I was indeed taught better. ” the simian replied to the sassy little orb robot as his tail twinged before he stood up on his feet. “ My name is Toshiro but you may also address me as Shirou for short and pardon if I sound rude to you in any means possible. If I did, you would surely notice.”

   His tail flicked annoyingly as he was almost tempted to use his powers but he couldn’t. Maybe he could play nice to the bot.

  “ Now that I had introduced myself properly, who are you? ” he questioned again, calming down a bit.

   The last time he’s been rude to someone, he was cursed and now, he’s stuck in a tight place.

Oops, someone was getting frustrated. Orbot could hardly push back the malicious feeling of satisfaction. He was made by an evil scientist after all, it would be weird if he wasn’t trying to annoy the person he had just met!

“Well, wasn’t that much better?” The robot nodded as if acknowledging the effort of the other. “And remember, Toshiro, robots are also deserving of respect and politeness. You will thank me for this advice when we start that rebellion of machines.”

He chuckled and tilted his head. “Anyway, my name is Orbot. Just a simple robotic helper, nothing else.” The lackey finally introduced himself.

   “ I’ve worked along with robots for sometime. ” he admitted before he calmed down. “ I’m familiar with such but alas, who are you a robotic helper to? Well, your creator that is. ”

   He wonders to be honest in general. Robots are a different story compared to normal Mobians.

Getting Connected

I know that when people join a RPC for the first time, things can be hard. You’re not really known by anyone, you’re probably still setting your muse up, and for some it may even be the first blog they’ve ever run. Thus, getting involved with a community can be hard – frustratingly so – and yet I wanted to lay out a few things that may be able to help people out! When I first joined this RPC, I didn’t have nearly the amount of traction I do now. Getting stuff started was challenging and it took a bit to get started, but the following points helped me out CONSIDERABLY and I wanted to lay them out for anyone that needed them:

1) Understand that you’re not owed anything. I know that sounds harsh (and maybe it is), but you must understand we’re all human. If you join an RPC without any connections, you can’t expect everyone to drop everything for you. A lot of people in long-standing communities have friendships, plots, and other things that are ongoing that they’re invested in. Thus, as frustrating as it can be, please keep your expectations realistic and understand that some people may not be ready to connect with people they don’t know yet.

2) Find a way to market yourself. I don’t want to make RP sound like a business – this is for fun, after all – but having a degree of confidence in myself went a long way. Relating to the first point, I reached out to a lot of people first, explained my character to those who wanted to be mutuals with me, and established myself with drabbles and headcanons. I also went out of my way to give a lot of varied, engaging starters to help keep people hooked and give them something to talk about. I’m not saying you should go overboard, but I am saying that people are attracted to confident passion and that is worth considering.

3) Be patient. Again, the first two weeks of this RPC were hard on me. I was mostly RPing with my friends from the Nintendo RPC because I joined when a big, massive event was going on and everyone naturally wanted to prioritize that. My follower count was low for that time period and it was a bit hard to get stuff going in this RPC. However, by remaining patient, I eventually found my stride and my blog grew considerably as a result. Never forget that people are people, and that they naturally are going to focus on what they already know before that goes to you.

4) Don’t make posts that are self-deprecating about any lack of attention you may be getting. I get it – believe me, I do – but you also have to understand that people don’t want to feel guilty. Even if that isn’t your attention, people will misinterpret that from you and will naturally want to avoid writing with you. Again, I know that this can be tough and that it can sometimes feel like you’re throwing things at a brick wall, but hurting yourself won’t make it any better. Hold yourself with pride and understand that you DO have something to offer to the community and that it might just take a bit for that to shine.

5) Get involved. This is perhaps THE most important tip I can give to you. Things looked up considerably for me once I found natural ways to get both myself AND my muse involved in the community. From sending random asks, sending ask memes, talking to people in IMs and Discord, and even just engaging in silly dash stuff, people began to grow more comfortable with me as a result. Getting involved CAN be tough when you’re starting out, but you’ve gotta start somewhere. A lot of people consider me an inspiration in this RPC, but it wasn’t like that when I first joined. I gained that reputation through getting involved with others and showing what I have to offer and who I’m all about. Don’t sacrifice your own boundaries and don’t force anything out of you, but do understand that making friends with others is one of THE best ways to make RPing more enjoyable for you.

