Tracy Kidder's latest narrative is entitled, "Strength in What Remains-A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness," (Random House, 2009). In May 1994, 24 year-old Deogratias Niyizonkiza (aka Deo) boarded a plane from his native country of Burundi in East Central Africa; bound for JFK Airport in New York City. He had two hundred dollars to his name, spoke no English and had no American contacts. He fortunately escaped the Rwandan genocide accountable for an estimated 800,000 deaths that year. Tensions between the Hutus and Tutsis initiated the killings (Kidder provides historical notes to comprehend their conflict). Deo had been a third-year medical student in his homeland. He arrived stateside with the herculean dream of becoming a doctor.
Immigration authorities questioned Deo upon landing; alarmed by his French-only dialect, and paltry funds. Deo benefited from this pre-911 era. Muhammad, a French-speaking baggage handler interpreted Deo's story for the officials; and offered him a place to stay. Immigration agreed and Deo began his American life. Muhammad, originally from Senegal, planned to return home; and lived in a Harlem tenement to save money. Deo slept on the floor in a destitute, doorless room. Muhammad introduced Deo to the New York City Subway; showing him areas that included Manhattan's Upper East Side. There, he secured a job at a supermarket, working twelve-hour shifts, parc central residences floor plan聽 six days a week, for fifteen dollars daily pay. He had no lunch break. Soon, Muhammad returned to Senegal, leaving Deo alone. Deo disliked his Harlem residence and discovered people slept in Central Park. He joined the ranks.
Deo's grocery delivery route introduced him to prominent New Yorkers; some of whom became instrumental in helping him achieve his career aspirations. Their cash, connections, and shelter enabled him to enroll in an English as a Second Language class. Deo graduated with a General Studies degree in 1995. He worked in a hospice at a New York City hospital to keep his medical ties.
In 2001 Deo pursued public health education in Boston. He met Paul Farmer, founder of Partners in Health (Kidder profiled Farmer in his 2003 story, Mountains Beyond Mountains). Farmer befriended Deo and helped him advance his medical career. In summer 2005, Deo worked for Farmer's organization in Rwanda. He became inspired to build a clinic in Kayanza, a town in his native Burundi. In 2006, Deo withdrew from his medical education to address clinic-building full-time (He would return to his schooling elsewhere in 2009). Deo became a United States citizen in 2007, another defining moment in his illustrious life.
Deo's story is remarkable given the tribulations he experienced during his Rwandan exodus. Dogs roamed the streets feasting on human heads. An infant continued to breast feed from its dead mother propped up against banana trees. Families were found slaughtered in their huts. Deo avoided detection by Rwandan militiamen by hiding under his bed. A Hutu woman befriended Deo (a Tutsi), and secretly helped him cross the Rwandan Border; and US Immigration officials trusted his story upon arriving at JFK Airport.
Kidder is known for immersing himself in his subjects' lives to authenticate his story. In 2006, he and Deo revisited his nascent American days while living in New York City. They toured the Harlem tenement where he'd slept, rode familiar subway routes; and walked Central Park where he also slumbered. From there they traveled back to Burundi where Deo relived his six-month exodus during the genocide. Deo's native language colors Kidder's narrative. The book's Part Two is titled "Gusimbura." It means to avoid using a person's name when talking about their death to loved ones, to relieve heartache. During his return visit to Burundi, Deo practiced much Gusimbura.

Few areas across the nation are experiencing the kind of population growth that is taking place in Eastern Wake County. Unlike Vegas, you will not find any flashing neon lights and mega casinos. You will find an occasional tobacco field, a few cow pastures, and long stretches of highway surrounded by trees, not buildings. To the everyday family looking to relocate, the idea of moving to Eastern Wake County may be easy to ignore. But, for those who want value and an opportunity to be on the upswing of growth, the towns of Knightdale, Wendell, and Zebulon, North Carolina offer both. Here are five reasons to consider relocating to Eastern Wake County.
1) Employment - If cows, scenic roadways, and tobacco fields are not attractive to you, maybe the lure of a thriving job market is. Eastern Wake County is located less than a twenty-five minute commute to one of the hottest job markets in the nation - the Research Triangle. This area encompasses the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina; home to some of the best universities in the nation. The expansion of several major thoroughfares creates easy access from Eastern Wake County to the Triangle area. Commutes that once took hours have now been reduced to mere minutes.
2) Home Value - Housing is another reason to consider Eastern Wake County. Buyers no longer have to settle for decent sized homes on postage stamp sized lots. Eastern Wake County is home to parc central residences pdf聽 several blossoming neighborhoods, filled with large custom homes and spacious lots. Buyers can enjoy granite countertops, hardwood flooring, spacious entertaining areas, and screened porches without having to invest a fortune. Home values are steadily increasing, even though large tracts of undeveloped land exist. Investing in Eastern Wake County is comparable to investing in a promising undervalued stock.
3) Education - As mentioned above, some of the nation's most respected universities are located in the Triangle area. People residing in the towns of Knightdale, Wendell, and Zebulon have the opportunity to study at over a dozen community colleges and universities conveniently located in the area. Elementary and secondary schools in the area are not bad either. The Wake County Public School System was recognized as one of the Top 10 systems in the country, and continues to grow at an exponential rate. Area students continue to excel nationally on standardized tests.
