For the past 5 years, in between the super time consuming and grueling work of creating the video stories for I Left My Heart in Uncanny Valley, I’ve been working on a third, and possibly final album titled “Drummssdullville.” This concept goes way back to the early/mid 1990s when I was in middle and high school trying to write and create a musical theatre play. Fast forward 30 years later, and I didn’t want to attempt to actually create a play, as I do not have the people, time or resources for such a project. But since I really wanted the songs from it to see the light of day, I decided it should be a concept album.
I wanted it to have a heavier, and more serious or somber tone than the last two albums, and something to separate it in style. What I REALLY wanted was to create a prog album. Now, I am no prog musician, with absurd piano skills or classical music training, but I thought I’d give it a try regardless. That’s just how I do things. I find a way to make it work as close to how I envision it as possible.
And here enters the multi-talented, versatile and intuitive Norwood Grimes. We’ve known each other for about a decade now. He appears in the song and video for Monosaccharide Inducer. He’s a top notch guitar player with a huge catalogue and multiple projects. I’d record drums, piano, organ and vocals, leaving room for guitar, and pass them to him. We’d briefly discuss it, and then later he’d come back with lead and rhythm guitar compositions weaved into and throughout the song that just blew me away. It took a very long time, but it all came together very nicely. I feel he has an intuitive understanding of how I write, and the moods and styles I was trying to convey with these songs. I really hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Also a couple of the tracks have drums by an awesome prog drummer named Grenwa.
I want to thank everyone who was involved in its creation, and everyone who has been waiting for it to be complete!