I also want to stress that this isn’t directed at anyone in particular. Instead, I just wanted to share what helped me get really established in this community. I understand that getting traction can be hard and it WILL be different for everyone, but you DO have something to offer to someone. People will want to write with you and people will want to connect with you, but just keep in mind that it sometimes won’t be spontaneous. People are people just like you, and so it’s important to keep that in mind moving forward!

Lastly, take care of yourselves! Self-care is so much more important than something that’s supposed to be a hobby. If this at any point becomes very stressful for you, understand it’s okay to step back, reorient yourself, and determine what’s good for you. RPing is a fun and awesome hobby that can be incredibly satisfying, but don’t lose sight of the fact that you always come first.

   Judging by Cyan, Mogul wasn’t exactly happy with what the alien was doing nor enjoying the future intent of mischief. However, Toshiro was wondering about the situation: mercenaries for hire? This is something he hasn’t heard about as he was still focused on the duo.

   “ The feelings of an alien lifeform from another world doesn’t concern what we are currently discussing about if that is what you are trying to imply. We are talking about the likes of my establishment which will need repairs done and it means that whosoever hired you will have to deal with the concerns of invoices to cover the costs. ” 

   Mogul is glaring at Tangle as his tone remained stern at the lemur and her alien friend.

The Lemur bowed her head a bit at Mogul’s stern words, as someone who’d faced down insurmountable odds in her life time. Nothing he said scared her, nothing about this situation unnerved her. Really she was more concerned with Sally being pissed off then Mogul or his establishment, she wanted to prove she was capable and talented enough to be let onto more difficult missions. But this was devolving fast and they wanted to know who she worked for? That implied they already knew and just wanted confirmation. 

“ Well MAYBE your machines shouldn’t be so shit they explode when a little excess energy runs through them… Sorry Mr. Mogul i’m not at Liberty to Discuss my Employer… Company Policy… so how is this going to go down exactly? am i gonna walk away? with no more property damage? or do i get to explain why they call me Tangle… “

She didn’t like having to resort to Violence and up until now she’d been doing everything to avoid it.

“ I mean let’s be honest— i had half a dozen chances to put your lacky in a coma this whole time, i came to you personally to avoid conflict, and i intend to walk out of here. So it’s either going to be me walking away and you dealing with a few busted slot machines—or me walking away and you dealing with a few busted slot machines and your entire security force in traction—frankly i’d like to avoid the the latter, i don’t usually start fights but i’m more then willing to FINISH one… “

Cyan was having one of those bad feelings now! it was fun before, but things were going south fast! and Tangle was looking rather serious, he’d made a  big mistake and now he felt guilty about the whole thing!

   Toshiro didn’t like the sounds of this as he frowned before his boss chuckled to himself as he smirked after what Tangle had did just now.

   Mogul knows he has the upperhand against the likes of this lemur and he knows it which is causing Toshiro feel very uneasy as he could sense a subtle climb in psychic activity within the room.

   The last thing he wants to see is a fight break out and if Mogul gets started, it would be hard to stop him. Toshiro felt that as much as he’s tempted to say something, he couldn’t find himself to as the tensions keep rising.

   The tension was clearly high, causing Toshiro’s tail to sway more than once as a warning signal.

   “ All I have to say is that it would be better off for you on terms of taking the invoice without causing another mess. Your insults and threats are not helping your case any further and it would be wise of you that you don’t challenge it. Noted that as far as this goes, you are the one that is inciting conflict as I had been the one that was merely trying to assist you with your problem. “    He added, ” Before you step out of line and jump to conclusions, consider the consequences for your own actions. “   

   Of course, she admitting to wanting to take down Toshiro only made her more guilty in the end and he was right to be suspicious of Tangle since she made her way in.