4) Leisure and Recreation - Centrally located, Eastern Wake County residents are equidistant from North Carolina beaches and the mountains. Within the area, Eastern Wake County offers access to walking trails, community parks and pools, and other outdoor activities. The long summers allow locals to enjoy several months of outdoor and leisure activities such as fishing and horseback riding. In all seasons, formal recreation leagues and activities are sponsored by the towns of Knightdale, Wendell, and Zebulon.
5) Hospitals & Medical Facilities - Growth in the area has attracted several major hospitals and private medical practitioners. Local residents have great access to primary care facilities and local pharmacies. Both Duke and Rex Healthcare have begun to break ground on facilities in the town of Knightdale, NC, while Wake Medical (WakeMed) has laid out plans to build a facility in the town of Zebulon, North Carolina. The arrival of three new major medical facilities makes the Eastern Wake County all the more attractive.

The Soviet Union had a centrally planned LABOR market and economy. However, contrary to the widespread image of a system where workers were obliged to stay in the jobs that they were allocated, the Soviet LABOR market was characterised by a considerable degree of LABOR mobility. In practice, workers were reasonably free to change jobs and employers were reasonably free to compete for their LABOR.
There is evidence that the vast majority of hires were arranged directly between the individual and the prospective employer, reviews data for medium and large enterprises from a wide range of sources and finds that the turnover rate from the 1960s onwards was approximately 20% per annum. This rate was comparable to that of Western European countries and higher than that of countries such as Italy and Japan. Thus, although there were some restrictions on LABOR mobility, through housing and administrative constraints, by and large workers could move and were guaranteed employment and job security.
The image of an inflexible LABOR market comes from the Stalinist period (1930s) when workers were forbidden parc central residence brochure聽 to quit their jobs. Jackman and Rutkowski (1994) describe the Stalinist LABOR market by five distinctive characteristics. First, workers had not only a right, but also an obligation to work, and staying out of the LABOR force was considered 'parasitism'. Second, the State had the right to assign graduates to a specific location for a few years, often in remote areas (although non-compliance was relatively high). Third, a certain degree of forced LABOR did exist, and concentration camps were used, mainly for construction, mining and forestry.
Fourth, the state utilised mass mobilization campaigns, particularly of youth, to carry out special tasks such as construction or agricultural projects. Finally, the Government strictly controlled LABOR migration, particularly to urban areas through a system of internal passports or permanent residence permits - the notorious 'propiska' system, which has only recently been abolished in many of the former republics (Jackman and Rutkowski, 1994, p.122-123).
By the mid-1950s, most of these restrictions were lifted, and by the 1970s and 1980s the Soviet LABOR market functioned more like that of a market economy than a centrally planned one. Workers were by and large allowed to choose their jobs, skills or profession as well as the region where they worked, and they were free to resign (Jackman and Rutkowski, 1994, p. 123).
However, wage policy did remain fixed by the central government. A system of wage differentials existed such that jobs were graded according to output levels, hour's worked, regional coefficients and other factors, instead of human capital and productivity (Jackman and Rutkowski, 1994, p. 127). As a consequence, contrary to western industrialised countries, high incomes were associated with manual workers rather than with greater human capital. Because of the Soviet emphasis on industrial production, wages in construction and manufacturing were particularly high, whereas they were below average in agriculture and even lower in the services sector, comprised largely of education, health and culture (Yemtsov, 2001, p.8). Moreover, tax-based income policies, which imposed a wage tax on incomes above certain levels, further put a ceiling on earnings. As a consequence, enterprises competed for LABOR with benefits such as welfare facilities, subsidized kindergartens, housing, the right to buy a car or consumer durables.
The Soviet system was characterised by substantial LABOR surplus at the micro level, and perennial shortages at the macro level. Georgia, for instance, was classified as a region of "excess LABOR supply', where the working age population exceeded the number of official jobs. Thus, although unemployment did not officially exist, Marnie estimates that in 1989, 10% of working age adults in Georgia had not been provided with official jobs (Marnie, 1992). Similarly, a surplus of LABOR at the firm level was very common. As there was no incentive to use LABOR efficiently, enterprises would hoard substantial reserves of LABOR to meet the fluctuating demand, which resulted from what were often inadequate investment strategies (Clarke, 1999, p.4).
At the same time, scarcity of LABOR at the macro level was one of the main concerns of policy makers throughout the Soviet period. From the early 1930s to the 1950s, one of the Government's key priorities was to transfer large numbers of the rural population to manufacturing centres and extractive industry, as part of the national plan for industrial development. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s it became necessary to draw on the non-working urban population (primarily women with children and pensioners) to meet production targets.
Although the consequence of LABOR hoarding was low LABOR productivity (studies suggest that by the mid-1980s, LABOR productivity was one third of that of the middle-income countries of the OECD)", it was not a major concern, as the ultimate goal of enterprises was not that of profit maximization. Soviet enterprises were expected to meet production targets, but most of all they were 'social' enterprises in that they were the main locus of social integration within the Soviet system. As described by Clarke (1999), LABOR market policy was based on the ideal of a job for life and the work place was almost a 'second home'.

A number of years ago, in conjunction with my work with treating sexual addiction, a number of masochistic or submissive men began to come to me for help. The clients I saw did not seem immature or inferior. In fact, the reverse seemed to be true. They were successful by social standards: professionally, emotionally, and culturally, in marriages or out. They were frequently individuals of inner strength of character, possessed of strong coping skills and an ethical sense of individual responsibility.
