Week 14 Reflection...NUFF SAID
The Fourth Kind (what we called our group) originally started off with great ideas and motivation, we were given a fairly difficult genre to work with, especially since none of us had prior filming/editing skills. Our four words were Sci fi (genre), Confucius (philosopher), Bridge (metaphor) and Synchronicity. SO we got to brainstorming… mostly Mitch and myself had the storyline ideas, with Alex throwing in some wild, outrageous ones, which were fun but not practical at all. Mitch’s idea turned out to be the favourite with two fridges teleporting between each other and I was nominated writer as I had plenty of ideas on how to bring the story to life. So I wrote and I wrote, and I refined, and wrote some more, it felt like I was constantly tweaking the story until we finally got it close enough to finished and began to film. Filming took place on a Monday at my house, both Mitch and myself had to have numerous outfits prepared as we were the main actors and the storyline is supposed to be spread across days and weeks. Simone helped to direct what we were up to and what props were to be placed where, even though the story was much more familiar to me, the stress and anxiety of being filmed seemed to throw off my memory, so I was glad Simone was there to keep me on track. Alex was fairly distracting, making jokes and being immature, but I’m sure that’s because he didn’t really have anything to do, nor did he try to have a role. It took hours to finally finish filming the film, it didn’t help that the go pro’s battery died about half way into my scenes. Using a go pro was also a set back as we couldn’t just rewatch a scene once it was filmed, it would then have to be uploaded on to the computer before anyone could watch it so it was easier to do all of the filming before connecting it up. Also the lens is a fish eye, giving it an unusual effect. I think filming from inside a fridge is unusual enough without the fisheye but it’s all we had to work with! Once we had uploaded the film we realised we had 3 hours to sift through with most of the footage black from when the fridge door was shut, the boys took over with this, and edited it as much as they could before presenting in week 9. Our feedback, was almost expected, I knew there were legibility issues with the post it notes and also trying to maintain an understanding of what was going on. We took all feedback on board and discussed whether we should refilm, re-edit or rethink our main storyline to make it easier to understand, we decided to re-edit as we had a clear idea of how to make it legible. So Mitch kind of took over this, Alex was also nominated as editor but failed to even turn up to most classes and still had the nerve to complain about his workload. Mitch then accidently restored his computer and lost all progress he’d made. By this stage, Simone and myself were getting worried, as we’d both stuck to our roles and done our fair share of work, Mitch had as well but the computer just set us back a fair bit. We all decided it was time to confront Alex, and we did, it wasn’t too smooth but he seemed to get the idea, and started helping Mitch with the editing. Mitch then had an unfortunate event occur over the weekend and was unable to assist us at all…. Alex then had to take over editing. So far we’ve had a really rocky journey, it’s been pretty stressful. But all the hard work pays off, maybe not always in quality of the work, but a sense of fulfilment makes it all worthwhile. Its currently Tuesday night, the day before everything’s due, Alex is supposed to have all editing complete and Simone’s just discovered he hasn’t used royalty free music or sized the film correctly! I hate to rant, but it’s been a constant battle and feels like we’re cleaning up after a child constantly. Alex is a good worker if it’s his priority and I just don’t believe this assignment has been at all. Apart from that I enjoyed working with Simone and Mitch they’re both self-motivated, and full of great ideas and solutions. We worked well together.

Week 14 Reflection
I'm starting to realise how inexperienced i really am with sci fi, havnt seen any movies this year in that genre, let alone any the year before. :/ I realise it was a group effort settling on storyline, but I feel really bad now, Our's isnt prominently a sci fi, it just has an element of it mixed up in the rest..

Humans love to hear about ancient history, but they aren't always that great at preserving it. Here are some of the worst, most thoughtless, and just plain dumbest ways that humans have wrecked their own heritage.

Week 13 Reflection
After looking into after effects tutorials it lead to sci fi reviews and looking into films, dont ask how!! But yeh I love sci fi but for entertainment, i have no experience in it really. Even though i intend to study Astronomy after this course... when making our film, I'm probably the best at story writing but the least experienced in sci fi elements... oh well.

There was a time when people thought science fiction (and fantasy) required over-the-top acting and scenery-chewing. Many actors didn't entirely take these roles seriously. That time is past. But which actor, in particular, has done the most to improve the credibility of genre film and television?
Importance of actors, I am no actor,  I'm actually really shy too, filming our movie was quite a challenge and im happy to see that over haha

The rebirth metaphors were strong in Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. But did you catch all of the little hints the director slipped into the end? We spoke with the director about the deeper meaning behind his space movie's powerful ending. Here are his thoughts. Big time spoilers ahead:

Week 13 Reflection
Been a hard week of arts n crafts.... lots of papercuts, glue stuck to my clothes, made a mess of the kitchen table again and endless searching for the right items, I am really happy with how it turned out, i wanted it to have the homemade feel, so its more personalised. Straight out of a homemade film ;)