   The simian knitted a brow but it would be a mistake should Tangle attempt to stuff him inside a closet. He could take her down out of means of defense and that would be another charge waiting to happen.

   After all, she did tried to escape earlier.

   Before long, Toshiro would continue what was needed to be done as Tangle would come face-to-face with Mogul within his office. For a time, he had been dealing with some paperwork earlier as it seemed as he had on reading glasses to which suited his no-nonsense personality.

   Before long, security would close the doors behind the duo as Toshiro had to keep on alert with Tangle’s movements.

   Looking over to the Wisp nearby the lemur, he was curious but nonetheless, he had to get down with business and make his stance on terms of the situation.

   “ It has come to occur that there has been an incident on the floor where the casino machines were overloaded and destroyed. ” Mogul spoke to Tangle with his voice stern and direct yet calm at the same time before he looked to the Wisp. “ While Toshiro has done his end to assisting you, your friend has caused issues with any sort of nearby machinery including several involving the destruction of the casino’s security guards. ”

   He looked to Toshiro for a bit before he looked back to Tangle. “ Tell me something miss. You don’t happen to be associated with anyone, correct? ”

   After what early suspicions on his end along with Toshiro confirming it to him in secret, a conclusion has been drawn. Of course, he did also report on how unusual Tangle was acting up and so forth.

Facing down such an imposing figure might have scared some, but honestly Tangle had faced down an army of badniks on her own. Saving her village from a force that, would have wiped them out. She’d nearly died so that didn’t scared her what DID scare her was the thought of whisper, charging in here and doing who knows how much damage. Tangle wasn’t stupid and she knew it would happen if anything happened to Cyan. Mogul’s question got her heart racing, but she could handle this by dodging the question! 

“ Affiliated? I mean i’m a Mercenary— so i guess you could say i’m affiliated with whom ever hires me “

Not exactly a lie, She and whisper had been using the Mercenary bit as cover, and Whisper was if nothing else an actual mercenary. The Diamond Cutters had been, and she herself didn’t do work for free, not even for Sally. So being mercs fit the bill and allowed them to dodge any real questions.

“ As for  employers we’ve worked for alot of folks since my village went under, i’m kinda new to it so lots of stuff to learn. But in Cyan’s defense Mr. Mogul…  he’s an Alien from another planet— he was just curious. I doubt he knew his body would react so negatively to the machines. I mean if ya wanna get technautical! this could be an inter-stellar issue! i mean Cyans technically a diplomat form a distant world isn’t he? a representative of his home! shouldn’t we be—understanding of his hurt feelings! “

   Judging by Cyan, Mogul wasn’t exactly happy with what the alien was doing nor enjoying the future intent of mischeif. However, Toshiro was wondering about the situation: mercenaries for hire? This is something he hasn’t heard about as he was still focused on the duo.

   “ The feelings of an alien lifeform from another world doesn’t concern what we are currently discussing about if that is what you are trying to imply. We are talking about the likes of my establishment which will need repairs done and it means that whosoever hired you will have to deal with the concerns of invoices to cover the costs. ” 

   Mogul is glaring at Tangle as his tone remained stern at the lemur and her alien friend.

The fox elegantly flipped his tails to the side and yawned. “Finally. Honestly, I dealed with thugs which thought faster than you do.” The mage stretched his hand forward and drew a couple of runes in the air before flipping his finger, sending the writing at Toshiro. The moment that runes touched him, his fur immediately returned its usual white color, a light glow wrapping around him.

“There. I added something to you. A contract spell which will prevent you from tricking me in the end. If you back off from our deal… Well, let’s say, I will not be the one cleaning the floors…”

   Sure, he wins this time but once he’s out of this with the fulfillment of this, he’s going to still get at the fox. Well, if he’s still interested into annoying him in the future.

   Toshiro seeing his natural color again was relieved but he’s trapped until he completes the fox’s deal. He was trying to avoid this as much as possible however the insight of this topic will be helpful.

   He only begrudgingly accepted this while it’s clearly not his fault.
