I love how you can just see Ed's face fall after he finishes reading Stede's lovely letter. He's got so many emotions going through his head and the acting is so fuckin' good that we feel all of them.

As he finishes reading it, he's smiling and delighted by how sweet and romantic it is...

And then his face just falls. For a second before he starts yelling, he just looks absolutely heartbroken.

It's such incredible acting for a very small but very powrful moment. Ed has found this tangible proof that Stede loves him, is devoted to him, is never going to leave him again, and it's beautiful. It's proof that Ed is treasured and adored and so, so deeply loved. It's lovely.

And then reality comes back in. Ed doesn't know where Stede is; he can only reasonably assume that Stede is dead or captured or laying injured somewhere. There's no way Ed isn't assuming that's at least partially his fault - if he was with Stede, then at least they would be together, maybe he would've been able to keep him safe.

Ed's shout that Stede wrote him a lovely letter is wonderful - he's devastated, he's angry that Stede might have been taken from him before Ed was even able to fully realize that Stede was all in. Their love can't disappear in an instant, this situation isn't fucking fair!
