I love the fact that literally the main problem with the Iron throne is that it's impossible to sit on it without the risk of cutting yourself and Aegon is just:

You guys need to understand that modern Aegon would be succesfull youtuber/tiktoker! I am tired of this flipping fries/beggar agenda. You all need to open your third eye and see the truth.
Think about it, he would be male version of Tana Mongou.
"horrible relapse in my judgement" videos week after week.
Cringy horrible thirst trap on tiktok, he would think he ate it but he simply isnt on the joke.
When i close my eyes i have this vision of all green family members sitting at the ceremonial table. Everyone is silent, only the sounds of chewing and the clatter of cutlery can be heard.
Haelana, Daeron, Aemond all attend some ivy legue uni.
And here is Aegon, wearing tacky gold chain, supreme t-shirt and ankle monitor becouse he, yet again fucked something up(propably something with crypto) but makes shit load of money doing the most idiotic, lazy shit while the rest of them is in a school debt.
Aemond wants to jump over the table and murder him.
Aegon is propably banned from Japan.
Wake up people and see the truth.

Somehow Catelyn not saying the word shit makes this feel like a classy way to tell off Jaime but she is literally kicking over a bucket of shit. lmao.
"On my honor as a Lannister." "Your honor as a Lannister is worth less than this." She kicked over the waste pail. Foul-smelling brown ooze crept across the floor of the cell, soaking into the straw. Jaime Lannister backed away from the spill as far as his chains would allow. "I may indeed have shit for honor, I won't deny it, but I have never yet hired anyone to do my killing. Believe what you will, Lady Stark, but if I had wanted your Bran dead I would have slain him myself."

ever thought about how aegon was alicent‘s first and her last left? your house is burning and your children are gone. except him. except him. he came back to her, unrecognizable, burnt and twisted, but he came back to her. she has him still.
i have done everything you’ve asked me to. i try so hard but it will never be enough for you. and it wasn‘t. she asked him to save their family, save the realm, save her. he didn‘t, he couldn‘t. he did come back to her. he had cursed her on the day he was born.
do you love me? you imbecile. i love those bones of you. i love you so much i have sacrificed everything to see you on the throne. i have sacrificed my youth. sacrificed my decency. sacrificed my oldest. i have sacrificed you. i love you. my oldest, my firstborn, my sacrifice.
and as he walks towards his mother like an animal to his butcher she plants a kiss on his forehead. her little sacrificial lamb, he came back. came back to her. did i do well mother? did i do enough? no. i love you. you came back.
i wonder who he thought about when the poison touched his lips.

Rhaenyra’s genuinely an unlikable character when you really get to the root of it. Not because she’s coddled, arrogant and entitled, but because aside from that she’s so…boring. She has no unique traits or qualities that make her really stand out, we don’t really know her true motives or intentions behind anything outside of just being short sited and mistakenly believing her position as heir will be enough to shield her from consequences and her complacency fueled by arrogance.
Plus we don’t really know the reasons behind wanting to rule outside of “i will be queen because daddy says so”. Why does she want to be queen? What kind of ruler does she intend to be? What legacy did she wish to leave behind? Entitlement aside, without these things being made clear, it’s impossible to really root for her when you don’t know what they intend to do or stand for as a ruler.
Part of the problem is that we’re often told that she would complain about her duties but we are never shown her actually doing so or told why she does it either, which is a major issue with hotd as a whole. Too much telling but not enough showing to add context to situations, especially when the context was present in the source material.
In comparison, we are shown glimpses of what lead to alicent being how she was in later years which made me gravitate to her more though i have some grievances with her character, i don’t find her boring because we at least have some understanding of her character. Meanwhile rhaenyra just gives the impression of “I’m technically the protagonist so you’re supposed to like me” which…is honestly not something i can blame on her as a character entirely but on bad writing.

the lord of the tides and the green council worst episodes of all time. “it all makes perfect sense if you accept that alicent loves rhaenyra” no, it doesn’t. why wasn’t the apology in episode 6 enough, then? this show is incoherent.
and i wonder why no one ever fantasizes about rhaenyra giving up on pursuing the throne in favor of alicent’s son, for alicent. no, it’s alicent who has to be the eternal handmaiden, constantly giving and giving, all for the woman that wouldn’t spit on her if she was on fire. “she remembered the page!” her character does not revolve around alicent. it just doesn’t, and it’s not even close. wonder why indeed.

i hate hotd's "female rage".
do you guys realize that the only time alicent was allowed to be angry was when her son was maimed? and then, of course, she's ashamed of her behavior and regrets it.
do you guys realize that rhaenyra is only allowed to be vengeful and to want her throne only AFTER luke's death. she's not allowed to be angry that her crown was stolen, she only wants peace <3 it's only after her child is murdered that she's allowed to be angry.
meanwhile male characters like daemon are throwing a tantrum every other episode and it's cool and sexy when they do it <3 <3 <3

alicent hightower isn’t real, she can’t hear your hilariously funny jokes about her rape, which are rooted in victim blaming and rape apology rhetorics. but rape victims are real and we can read your pseudo-deep analyses on how 15-year-old girl apparently outpowered the fucking king and should be blamed for seducing his old ass. it’s getting tiring.