I was initially at a loss. From these men came stories of contracting to be whipped, caned, verbally humiliated and more by a professional dominatrix. From these men came stories of having the dominatrix put a catheter up their penises, a procedure that is excruciatingly painful. More followed. The usual canning and whipping by an attractive young woman garbed in the traditional black leather garb, garter belts, spike high heels and wielding the ever-phallic whip. Over the years, the stories ensued: the cock-and ball torture, the hot, dripping wax on naked skin, the diaper fetishist who wants the Dom to be the babysitter; the writer who handcuffed himself to the radiator and had the Dom put safety pins in his anus; the man who wore a ribbon around his penis and, at the behest of the Dom, ate her birthday cake out of a dog bowl; the very heterosexual man who was parc central residence ec聽 obsessed with penises; the fellow who's dominant fantasy was to be a human toilet; wrestling fetishes with a strong woman who bests them; the business man who required extensive verbal humiliation prior to having the Dom put his head in the toilet.
A client of mine once called me na茂ve. Didn't I know that there were probably 25 "dungeons" within a five-block radius of my 40th Street office? Dungeons? You mean like bats and rocks and dripping water? No, it seems, in luxury apartment complexes where the Dominatrix will have a "special" room for her torture and play.
The internet has fast blossomed to become the hottest sex show in town. A single dominatrix website offers thousands of eager ladies offering their fare. And there are hundreds of sites. If demand equals supply, it would seem that the search for the right dominatrix is a part of a significant number of American men. Is this condition of submitting fully to another may counter lives that, in our Western society are ego- centered, constrained, rational and competitive. Masculinity can be a burden.
I thought of the quantity of guys who leave for their lunch break, see the Dom, get the be-Jesus beat out of them and return, relaxed and focused, to take up their afternoon work assignments, and then go home to the wife and kids.
Does any of this even resemble sex? Is there an orgasm in this picture? How it is that humiliation and/or excruciating physical pain is the exclusive sexual delight for so many unfortunate fellows? And who is this "dominatrix" figure who yields such power (at $250 a throw, much more than my hourly fee!) - what DOES she represent? How is it that my clients consistently seek for "her", find "her" but are continually disappointed and disillusioned at the end of the session?

Your first test is to come to terms with the fact that we humans have a nonphysical component that lends itself beyond our normal five senses. Consider our entire being, both the physical and nonphysical, similar to that of a huge iceberg in the Antarctic. Now, the tip typically represents about ten percent of the whole iceberg; that is, when you fly over an iceberg in the Antarctic, you are actually seeing a tiny section of a huge, floating ice mountain. Think of that part, the part that sticks out of the water, as both the physical and mental aspects that make up a human being. In other words, the iceberg's tip is both the flesh that makes up the body and the decision making voice in one's head.
Now, take the iceberg's remaining ninety percent, the part that sits submerged in the ocean. This part represents an even more dynamic and amazing aspect to our being. Just as the greater mass of an iceberg is hidden while flying over, so is a greater portion of our being. You could almost think of the water's surface, where the iceberg begins to protrude out of the water and into the air, as an interface between the conscious and subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is merely another gateway that lends itself to a deeper aspect of who we are. It's like a gateway to a much larger self and, just like the tip of an iceberg, there is a lot more to our being than what lies on the surface.
After considering for a moment that our being, both physical and nonphysical, could be compared to that parc central residence ec聽 of an iceberg, we can take the analogy one step further and reference both the ocean in which the iceberg floats and atmosphere above the surface.
The physical space in which an iceberg exists here on Earth is three-dimensional. We live on a three-dimensional physical plane of existence; we also have a time dimension on this physical plane. As a result, we are considered to be on a four-dimensional plane of existence.
The analogy holds true when you consider the ocean and the open air. Ninety percent of our iceberg sits submerged in the ocean, while ten percent protrudes into open air. If you were to treat the ocean like its own complex dimension, and the open air as our four-dimensional plane, you would see that the majority of our iceberg sits in one dimension, while protruding into another. This analogy holds true for all of mankind. A human being is nothing more than a small, physical representation of a much larger and more dynamic being. And for whatever reasons deemed necessary by the powers that be, we all come here with focused awareness and intent.
To extend the iceberg analogy, let us assume that our iceberg floats over an incredibly deep trench. This trench is so deep that it appears the ocean has no bottom. Likewise, from the surface, we look up into the day's beautiful blue sky and see nothing but vast blueness, no evidence of a universe in existence, but we know it exists. Could more dimensions or parallel universes exist outside the confines of our universe and we are just too small to recognize them?
The planet Earth sits in a solar system that sits in a galaxy and the galaxy sits in a cluster of nearby galaxies and these galaxies, amongst other things, make up our universe. Suppose the universe is in a cluster of universes, and that cluster is apart of an even bigger galaxy of universes. This process could potentially go on for infinity and we would never know it because we haven't the ability perceive anything directly outside of our universe.
What if our conscience works similar to such a belief? That is, what if our conscience is spread out over many dimensions or parallel universes, and only capable of perceiving one level of awareness at a time? This level of awareness would be of course here and now on this physical earthly plane. When we die, we transition or retract into another dimension; some might call it Heaven. The result is our consciousness doing an awareness shift, leaving the physical dimension through the shedding of the physical body, a necessary physical container for one's consciousness if one is to exist on this plane.
