Spell Ingredients Index: Bay Laurel
Tumblr media
Scientific Classification: Laurus Nobilis
Folk Names: Bay, Sweet Bay, Bay Laurel, Noble Laurel, Roman Laurel
Bay leaves are very popular in American cooking cuisine, as they have a very delicious flavor to them. It is common to add 1 to 2 bay leaves to a pot of soup.
Not only is bay a popular “spice”, but it also has a lot of magickal uses as well. Plus, it’s easy to obtain at your local Walmart!
Use in spells for:
Protection
Psychic strength
Healing
Purification
Strength
Prosperity
Use in these spell types:
Burning spells (burning a bay leaf will have a mildly explosive outcome, which is cool, but also can be a little risky. It’s a bit like holding a small sparkler)
Potions
Kitchen witchcraft spells
In sachets
In poppets (used here to mean “an effigy of the person who is the target of your spell” and does not have any direct cultural connotation)
Some other uses:
Bay leaves were used by priestesses of Apollo to produce a prophetic state. They did this by either chewing on the leaves, or burning them and inhaling the fumes.
Bay leaves are also used as decoration during Yule.
Place beneath your pillow for prophetic dreams.
Burn bay leaf and sandlewood (red sandlewood is more accessible than white, and adds an extra “umph” because of the color) to remove curses and evil spells.
Hang sprigs of bay around the home to prevent the mischeif of poltergeists.
Write wishes on the leaf and then burn to make them come true.
Medicinal Uses:
Along with regular medication as provided by a licensed medical physician, Bay Laurel ground up and taken twice daily may help to lower pre-meal blood sugar for diabetics.
Helps with excessive flatulence.
Making a salve to apply directly to the skin can help with dandruff, pain from rheumatism, and may also help to heal boils.
Pregnant women should avoid taking Bay Laurel medicinally.

Myrrh was used in ancient Egypt a lot as well. It was burned at noon to honour Ra, god of the sun, and was also burned in the temple of Isis.
Use in spells for:
Protection

Healing
Spirituality
Myrrh is essentially the feminine energy to Frankincense, which is masculine. Burning both incites the protection of both God and Goddess, moon and sun.
Use in these spell types:
Sachets

As an incense
Oils and perfumes
Other Magickal Uses:
The incense of Myrrh can be used to consecrate, purify, and bless objects used in magick.

To Break a Spell You’ve Cast
Purpose: To undo a spell
Best time to perform: After midnight any night
Best moon phase to use: Waning
Supplies:
Herbs to use: angelica
Oils to use : anoint candles with rosemary oil
Candle colors: use white candles, as many as you like.
one bead from a necklace you own (preferably a pearl–faux or real)
a small patch of black cloth
some string for tying
Incantation:
I cast a spell asking <insert type of spell here>, I now ask the favor of having the spell removed. I understand to take back a spell means giving up something of my own to show my spirit is true and my intentions are good. I give this pearl/bead from a necklace I own. I transfer the spell into the <pearl or bead> and render the spell dormant. No harm may come from the cancellation of this spell. No further power shall it have. This is my will - so mote it be.
-Place the pearl/bead in the black cloth.
-Add your angelica herbs.
-Tie the cloth up tightly with the string, wrapping the pearl/bead in the cloth.
-Dribble a bit of wax from the candles on the knot you tie.
-Then throw the small package away, far from your home.
-Close the circle and give thanks.