“Alicent Hightower’s son sits on my throne”
I feel like Rhaenyra truly projected all her anger from Viserys onto Alicent because she was the easier target to hate rather than her father. Rhaenyra is no fool and knows that her father having sons put her and her family in immediate danger but instead of hating her father for his folly. She projected it onto Alicent for giving birth to her rival, supplanting her mother and essentially betraying their friendship but what Rhaenyra failed to understand is Alicent never had a choice in the matter and it’s that lack of choice that moves Alicent to finally act because Alicent needs Aegon to be king for her entire miserable existence to have actually meant something and in doing so steals the very thing that Rhaenyra has been clinging onto for all these years after losing her brother, her mother, and her bestfriend. Alicent who surely thinks Rhaenyra has had everything surely she can relinquish this one thing to me and her siblings? Rhaenyra who thinks this is the only thing I had left, how can you take it from me?
God it’s sickening.

The thing is, if the leaks are true and they're combining Rhaena and Nettles ... there's still time to fix it. We're getting 3-4 seasons. So, maybe it's possible to bring Nettles in later. My hope is that the mashup doesn't happen at all, but if it does, then I lean more towards the route that so many shows have done before when backlash happens (justified or otherwise) which is to correct or overcorrect their mistake because the writers and directors get shamed and harassed on twitter.
previously i was speculating that they'd end season 2 when *spoiler* rhaenys and melys face aegon and sunfyre *end spoiler*, which is before nettles appears, so i wasn't super worried. but now i'm side-eyeing that, given the leaks about rhaena discovering a sheep-eating dragon.
i honestly wouldn't even be that annoyed by it if not for the context. there are already FAR too many characters on the show. most of the cast feels incredibly overwritten or interchangeable due to the smushing of 10 years into 10 hours (larys, criston, aegon, harwin, every child on team black). so it makes sense that they'd cut some characters.
but what's genuinely appalling to me is the race-bending of the velaryons just to have them die violently or exemplify rhaenyra's feminism. furthermore, playing up the homophobia and misogyny that rhaenyra and laenor suffer to make the audience sympathize with tb, and then UTTERLY ignoring and/or writing out black characters and racism in-universe--especially rhaenyra's canonical racism--to continue forcing this narrative of rhaenyra being a completely flawless candidate for the throne.

‘Cersei and Joffrey and the general trauma Sansa suffers leads her down a path of hating herself in the same way Cersei does; hating her naivety, partly wanting to shame others who are still like that as a means to project it outwards and yet she never quite does. And not only is that a triumph of her empathy in the face of her situation but it is also a triumph of belief in herself; still seeing goodness within herself rather than just something to shame and attack the way everyone makes her internalise. If these other people deserve empathy, even when part of her does feel the opposite, if they still deserve empathy, so does she. I think all of this tells us she did have a lot of loving experiences from her parents growing up. That as much as she might feel self-hatred a lot of the time there is still a little voice in there saying ‘no you deserve more, you are more than they say.’ At many points it’s a very faint, faint voice in this story but what’s important is that it is there.’
Oh my god. He gets it. I really think the entire asoiaf fandom should watch this video. I mean, op is a child therapist - of course he has a better grasp of her complexity than half the freaking fandom.

i think one of the top 10 most egregiously biased and context-stripped adaptational decisions is changing ser joffrey's death from criston killing him by accident in a joust (completely normal for this world) to straight up murking him at a wedding to no consequence bc he was starstruck by his feelings for rhaenyra

In book canon, Blood and Cheese slip inside Alicent's chambers, strangle her bedmaid, tie her up and gag her so that she can't scream. They wait for Helaena to come inside because they knew it was part of her routine to bid her mother goodnight before she went to bed. Imagine how scared, how helpless Alicent must have felt, knowing two wicked and dangerous men were waiting for her daughter and grandchildren, not knowing yet knowing exactly why all of that was happening, and not being able to do anything to warn or protect her baby girl.

every time I think about Astrid I have to briefly become unwell about the way she, specifically, uses the name 'bren'.
caleb himself seems to be fairly neutral on what name is used for him. every so often the nein would come across someone, usually an authority figure that matt wanted them to trust, and they would ask him what name he prefers and he'd basically reply "my pronouns are i/me and anything else is a you problem"
so Astrid calls him bren. he's bren to her. except she doesn't when she's around the nein. I really distinctly remember jester sending to her once and she said "and tell caleb..."
he's her bren but their caleb. she was there for that dinner. she's seen the way trent used bren like a power play. when they're not alone she uses caleb.
which is to say that I think if I were astrid and that little purple bitch said "bren says hello" to me when he doesn't even call him bren, I would have cast fireball on the both of us.