So here we are, all metaphorical icebergs floating around in the same great ocean, parts of our beings above water, and another part submerged below the surface, separate and individual, yet connected through common composition.
The Gatekeeper Mechanism
The very mechanism that connects us to this nonphysical level of being is like a gatekeeper. This gatekeeper is the very mechanism responsible for relaying information between the conscious and subconscious mind. It is a middleman, so to speak. We do not know where it resides; perhaps it is a chemical in the brain that purposely keeps our awareness focused in the physical for the sake of completing our earthly tasks. Perhaps it's not physical at all.
The subconscious has access to the higher self, the metaphorical ninety percent floating under the ocean. The nonphysical component of our being, that is, the conscious interaction between the gatekeeping mechanism and subconscious, is what is responsible for various psi-related phenomena such as remote viewing, astral projection, premonition, intuitiveness, and many others.
It also appears to exist as a protection mechanism. Perhaps in some cases, people find themselves in direct line with upcoming catastrophic events that could prematurely separate them from this plane of existence. As a result, being that their departure is too early, information is passed along, warning of preemptive danger, perhaps in the form of a vivid dream or gut feeling. This would be a premonition, so to speak.

Indonesia was one of countries in Asia which experienced a high economic growth in early 1990's. From 1987 to 1996, growth of Indonesian GDP has reached 7.1% which accounted as the great performance over the decade. This situation was mainly influenced by the financial deregulation in early 1980s which had triggered a great expansion in capital inflow and credit growth. However, the economy continued to overheat and asset price bubbles emerged in early 1990s which also led Indonesian economy susceptible to external shocks.
In 1997, Indonesian economy experienced a huge shock due to a currency crisis which broadened to a banking, financial and general economic crisis. Actually, the origin of the crisis was not mainly caused by the lax of macroeconomic policies, instead the unwell-developed financial system like unsound banking sector. At its heart, the Indonesian crisis was a banking crisis brought on by banks which took too many foreign currency risks.
The recovery process of Indonesian economy has shown a slow pace due to a complexity of the domestic problems from 1997-2000. The political tension, for example, contributed to the uncertainty and led the recovery program did not work properly. This tension was reflected by the weakening of the rupiah, expectations of rising inflation, and parc central residence brochure聽decelerating economic activities. It appears that rising uncertainty has contributed to a slow economic recovery in Indonesia, although the momentum for recovery was in place, as indicated by a relatively high level of growth (4.8 percent) in 2000 and good progress in banking reform as well as corporate debt restructuring during the year.
The slow of the recovery process was also caused by mismanagement of economic policy in the event of crisis. In banking sector, for example, the closing of the insolvent banks has led to a run bank and caused the economy fall into a deep recession. Furthermore, a tight monetary policy that was always going to be some part of the response has also led to problems in investment and banking sector due to a high interest rate.
A gradual improvement of the recovery process has started since 2000, reflected in the stable inflation and exchange rate, reduction in the debt-to-GDP ratio and a manageable fiscal deficit in the last 5 years. Furthermore, Growth of GDP as represent of economic performance reached to 4.9% over the 6 years since 2000. In a policy side, fiscal and monetary policies have always shown a reasonably conservative. Inflation rates were low by developing country standards, budgets were reasonably controlled in most cases, and government debt levels were generally not excessive. Furthermore, these achievements also indicate to the strong commitment to sound economic policies.
However, a stable macroeconomic condition in Indonesia has not been accompanied with robust or quality economic growth because consumption remains the primary driving force in economic growth. This situation has been identified as consequence of supply side rigidities which also make monetary and fiscal policy can not be optimally used to push a higher economic growth. Furthermore, in the banking sector, an underperforming intermediation function continued to overshadow industrial performance. Consequently, economic growth in recent years was not followed by a significant reduction in unemployment and poverty and had little effect on income disparities.
Following on from this introduction, the reminder of this paper is structured as follows. The section two considers the economic performance in Indonesia from 2000-2006. The section three reveals the recent challenges to economic policy. Finally, concluding remarks are provided in the fourth section.
2. Snap-Shot of Economic Performance in Indonesia
2.1. Indonesian Economy performance 2000-2006
Indonesian economy after the crises shows a slow process of recovery due to a complexity of the domestic problems. Based on the graph below, the years to recover for Indonesia is 7 years, with average annual GDP percentage reached 4.9% from 2000-2006. However, In general, the Indonesian economy has experienced gradual improvement since 2000. The growth of GDP, for example, remained stable around 5% from 2000-2006. In 2006, the growth of GDP was mainly strengthened by the fiscal stimulus and robust export performance that mitigated the impact of weak public purchasing power. Analyzed by sector, the most vigorous growth took place in primary and services sectors. The robust performance of the two sectors in turn helped to promote more rapid recovery in economic activity in 2006.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) underwent substantial revisions when the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) took effect on January 1, 2009. The stated purpose of the ADAAA was to redress court decisions that "created an inappropriately high level of limitation necessary to obtain coverage under the ADA." The clear upshot of the ADAAA was to substantially broaden the scope of disabilities covered under the ADA, making more individuals eligible for the provision of employer-provided reasonable accommodations.
On September 23, 2009, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM), which issued proposed revisions to the ADA regulations and accompanying interpretive guidance to bring them into compliance with the ADAAA. These regulations and guidelines will be finalized shortly. Senior living communities, which rely heavily on able staff to care for residents, should be aware of the ADAAA and NPRM developments.
