In a world that wants to shove advertisements in our face every second of every day, do you realize how significant it is that AO3 doesn’t host ANY ads? They make NO revenue from the traffic they receive or from users in any way.

You might not even realize how exhausting it is to be bombarded with advertising all the time. Just look at FFN. You can’t read anything on the mobile version of the site without having to scroll past huge adds in the middle of a fic or between reviews. You can’t watch a YouTube video without encountering ads at the beginning of the video, the middle of the video, and/or the end of the video. With influencer culture, most YouTube videos are advertisements.

But AO3 is an ad-free space created by fans for fans. They ask for donations to keep running and to pay for lawyers (to protect our right to produce fannish works), what, twice a year? And no one profits off that money. Because AO3 is part of a non-profit organization….

Anway, I’m still baffled by the people out there who think AO3 is an evil organization out to scam people.

The purity wank stuff is another matter altogether.

Update

10/2/2020 

Hello All

I hope all are well, I’ve been a bit stressed. The previous update post has become a disaster, so I am making a new one. 

This year is trying to be as frustratingly difficult as possible. 

In the last month or so: 

car battery died

Winston’s cancer scare, thankfully not cancer but he is on medication for at least the next year which has thrown the already tight budget into chaos. 

account went in the negative 4 times cause of things processing at the wrong time

ma’s furnace went out

back end of car decided it hates me and the control bar (originally thought shock or spring but alas was not) fell off car while I was driving down the road

my meds got messed up twice by the doctor prescribing them as she ‘forgot’ to send them to the pharmacy

had one cat die, another vanished (though he came home!)

discovered two things I need to fix on the car to make sure it is safe in the winter

I feel like I am missing some stuff, but alas, I don’t have the mental energy to look through the last post and its many updates to figure out what. 

As of today I am -$56 cause my loan payment came out, if I can get $7 in the account, then I can cover the rest Monday when I get my pay for errands and what not, though that will leave me with 11 dollars for the following two weeks.  

Good news: redid my Patreon and have several posts queued up over the month of October and November, one a week. I am going to try and get up to two a week. They are all accessible on the $1 per month tier. I’ll be doing a more thorough post on that shortly.

Hi Peeps I hope you are having a great October thus far, despite the pandemic and anything else that may be going wrong. Mine has been long, it has been 10 days since my last update, and things have been stressful.

So stressful, due to a variety of reasons.

Good news first: after nearly a year trying to get an appointment for my left foot, I finally have one! Sure it’s a month away but maybe they will figure out why it rolls and sprains so bloody easily.

Bad news: I’m at -$294 in my checking account, and $0 in my paypal. Life has been doing all that fun stuff: bills going through, meds needed, pain, problems to deal with. If I don’t get this covered by Wednesday 6 am EST there will be $80 in fees.

In two days Winston’s meds payment of $60 comes out, and three days after that his actual payment of $150 comes out.  Yay, I think. Just 6 (as far as I saw when I checked the payment plan at the end of September) payments left on Winston as long as none are late.  I sadly haven’t had any commissioners this month, and the one that said they might get with me last month never got in touch.

That’s $294 by early morning tomorrow, and $506 by Saturday.

While AO3 has a way to click to see notes at the end, this tutorial is how you can not only have your viewers click to view certain notes, but also click back to where they had been reading before. We don’t even need to use a workskin for this, but just an implementation of simple anchor links. So whether you have a lot of references in your work or just want to let your inner Pratchett* loose, this is how you do it.

OK So with the shit with the USPS going on:

1. Check your Voter registration to make sure everything is up to date.  If you can, request a Mail-In Ballot.  I live in CO, where all elections are Mail-In only now, so I get one anyway.

2. Fill out your ballot per the instructions on your Ballot.  Some Notes:

Read Instructions thoroughly, and fill out your Ballot in private.

Do NOT post pictures of your Ballot as this may invalidate it.  DO Post pictures of your “I Voted” sticker.

Make sure to vote for all the offices up for election- as important as the presidential election is, your mayor, governer, local school board and sherrif have a MUCH bigger impact on your immediate safety and quality of life.  Google your candidates, look up the Leauge of Women Voter’s Guides for a reliably Impartial rundown of your local candidates. 

