up.” there’s a handbag at her side, embellished with pink flowers and tiny bees. it pops open to reveal a small set of paints—blues, yellows, greens, and reds smudged across its velvet interior. “we could…touch up some the artwork, or—” the handbag snaps shut. “if you know any, like, assholes worth messing with, i can try something pretty magical.”
“ you know … ” chirp whispers to the nearest attendee. a glimmer in her eye as she speaks with a quirked brow. “ i don’t know about you but i kind of want to fuck some shit up. ” / open.

a gentle knock raps against the door to marion lavorre’s chamber. after a moment’s hesitation, the door opens slightly to reveal the visage of a particular blue teifling. she rushes forward to join marion on the bed, one arm positioned carefully behind her back to keep her mother’s present out of view. ❝ i got something for you, mama! are you ready to see it? ❞ delight apparent in her smile and in her tone, she is unable to contain her excitement, and hardly waits for a reply before, with considerable bravado, she presents a folded coat. ❝ ta-da! do you like it? ❞ the coat is long, lined with fur, and black in color. it is elegantly embroidered with maroon and light blue flowers that match the design of jester’s own coat. when buttoned, an embroidered pair of sapphire blue arms link hands at its front as though they are wrapping themselves around marion in a hug. ❝ it’s a winter coat! i thought you could use it if you ever want to go outside in the snow. ❞ she carefully lays the coat out in front of her, admiring its decoration. ❝ we could make a whole day of it, you know? we could make snowmen, and snow angels, and drink hot chocolate! ❞