Defining Disability
The revised legislation provides that, in general, the definition of "disability" should be broadened to the maximum extent permitted by the terms of the ADA. The ADA defines disability as: (1) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more parc central residences floor plan聽 major life activities; (2) a record of such an impairment; or (3) being regarded as having such an impairment. The Act maintains this definition of disability, but clarifies each prong of the definition and regards each as more expansive.
The definition of "major life activity" is expanded under the Act and NPRM. The Act rejects Supreme Court precedent holding that major life activities are limited to those of "central importance to a person's life." As explained in the NPRM, major life activities are to be construed as basic activities, including major bodily functions, that most people in the general population can perform with little or no difficulty. The Act sets forth a specific non-exhaustive list of major life activities, including caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, seeing, hearing, eating, sleeping, walking, standing, lifting, bending, speaking, breathing, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, and working. The NPRM adds three additional major life activities not included in the text of the Act: reaching, interacting with others, and sitting.
The ADAAA also includes a non-exhaustive list of major bodily functions, including normal cell growth and regular functions of the immune, endocrine, digestive, neurological, circulatory, respiratory, and reproductive systems. The NPRM also adds special sense organs and skin, genitourinary, cardiovascular, hemic, lymphatic, and musculoskeletal functions to the list. The ADAAA makes clear that an impairment need only substantially limit one major life activity to be considered a disability.
Interpreting Key Phrases
The Act rejects the Supreme Court's holding in Toyota Motor Mfg., Kentucky Inc. v. Williams, which held that the phrase "substantially limits" should be strictly construed, and that a disability must severely restrict or prevent the individual from doing activities that are of central importance to most people's lives. The Act also rejects the regulations promulgated by the EEOC that define "substantially limits" as "significantly restricted." Specifically, the ADAAA says the EEOC's definition of "substantially limits" is "inconsistent with congressional intent, by expressing too high a standard."
In response to this, the NPRM removes the factors that are currently considered in determining whether an impairment is "substantially limiting"- specifically, the nature, severity, and duration of the impairment and the permanent or long-term impact of the condition. Instead, the NPRM proposes several rules of construction, including: The focus should be on whether discrimination occurred rather than whether the individual meets the definition of disability; the individual does not have to demonstrate the limitation is in an activity of "central importance to daily life"; and the term "substantially limits" should not require extensive analysis.
The NPRM provides that an impairment is a disability if it substantially limits an individual's ability to perform a major life activity as compared to "most people in the general population," as opposed to the prior standard, which focused on "an average person in the general population."
And finally, under the ADAAA and echoed by the NPRM, a determination of whether an individual is substantially limited in a major life activity shall be made without regard to mitigating measures. With the exception of common eyeglasses and contact lenses, the ADAAA prohibits the consideration of measures such as medication, medical supplies, equipment, prosthetic devices, hearing aids, mobility devices, and others when determining whether an employee is substantially limited in a major life activity.

In quiet pockets of earth there are peoples of many nationalities and ethnic and language groups who are finding ways to live together, each respecting the rights of the other while feeling they may continue, at least in the sanctity of their own home, their ability to live their lives as they have been brought up to feel comfortable with. And that is the central issue to us all, really: if we grew up a baby bushman in darkest Africa we still have the same inner needs and ability to become a worthy and respected member of our own community, and beyond. Some do.
Some live out peaceful, loving, useful lives. Some few do not. We try to separate the evil from the larger social unit and especially that influence on our youth, who we always believe can learn our best messages, and then advance from there. If you have any daughters, you will notice how, in their opinion, they passed you long ago up the evolutionary pole. That has been the ideal behind America, and the New world following the welcoming model set by America. This is new America to the world, really. And scientific studies shows what works best. Welcome at the child level most of all.
For example, here is the inspiring story of cooperation by ethnic groups who are living in harmony and have found themselves creating a new west coast community. Richmond, the island city near Vancouver in Canada and Seattle in America, where many other good parc central residences pdf聽 news of peoples living in harmony is happening. Much of the west coast of North America finds it's previous Anglo city population is now many cultures.
In particular Richmond, which had for decades a large population of those from Japan and still has curio shops of artifacts from Japan, now more likely are peoples from China, with their curio shops. You can now buy a Buddha as known in Japan, or in China, both very different. In America they still come from everywhere, in Canada new residents are mostly from east Asia, more than half from China, also Taiwan, Hong Kong and India.
Now more than half the population of Richmond were born outside Canada: in fact of the 173,600 residents in 2006, 57.4 percent were foreign born. And the racial harmony has been remarkable in this city with the highest foreign born population in Canada. How this could happen is the happy harmony after decades of guilt, misplaced and eventual accepting of each new wave of ethnics mixing with the English speaking local people of Canada.
Locals can recall losing playmates whose parents were from Japan but who had been born here; feeling hurt and anger as they saw them being trucked away, their homes and fishing boats sold at discount prices; this happened in Canada in tandem with American panic felt on both Pacific coastal cities after Pearl Harbor. Few citizens of Canada who were originally from Japan returned to their previous homes after the war. The new waves began in earnest before the takeover of Hong Kong when many Chinese arrived, and this has continued from China and southeast Asia.
