It has been six months since Israel launched its brutal offensive on Palestine’s Gaza, killing more than 33,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — and driving nearly 2 million more from their homes, in what humanitarian agencies have called a “betrayal of humanity.”
As Israeli troops withdraw from Khan Younis to prepare for a military offensive on Rafah, the last remaining safe haven for those who were forced out from their homes, the people of Gaza brace for a projected famine that could see as many as 70% of Gaza's population facing catastrophic conditions in the next 4 months.
As always, please remember that the Palestinian resistance took hostages on Oct 7th in order to free thousands of people like Nasser Awartani from Israeli prisons
Palestinian Reuters photographer Mohammed Salem won this year's prestigious World Press Photo of the Year award with a depiction of loss and sorrow in Palestine's Gaza a heart-wrenching photo of a Palestinian woman cradling the dead body of her young niece.
The photograph, captured on October 17, 2023, at Nasser Hospital, shows 36-year-old Inas Abu Maamar sobbing while holding five-year-old Saly, who was killed along with her mother and sister when an Israeli missile struck their home.
Salem described his photograph as a "powerful and sad moment that sums up the broader sense of what was happening in the Gaza Strip."
"Mohammed received the news of his WPP award with humility, saying that this is not a photo to celebrate," said Reuters' Global Editor for Pictures and Video, Rickey Rogers, at a ceremony in Amsterdam, "but that he appreciates its recognition and the opportunity to publish it to a wider audience."
"He hopes with this award that the world will become even more conscious of the human impact of war, especially on children."
This is not the first time 39-year-old Salem has been recognised for his work on Israeli attacks on Palestine. He received a World Press Photo award more than a decade ago for another depiction of the human toll of conflict in the besieged enclave.
This was published yesterday, which is the same day Israel had struck a school, a mosque, a marketplace, multiple residential areas, some within refugee camps, killing over 60 Palestinians. This was posted one day after Israel had assassinated 3 sons of Hamas leader Hanyeh and killed four of their children in the same attack.
So by "low intensity" do they mean ~100 Palestinians killed a day? How do I tell you that even 1 Palestinian killed is one too many and that, if this so called low intensity scale of killing continues for just 10 days, we will have ~1000 Palestinians killed by the end of it?
It's sickening to see how the continuous killing and genocide has been normalised with language that is so dehumanising. Not only are people not shying away from stating that they do not view Palestinian lives to be as equal as other lives, they're also publishing articles about it.
This is why it’s necessary to shut down weapons manufacturers and airports and governments. THIS IS WHY. The world cannot continue like this. Israel cannot exist. This needs to end NOW. Not just a ceasefire. There is NO redemption. There is no coming back from this. It’s free all of Palestine. All of it.
409 bodies have been recovered last I heard and the search is not over yet. You can read the horrific accounts of what Israel did to Al Shifa Hospital in this Mondoweiss article
You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.
PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸
I regret to inform you that Discord's new Terms of Service includes an arbitration clause. You can find it here https://discord.com/terms/#16. This clause includes an opt-out, which I have transcribed here:
You can decline this agreement to arbitrate by emailing an opt-out notice to [email protected] within 30 days of April 15, 2024 or when you first register your Discord account, whichever is later; otherwise, you shall be bound to arbitrate disputes in accordance with the terms of these paragraphs. If you opt out of these arbitration provisions, Discord also will not be bound by them.
These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )
