Looking back at Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers" one of the most unique films I've ever seen.

Harmony Korine is an interesting fellow. Writing the screenplay for the cult hit "Kids" when he was only 19 followed by directing some...unique films. Such as Gummo. and continued to write scripts for director Larry Clark (Ken Park, Bully)

He proved to be a competent writer. but I found his films unwatchable.

Except for this masterpiece. At surface level it makes the last sentence appear a joke.

But buried under all the bling, drugs, skittle vision cinematography and of course beautiful women in bikini's, is a dark, touching, humorous (if not taken TOO serious) tragic portrayal of the emptiness of Hedonism.

The story follows four college girls trying to go to spring break. But they are too broke. They turn to robbery and off they go.

party, party, party partaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! Uh O-

But a local Rapper named Alien (James Franco) bails them out.

What follows is more hedonism that now includes violence, robbing people, James Franco deepthroating a pistol.. yeah it gets weird.

Alien brings the ladies back to his place for a hilarious monologue of "look at my shit!"

Funny and, imo, nails the vapidness of obsession with material wealth.

Alien is all show. After Spring Break ends, the girls remain and that's when things get darker and darker.

One girl leaves after Alien freaks her out. Another after a blast of violence. Leaving the two most hardcore of the bunch. The ending, well the entire film, is "unrealistic" and just wonderful.

The cinematography is out of this word. Parts of the film repeat over and over ("Spring Breaaaaaak yaw!" x 10)

Scenes will jump back and forth-and forward, repeat, flash back. Korine is following his own set of rules.

This is my favorite scene.

Brittany Spears, Girls in bikini's wearing "Pussy Riot" style masks toting guns and slamming cakes into peoples faces and its so beautiful it makes me almost cry?