Each new wave has tried to fit in with the existing society; even in rare cases where several shops in several malls placed only Chinese or other ethnic ads in their windows, causing discussion at city hall. No bylaw was necessary, after delegations reminded the merchants they were turning away potential customers. The signs are now all clearly in Chinese, Hindi, whatever plus English.
This uplifting story of peoples of various ethnic backgrounds learning to live with each other and their strange smells, habits, customs, sounds, religious peculiarities-such as our Christmas- is encouraging to us all. The city of Richmond has a low violent crime rate, a fraction of any comparable American city. It has taken many meetings between differing groups to finds ways to live quite differently, and in a lovely island city by the sea, with the grand mountains as backdrop. I live also in a city surrounded by water with a view of mountains, lovely Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, 50 miles by seagull or ferry from Richmond.
Chinese legend is that to live at such a place is Heaven on Earth; all seem to try to behave accordingly, are excellent new citizens. I experienced an example of the new Canada, hopefully the new world while waiting recently at a mall escalator: ahead of me was an young Chinese Canadian lad with an elderly Chinese woman, obviously nervous about stepping on the escalator. She excitedly spoke loudly in Chinese, and I presumed she was asking the boy to help get her hand on the escalator hand hold.
The young lad quickly looked back at me, an old white guy in a navy blazer, and he quickly said "speak English, grandma". And grandma shouted at him in English, "speak English, speak English. You no good little Chinese boy any more. You little Canadian boy", and muttered to herself in Mandarin, turning from him. His reply told me how the world should evolve when he responded, "Well, yeah, grandma. We live in Canada".

When it comes to selling your condo, it is always a good idea to enlist in the help of a Realtor. With the help of a Realtor, you will be able to reach a broader number of potential buyers and the Realtor can help to make sure all of the paperwork is in proper order for the sale to be complete. Whether you use a Realtor or attempt to sell your condo on your own, however, there are a few steps you should take.
Make Lists
The first step you should take when trying to sell your condo is to make a list of everything your condo has to offer. What separates your condo from other condos that are on the market? What makes your condo special? What amenities does your condo have to offer to its residents? Make a list of everything that residency in the condo building has to offer as well as your specific unit and be certain to share this information with the Realtor if you choose to work with one.
In addition the amenities of the condo building and your unit, consider the location of your condo as well. For example, if your condo listed near to public transportation, is centrally located within a city, is close to a business district, or is near to great shopping and restaurants, you want to be certain to advertise this information as well.
Start Advertising
If you are going to attempt to sell parc central residences pdf聽 your condo on your own, you will need to start taking steps to market your condo on your own. To do this, create ads on 3 by 5 cards that highlight the best features your condo has to offer. Then, get permission to post these in office complexes, transit stations, and anywhere else where you might be able to reach potential buyers. You should also try to consider catchy phrases that will help draw attention to your ads, such as "Walk to Work" or "Minutes from Public Transportation."
If you are utilizing the services of a Realtor, he or she will work on the marketing aspect for you. Although you can attempt to do this on your own, handing the job over to a Realtor will make your life far easier. In addition, since a Realtor has a great deal of experience in this area, he or she will likely be able to create more effective marketing methods and will be able to reach a larger number of potential buyers.
Network
Since you have decided to sell the condo, you can start to spread the word among your neighbors, friends, and family. Even if you have a Realtor helping you out throughout the process, you can still help with spreading the word. In addition, residents of condos often have friends that are interested in moving into the building. Therefore, letting those around you know that you are interested in selling can go a long way toward getting your condo sold in a short period of time at the price you are asking for.
Keep in mind that selling a condo is about more than selling a place to live - it is also about selling a lifestyle. Therefore, you should be certain to target those that would be most interested in owning property without dealing with the headaches of maintaining a yard or other problems that are commonly associated with home ownership.

When you talk about Del Valle, TX. most people think of southeast Austin where the Airport (ABIA) is. Residents in the area consider it an area that includes most of Southeast Travis County including, Garfield, Mustang Ridge, Creedmoor, Pilot Knob, east to William Cannon and parts of Montopolis. DVISD crosses the river to Hornsby Bend, and east to Garfield, and the Bastrop County line on highway 71 and FM 812. Del Valle is a large rural area (where generations of families have lived and continue to live) that encompasses more than just where the Airport is on Hwy. 71.
This area of Southeast Travis County is flatland with some small hills, which was mainly used for farming and cattle grazing. Many small older communities dot the area and are now blending in with newer subdivisions. Most people never realize that you can have a beautiful, unobstructed view in all directions from some of these hilltops including views of the Austin skyline with the hill country in the background. Like many Central Texas communities Del Valle and the surrounding area is growing at a rapid rate. The expansion of SH 130 and the realization of Del Valle's close proximity to downtown Austin and ABIA is having an enormous impact on immediate and future growth projections.
The growth of far south Austin including the opening of Southpark Meadows at Slaughter Lane and I-35 (one of the first of this magnitude) that has been built along the I-35 corridor is a huge factor because it has brought more employment opportunities, restaurants, entertainment and shopping closer to all of the long time residents' and newer communities being built in Del Valle and Southeast Travis County. Many new mixed-use parc central residences pdf聽 projects are being planned and proposed in this area including a project on 2500 acres west of the Texas 130 toll road near McKinney Falls Parkway that includes homes, businesses and shopping. Prices for homes in subdivisions are still reasonable for the area and growth rate, but speculation about future growth has caused land prices to skyrocket, especially along the major arteries ( Hwy's. 183,71,130) including FM 812 and FM 1327 Del Valle is not an incorporated city so building and development fall under Travis County and the City of Austin guidelines.