Remember also that it is better to have someone in office that is only moderately incompotent, than it is to have someone that actively wants you dead.  It is the first step to having someone worthwhile next time.

If you wanted a third party option, your local elections are the best place to do this- my own city council has several Green Party members and it got me city-sponsored single-stream recycling! Its also moving the state legislature significantly farther left.

3. INSTEAD OF MAILING IT- LOOK UP WHERE YOUR BALLOT DROP-OFF LOCATIONS ARE. 

They’re boxes you drive or walk or bus or bike or whatever up to and drop your ballot in, and the elections officials will have it that evening. Pros of Ballot Drop-Off:

Can be turned in the same day you reccive your ballot, if you want to get this over with ASAP

Open 24/7, so you can drop it off whenever

Absolutely guaranteed to get your vote counted, regardless of what Donald does with the Post Office.

No waiting in line

No exposing yourself to the coronavirus

Most cities will have several ballot Drop-Off locations, at places like the grocery store, the county courthouse, city hall, at high schools etc.  Google your town or county name and “Ballot Drop Off Locations” and it’ll give you directions even.

Absolutely Save the USPS, but this is the BEST way to make sure your vote gets counted this

So everyone saves money for Laf’s birthday to go to Disney World. so while everyone is there this happens:

Laf is super freaking happy to meet Cinderella and Belle and he has princess Mouse ears.

Herc meets Meg and Hercules and gets challenged to an arm wrestling duel (which he wins)

During the Pirates of the Caribbean ride Alex keeps saying “this sucks” or “this isn’t what home was like. ” or “where the hell is Johnny Depp? I was promised Johnny Depp.”

John being a complete gentleman to the princesses and them being like “oh what a well mannered prince” and he’s like “nah I’m just from the south. ”

Thomas hanging out with Jasmine and the two being sassy as hell.

James almost crying cause he meets Eeyore and Piglet and he loves those two so much and when they hug him he cries.

Burr singing with Tiana and they’re killin it.

Angelica meeting Mulan and Merida and does Badass poses with them.

Eliza and Snow White singing and dancing together.

The princesses taking a liking and comforting Maria and being such awesome girls.

JOHN MEETING MOANA AND THE TWO HAVE A BLAST TALKING ABOUT THE OCEAN AND TURTLES.

Peggy doing poses with EVERY character. Like with villains she poses evil like and with princesses she pretends to be elegant and badass and with the other characters (like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy all of them) she is silly.

Eliza and Maria meeting Minnie and having a grand old time.

Hey there frends-

I know a lot of you out there are struggling to acquire binders, and while you’re waiting to get one you might need an alternative. Ace bandages can be pretty hazardous to your health, so I thought I’d share my binding method with you. It came about out of necessity (I’m not in a position where I can buy myself a commercial binder,) but it’s comfortable and works great. I use it everyday and pass so well, at this point I’m not even looking into commercial binders anymore.

This is a long post but this is important especially if you live somewhere where fireworks have been going off every night all of a sudden for weeks now.

if you been following this blog of mine for a while you know i’m NOT into conspiracy theories BUT this shit is fucking fishy as hell. this is NOT fucking normal and i truly believe this is a part of how police fight back against calls to defund and/or disband them. i’ve said for a while now (mostly on twitter) that ppl who want to abolish the police (i am one of them) need to get ready for war cause cops will fight us to the point of killing us to maintain their power. i absolutely believe they are believe this sudden and constant stream of fireworks happening across the country targeted in areas where there were massive marches calling to defund the police. this would be very easy to coordinate given all the communication tools we have today (whatapp, fb messenger, ig direct message, skype and etc) and like the last tweeter stated, given all the crap we know the police be involved in, giving away fireworks ain’t shit BUT if raises the number of complaints they don’t respond to, they can use that to make themselves look good. i mean check it…

that’s a hell of a fucking jump (for all the ppl who want to claim this is normal (stfu)) and they are not responding to those calls. why? they are behind it and then they can use this to say “see, y’all need us. don’t defund us.” 

i won’t repeat what’s already in the tweets but yea, i am 100% this is warfare by the police against calls to hold them accountable and to defund them BUT we can’t back down. the mere fact they are doing this proves they are scared and we are right. 

fuck the police!