Most people don't know about McKinney Falls State Park, with picnicking and camping facilities, Onion Creek and miles of wooded walking and bicycle trails, a wonderful place for a day trip or overnight camping, located here off highway 183 just a few minutes from downtown Austin. Southeast Metro Park is a large facility with hiking and biking trails, numerous baseball, adult softball and soccer fields, located on highway 71 just a few minutes east of Austin. A few miles farther is Bastrop, which has Lake Bastrop and Bastrop State Park. These are all only a few minutes away from Del Valle.
Builders such as Main Street Homes, KB Homes, Centex Homes and Lennar are a few that have been building communities here in the last few years. Some of these communities like Los Cielos, Berdoll Farms, The Meadows at Berdoll, and The Vistas at Stoney Ridge are expanding and have a few new homes left for sale, while the other communities are selling out at an amazing rate. Families are moving in as soon as the homes are built.
Employment for most Del Valle area residents' means a commute to the Austin Metro area via Highways 71 or 183. SH 130 will give easier access across town to the northern part of Austin and Round Rock avoiding Mopac, Loop 360 and I-35.
The Del Valle ISD covers an area from FM 969 to FM 1327 north to south, and the Bastrop County line and part of the Montopolis area in Austin, east to west. To try and keep up with the rapid growth and the future growth projections the Del Valle ISD voters recently passed a bond referendum for 105,800,000. The package included, an Elementary School bringing the total to (8), a new Middle School (3), expansion and site infrastructure at Del Valle High School (1) and a new Opportunity Center. That will bring the total number to 13 schools in the area.
This package also includes acquisitions and infrastructure development for these new schools and there will be district-wide security, technology, accessibility, and energy management.

They say that Mexicans really know how to party. Here in Oaxaca we do it in spades, because it's part of a longstanding cultural tradition. Also because it's affordable, certainly relative to what it would cost in the US or Canada. What you would love to do at home but can't because it would cost $50,000, or more, you can do here in Oaxaca for $10,000, or less, with a large glossy photo album of memories to boot.
First of all, both you and your partner must be passionate about the city, its people, and its institutions, and willing to experience all that Oaxacan custom has to offer for your next big celebratory rite of passage. Then once you're convinced that at least some of your closest hometown kin and friends would be interested in making the trek and participating in the festivities, you're Oaxaca-bound. Even better if you have friends and family scattered throughout the continent and further abroad who would be willing to gather together in Oaxaca, making the celebration a reunion of sorts, 谩 la The Big Chill (albeit different circumstances). A couple of years ago a few celebrants stayed with us, part of a wedding party for a bride and groom in the entertainment industry. Actors, singers, musicians and producers came from all corners of the globe, and shared many magical moments with the couple in a storybook setting just outside of the city.
For our part, over the past ten years, first as frequent visitors to, and now as residents of the city, we've thrown three such large fiestas, each in a totally different setting: a downtown banquet hall noted for its revolutionary period d茅cor; a former hacienda with expansive, parc central residences pdf聽immaculately groomed grounds and gardens, and; a rural venue in which a rodeo performance (with our daughter a participant) was part of the merriment. Of course there are other more familiar options such as hotel ballrooms, and restaurants serving up the best that this mecca of culinary seduction has to offer.
But it's the pageantry and the availability of a broad diversity of offerings which make such an event extraordinary ... and you can have it all: a colorful folkloric troupe performing a guelaguetza to live music; an eight-piece dance band playing to both modern and traditional tastes, in addition to mariachis, marimbas and Andes-music-style troubadours; table arrangements of the most exotic of tropical flowers; a unique array of adornments for the hall; other regional customs geared to your particular celebration; and the list continues. A well-orchestrated evening (or daytime fiesta stretching well into the night) will include ceremonial song and dance, and episodic events indicative of local mores peppering the affair, so as to maintain both rhythm and ritual for seven to twelve hours.
But not to fret the meal ending without there being further indulging of gastronomic proportion for the duration: the Oaxacan tradition is to not terminate a function without offering a second entirely different meal well after cake and cognac have been consumed, making for a feast of truly bacchanalian proportion.
Meal options range from the high end continental genre, to traditional Oaxacan fare, to the ever-so-customary barbacoa --- goat or sheep with all the trimmings prepared in an in-ground oven, with its own peculiar pomp and ceremony ... and everything else in between. Usually tamales, chilaquiles or pozole make up that late-night after dinner pick-me-up, once your dance legs have begun to wane. Not to be overlooked, there is no shortage of readily available quality wines and champagnes, scotches and other hard liquors, apertifs, and of course Mexico's renowned beer, mezcal and tequila.
And after all is done, you don't even have to worry about entertaining your guests for the balance of their trip. There are several small tour companies and individual guides in the city, with vans accommodating up to 15 passengers, thereby enabling your vacationers, perhaps in groups based on particular interests, to select from several routes in the central valleys just outside of the city, so they can visit the craft villages, towns on their market days, ruins and other sites. And of course the downtown core with its colonial churches, museums, galleries and shops will hold the attention of every class of tourist for at least three additional days. You can even consider printing up a few downtown walking tours to distribute to each attendee.

I was about to finish my shift at the hospital, at the intensive care unit. While I was talking to Doctor Diego Lalinde, head of our service, we noticed on the central monitoring system that the patient on cubicle three was going into cardiac arrest. I run instinctively to initiate resuscitation, when the boss said -- That woman is in a bad condition. We have instructions no to reanimate. We should let her go peacefully. -- I stopped with a feeling of impotence. I nodded and approached the dying woman.
All of a sudden, I felt a very strong impulse to do something and told the boss -- Not in my shift! --. He knew what I was going to do. He rolled his eyes and said - OK Luis, let us give it a try, then- He is the kind of doctor you know you can trust. However, something in my chest was pushing me into action.
With the help of one of the medical residents, we started resuscitation maneuvers. During those moments, I can hardly describe what happens to me. So many years of being part of reanimation teams, and I still feel like everything goes in another dimension. I have this strong sensation of reality moving in slow motion.
They stood by the bed while I began giving her cardiac massage. A nurse brought the CPR cart (A small-wheeled cart containing everything needed to provide resuscitation). Giovanni, the resident, was ready with the defibrillator pads. (A defibrillator is a biomedical piece of equipment that allows giving a controlled electrical discharge on the patient's chest, in order to take the heart out of its state of arrest). We were injecting medications into her bloodstream in a frantic race against death. parc central residences pdf聽 Chest massage, defibrillator strokes, chest massage again... Sixteen long minutes after, a familiar beep came from the monitor. Her heart started beating and did so for a couple minutes, and stopped again. We insisted, and some time later the patient was breathing again, her heart was working, it was very weak, but she was alive.
--Lucho, (my nickname) check her reflexes -- Doctor Lalinde asked me. I took my little flashlight, pointed it at her eyes and fortunately her pupils shrunk, which is an indication that there is no brain damage. I sighed in relief. We knew that her heart could stop again in a matter of hours, maybe minutes. She was in a terrible condition. -- We might not be able to bring her back again -- I thought. I stayed by her side for a while. She gained consciousness and looked at me. Since she had a tube in her throat and was connected to a ventilator, she could not speak. However, she looked at me with insistence and looked agitated.
I spoke to her in an attempt to help her calm down. She nodded to everything I said. She was a woman in her mid sixties. I had seen her children during their visits and had been talking to them. They were a very poor family, who lived in a town a few hours away from the city. My conversations with them started to replay in my mind. They had been expecting the outcome for days. They were very sad for their sister, who was the "black sheep" of the family. She had disappeared a couple years before.
The phone ringing pulled me out of my thoughts. One of the nurses called me - Doctor Gaviria, there is someone asking for information on a patient. I think you should take this. - - Of course - I said. I picked up the phone and heard a female voice, with a heavy country accent, asking about her mother, who was a patient at our ICU. I asked the name of the patient and she said with her voice cracking. -- Her name is Virgelina and she is in cubicle three --. Her mother was the patient we were reanimating! I told her what had been happening and she broke down in tears when she told me that her lost sister had showed up and was with her now.
--I suggest you come here as soon as possible -- I told her. -- I will wait for you. --
They arrived some forty minutes later. They were two young women, poorly dressed. Both in tears walked leaning on each other. I greeted them and then spoke to them so they would be a little more prepared for what they were going to encounter. Afterwards, I walked in with them to see their mother.
Virgelina's eyes illuminated when she saw her daughters coming. The newfound girl took the hand of her mother and began to cry. She asked for forgiveness repeatedly. The mother looked at her wisely, and nodded, like saying "Yes my dear, I forgive you".
A few minutes later, the monitor alarm went off again. Her heart had stopped working. Moreover, this time was for good.
The two girls hugged each other and the body of their dead mother. The rest of the family started to arrive. You could hear the sounds of desperation and sadness... Weeping, sobbing...
After a little while, I invited the family to the transition room (We do not like to send family members to a morgue to claim their loved ones). One of the nurses began the disconnection process. Later on, someone came to pick up the body and take it to the family. After this, everything was in silence. Something subtle was going on. There was a great feeling of peace in the ICU.
Diego looked at me and said -- Lucho, now I understand why you were so desperate to reanimate.-- I just did not know what to answer.
How do these things come to happen? I do not know. Maybe my impulse to reanimate the woman coincided with the arrival of the daughters. Perhaps there is some sort of order that goes well beyond my understanding. All I know is that, at least in my case, medicine and everything that surrounds it has always been an endless source of amazement, learning and questioning. All I know is that I did what I should have done that night. That we all, Diego, the nurses, the resident doctor and myself, were witnesses of a wonderful happening. When I remember this passage, I have the feeling that in this Universe there is someone behind the wheel. My background is in the sciences. My training invites me to regard everything from the rigor of observation and evidence. Nevertheless, these stories shake my structures and lead me to believe in something. Some people call it the wisdom of the Universe, others call the Great Architect, and others might call it The Source.

Oslo is many things to the backpacker: an attractive city, it's full of galleries (like the Astrup Fearnley Museum), museums (in the form of the fascinating Emanuel Vigeland Museum) grand historical monuments (like the impressive Akershus Castle & Fortress) and a stunning botanical garden.
It's not, however, a particularly cheap city... Which makes it all the fortunate that there your average youth hostel in Oslo, is a lively, reasonably priced solution to the eternal problem of budget accommodation.
